The new models are confi gured ready to print, copy and

scan in full colour. Fax is an option. Immaculate 1200

dpi colour / mono output is delivered at speeds of 30,

35, 45 and 55 pages a minute. The MFPs can be tailored

to meet customer specifi c needs with the addition of

modular handling options and feature upgrades.

The new MFPs look strikingly diff erent from their

predecessors and off er signifi cantly enhanced

functionality. The tilting colour touch-screen display

simplifi es operation. Ricoh’s new I-Style design is

contemporary and stylish. Operational areas - the

functional parts of the MFP - such as the operation

panel and delivery area are emphasised in dark grey.

Intelligent workfl ow features - facilitated by introduction

of new controller architecture - include the ability to

customise the control panel, run embedded workfl ow

solutions, preview and print from USB/SD memory, add

mandatory security information to printed documents

and create digitally signed PDF archive copies.

expanding the colour gamut. New fusing technology

shortens warmup / recovery time, reducing total energy

consumption (TEC) and minimising carbon emissions.

Suitable for use in secure environments, the new

models ship with an integrated high capacity document

server and utilise Ricoh’s Data Overwrite Security and

HDD Encryption to safeguard document security. The

new models will undergo Common Criteria Certifi cation

testing and are designed to meet IEEE2600.1, the

highest level of common criteria certifi cation.

strikingly diff erent from their predecessors, utilise new toner and incorporate Ricoh’s latest controller architecture.

The products are more secure, easier to use and produce print of superior quality. New features which streamline

document processes and safeguard security include include the ability to customise the control panel, run

embedded workfl ow solutions, add mandatory security information to printed documents and create digitally signed

PDF archive copies. The new features are described below:

Workfl ow

I-Style Design

Ricoh’s I-Style design concept is both eye-catching

and eff ective. A tilting colour touch-screen display - the

centrepiece of the MFP - simplifi es operation. The

white and dark grey colour scheme has a stylish and

contemporary appearance. Operational areas, such as

the operation panel and delivery area, are emphasised

in grey.

One-Click Drivers

The functionality of RPCS, Ricoh’s easy-to-use single-

click icon-based print driver, popular with users, has

been incorporated into the standard PCL driver. The

PCL driver and optional PostScript driver feature

graphic icons which allow single click selection of

complex settings such as duplex printing, booklet

pagination, stapling and folding.

Scheduled Print

The Scheduled Print feature enables users to specify

a time at which documents will be printed. Using this

feature, it is possible to schedule time consuming

jobs such as invoices, statements and reports to run

overnight or at the weekend, when they are less likely to

inconvenience other users. The time is specifi ed within

the print driver.

Layout and Booklet Printing (support for Mac OS)

Layout and booklet printing is supported in Mac 0S and

Windows environments. Using this feature it’s possible

to save paper by presenting large documents such as

multi-slide PowerPoint presentations in a compact

booklet format. Multiple pages are automatically tiled

and paginated by the MFP and printed ‘N-up’ (2 in 1 or

4 in 1) in booklet format.

Accessibility

Using Accessibility Features

The new MFPs are designed to be used by wheelchair

bound operators and operators with visual impairment.

The touch-screen panel has large brightly lit icons

and can be tilted for easy viewing. Printer drivers are

compatible with screen reader technology. The Colour

Barrier-Free Management feature, selected via the

printer driver, enhances colours so that they are more

easily distinguished by people with colour weaknesses.

Paper trays can be opened and toner replenished with

one hand. By installing a single deck paper feed unit,

the operating height of the machine can be reduced.

The scanner unit of AD models can be desk mounted to

improve access for chair bound operatives by installing

the Scanner Accessibility option. The scanner unit of

SPDF models cannot be desk mounted but ADF Handle

option can be attached which makes it easier for chair

bound operatives to open and close the scanner unit of

SPDF models.

Customisable Home Screen

The home screen of the MFP can be customised. A

corporate logo can be inserted at the upper right corner

of the screen and the desktop customised to include

preferred function icons. Individual users can also

create their own personal home screens* to include a

programme shortcut which automates a frequently used

operation.

MFP Web Browser (option)

Using the optional MFP Web Browser*, users can

browse external websites and print out the displayed

page directly from the operational panel of the MFP.

Webpage addresses can be registered as bookmark

icons on home screen. Using this feature, users can

print Google maps, e- tickets and coupons without

needing to access a PC/Mac.

It should be noted that this feature does have some

limitations. Because of the way they are compiled, some

web pages cannot be displayed within the web browser

and web pages consisting of multiple frames cannot be

printed. Unfortunately it is not possible to ascertain in

advance which web pages are supported and which are

not.

Print from USB/SD

The new MFPs are equipped with a USB/SD card

reader. Located to the side of the operation panel, the

card reader is easily accessible. Particularly useful in

walk up environments, the card reader

documents and JPEG / TIFF

be previewed in

colour on the MFPs

AirPrint Support*

AirPrint Support enables users to print directly from

i0S 4.2 supported devices such as iPhone and iPad

to the new MFPs. In wireless mode, iOS devices will

automatically locate supported devices. E-mails,

photographs, web pages and other documents are

easily printed without need to download print drivers or

make a physical connection with the device.

Governance

Quota Scheduling

Quota Setting allows the administrator to limit the

output of individual users and user groups. By setting

page count and user count limits, the administrator is

able to control the print environment and reduce cost.

A new Scheduling feature enables the administrator to

set the point at which individual users and group print

quotas are reset.

Banner Page Print

Using the new Banner Page print feature, a job sheet

is printed at the start of the print job identifying the

originator. This feature makes it easier to identify work

in a busy environment, reducing the risk of work being

mislaid or duplicated. The Banner Page includes the

originators username, the date and time of printing, the

originating computer’s hostname and a job name.

Mandatory Hold Print

When Mandatory Hold Print is activated by the

administrator all print output is held in the document

server until released by the originator. This feature

safeguards security and reduces waste. With the

originator collecting print upon release confi dential

information isn’t left sitting in output trays. Work that is

no longer required can be deleted without printing.

Quality

Wider Colour Gamut

The introduction of a new composition toner ensures


consistently produce best in class image quality. The

colour gamut (range of colours) has been expanded by

approximately 10%. The new toner also improves the

rendition of high density images.

Improved Grey Reproduction

Using the PCL 6 driver, users can choose whether grey

text, images and graphics in a colour document are

printed using composite colours (cyan, magenta and

yellow toner) or using black toner. Using black toner

for grey text, images and graphics can result in better

image quality as the print does not have a colour caste.

Envelope Printing

Envelopes can be printed onto without them wrinkling

or distorting. The new fusing system uses a straight

paper path. Envelopes are fused fl at without uneven

pressure from a pressing roller which might otherwise

cause the envelope layers to separate and distort. Using

the new MFPs, envelopes can be fed more reliably and

printed in better quality.

Administration

Preference Settings Import / Export

Users can output preference settings such as System

Settings, Application Settings and program shortcuts

to an SD card or local folder on a client PC using

WebImageMonitor. These settings can then be applied

to other supported Afi cio MFP. This feature simplifi es

setup as the administrator can quickly apply the same

settings to multiple devices.

Auto Job Promotion

This feature can reduce downtime associated with

paper size mismatch and other print errors. With Auto

Job Promotion enabled, the new MFP’s will print jobs

that can be executed immediately over jobs that would

otherwise cause the print queue to stall. Skipped jobs

can be reprinted from the operational panel or Web

Image Monitor once the error has been resolved.

QWERTZ Keyboard

The default soft keyboard setting for Afi cio MP

C3002/3502/4502/5502 is QWERTY (English language

layout). German speaking customers can easily switch

the default soft keyboard settings to QWERTZ (German

speaking layout). Other European languages including

Greek are also supported.

External USB Keyboard Support

A Windows OS compatible external USB keyboard can

be attached and used in place of the soft keyboard.

The external USB keyboard connects to the USB port

on the operation panel or the USB port on the back

of the controller board. This feature will be useful to

customers using the new MFPs to scan and index

documents for EDM.

TCO and Environment

Advanced Fusing System

A new fusing the system reduces the energy used in

the fusing process. The new fusing unit does not have

fusing roller, utilising a thin fusing belt around the

heater instead. Since the fusing belt is much thinner

than the roller, less electricity is used to heat the belt,

shortening the warmup and recovery time and reducing

TEC (total energy consumption).

Low Melt Toner

Ricoh’s new toner improves image quality and reduces

energy consumption. The new toner has a lower melt

temperature, requiring less heat to be used in the fusing

process. Working in conjunction with the new fusing

system (described above), the low melt toner helps

contribute to a best-in-class TEC rating.

Eco-Information Screen

The eco-information screen encourages sustainable

behaviour by bringing green metrics directly to the

attention of users. A pop-up on the operation panel

advises the total number of pages printed by each

user and shows any reduction they have made in

paper consumption through use of duplex and N-up

printing. The pop-up has a free-type area in which the

administrator can promote a corporate environmental

message.

Remote Fax

Using the Remote Fax function, users can send

or receive fax documents via an Afi cio MP

C3002/3502/4502/5502SP which is not confi gured

with a fax option by sharing the fax option attached

to another Afi co MFP on the same network. This

feature saves money by reducing the initial investment

for fax options and eliminating the running costs of

maintaining multiple fax lines.

Security

Mandatory Security Information

The Mandatory Security Information feature enforces

document security by automatically appending security

information to every document produced. The security

information added to documents includes the name or

user ID of the originator, the date and time the job was

printed, the IP address of originating computer and the

serial number of the MFP on which the job was printed.

Output Switch Timer for Fax

To reduce the risk that inbound fax messages are

left sitting in a catch tray where they may be read by

unauthorised personnel or inadvertently picked up

along with other documents, the administrator can set

a time schedule for fax output. Inbound fax messages

received overnight or at the weekend can be held in

memory and automatically printed at a predetermined

time.

Unauthorised Copy Control

This feature enhances document security by preventing

unauthorised copying of confi dential documents. A

text pattern, such as ‘No Copying’ is embedded as a

watermark on the original document. The watermark is

repeated on subsequent copies making them diffi cult to

read. Ricoh MFPs equipped with the Copy Data Security

option recognise the watermark and grey out the copy.

Additional User Codes

To answer the needs of large organisations, the number

of unique user codes has been increased from 500 to

1000.

Compliance

PDF/A and Digitally Signed PDF

PDF/A is a fi le format and an ISO standard for the long-

term archiving of electronic documents. The format

locks the document to maintain its originality and

records within the document a ‘Device Certifi cate’ which

identifi es the scanning device. Digitally signed PDFs

are a regulatory standard for electronic invoicing and a

preferred compliance standard for electronic document

management.

Enhanced Encryption Level

Another new feature enables the user to select more

secure encryption algorithms when encrypting

documents saved to PDF. Government and industry

compliance regulations may require the customer to

adopt one or other enhanced encryption level. The

supported algorithms include AES256bit (used by the

US government, NESSSIE in EU and CRYPTREC in

Japan) and SHA-2 (used by the US National Security

Agency).

Bates Numbering

Bates numbering is used in the legal, medical and

fi nancial markets to place identifying numbers on

documents as they are scanned or processed. Afi cio MP

C3002/3502/4502/5502SP enable Bates numbering

to be applied as a stamp by selecting it in the copier/

document server menu. The feature saves time by

automating the numbering process.

Growing Market

Sales of mid volume colour machines are growing. In

2010, customers in Western Europe purchased more

than 560,000 mid volume colour machines (30 to

59 ppm). The installed base at the end of 2010 was

estimated at more than 2.1 million machines. Infosource

forecast that by the end of 2011 another 646,000 mid

volume colour machines will have been sold, a 15%

year-on-year growth.

Market Leader

Ricoh is the market leader in the mid volume colour

segment. In 2010, Ricoh sold more than 125,000 mid

volume colour machines (30 to 59 ppm) to customers

in Western Europe, achieving a market share of 22.3%.

Canon and Konica Minolta sold just over 117,000

machines each, achieving market shares of 20.9% and

20.8% respectively. No other manufacturer managed to

achieve more than a 15% share of the market.

Infosource projections suggest Ricoh will

Afi cio MP C3002/C3502 and Afi cio MP C4502/

C5502 have the fastest warm up and recovery times

of any machines in their class. Quick start-up (QSU)

technology means that the new MFPs are ready to

print within seconds, reducing frustrating delays.

Quick recovery from energy saving mode also helps

encourage eco-friendly behaviour.

Eff ortless Productivity

The A3 engines deliver immaculate colour and black-

and-white output at speed. With four engines to choose

from, it is easy to meet the needs of small, medium and

large workgroups. At one end of the scale, Afi cio MP

C3002 runs at a speed of 30 pages per minute and will

produce 1800 colour impressions an hour; at the other

end, Afi cio MP C5502 runs at a speed of 55 pages per

minute and will produce 3300 colour pages an hour.

Fast One-Off Copies and Prints

One-off copies and prints are delivered at speed to

maintain productivity and reduce queues at the MFP. An

interrupt feature allows one-off copies and prints to be

made without aff ecting job settings. The new engines

deliver one-off colour copies and prints faster than their

predecessors and most competitor machines.

Scheduled Print

The Scheduled Print feature enables users to specify

a time at which documents will be printed. Using this

feature, it is possible to schedule long print jobs -

invoices, statements, reports etc - to run overnight or at

the weekend, when they are less likely to inconvenience

other users. The time is specifi ed within the print driver

and can be amended at the operation panel or via

WebImageMonitor.

Pre-confi gured Models

Afi cio MP C3002 and MP C3502 are supplied in AD

confi guration which includes a pre-fi tted Automatic

Reversing Document Feeder. Afi cio MP C4502 and MP

C5502 are supplied in AD and SPDF confi gurations.

The SPDF confi guration includes a pre-fi tted Single

Pass Duplex Feeder. The ARDF and SPDF units are not

available as upgrade options.

Automatic Document Feed (AD models)

AD models are equipped with a high capacity ARDF.

This unit can be used to feed single and double sided

originals for scanning and copying. The ARDF for Afi cio

MP C3002AD/C3502AD will feed up to 50 originals

and scan them at a speed of 51 images per minute. The

ARDF for Afi cio MP C4502AD/C5502AD will feed up to

100 originals and scan them at a speed of 67 images

per minute.

Single-Pass Duplex Feed (SPDF models)

SPDF models (Afi cio MP C4502SPDF and MP

C5502SPDF only) are equipped with a high capacity

Single Pass Duplex Feed (SPDF). This unit is not

available as an option. The SPDF reads the front and

back sides of a document at the same time, increasing

the speed at which documents are scanned. Perfect for

scan intensive applications, the SPDF can capture up to

116 colour A4 images a minute.

Full Speed Duplex

The new models are equipped with a full speed duplex

which automatically cycles paper to produce smartly

presented double sided output without compromising

productivity. The interleaving design means that there

is no restriction on the number of duplex copies and

prints that can be made. The duplex unit is an integral

part of the MFP design and takes up very little space.

2 x 550 Sheet Paper Trays

The new models are equipped with two high-capacity

paper trays. The trays can be adjusted to feed paper

formats from A5 to A3. With two paper trays, it is easy

to hold diff erent paper formats online. The new models

are able to automatically select the right size paper

and switch between paper trays in the event that paper

needs replenishment.

Active 100 Sheet Bypass

The integral 100 sheet bypass can be used to feed

stacks of non-standard media including card stock

of up to 300 gsm. Use of the bypass saves time by

reducing the need to remove and replace media held in

standard trays when printing onto non standard media.

Letterhead Printing The letterhead printing feature

synchronises the simplex and duplex paper paths so

that a single tray of pre-printed letterhead paper can

be used for both simplex and duplex pages. Whether

printing single or double sided, the Ricoh MFP will

leave a border at the top of the fi rst page to avoid

printing on the letterhead.

Optional Paper Trays

The standard paper capacity of 1200 sheets (2 x

550 sheet standard paper trays and 1 x 100 sheet

bypass) can be extended to 4400 sheets. Paper feed

options include a 2 x 550 sheet paper deck, a 2 x 1000

sheet large capacity tray and a 1200 sheet side LCT.

Increasing paper capacity improves productivity by

reducing the number of interruptions for replenishment.

Space Saving Internal Tray

Output is delivered to a 500 sheet space-saving internal

tray. An optional 125 sheets 1-bin tray fi ts inside

the standard catch tray and can be used to separate

important output such as inbound fax communication.

An optional 250 sheet internal shift sort tray fi ts inside

the internal tray and provides the means to off set sort

documents ready for fi ling or distribution. A 125 sheet

side tray is also off ered as an option.

Please note, the side tray and internal shift sort tray

cannot be installed together, and neither unit can be

installed in combination with other fi nishing options.

The capacity of the internal catch tray is reduced to 250

sheets if the 125 sheet 1-bin tray, 250 sheet internal

1000 Sheet Finisher (option for all models)

A fl oor standing fi nisher is available for document

intensive applications. This unit has a 1000 sheet

shift tray and 250 sheet proof tray and will staple up

to 50 sheets of paper in any one of three positions (1

staple in 2 positions or 2 staples in 1 position). Please

note, this unit requires a bridge unit and a two-tray

paper bank or LCT or cabinet and cannot be installed

I-Style Design

Ricoh’s I-Style design concept is both eye-catching

and eff ective. A tilting colour touch-screen display - the

centrepiece of the MFP - simplifi es operation. The

white and grey colour scheme has a contemporary look

which works well in the modern offi ce environment.

Operational areas such as the operation panel and

delivery area are emphasised in grey.

Colour Touch-Screen Panel

Although the new machines look radically diff erent

from older Ricoh MFPs, they feature the same colour

touch-screen panel. The common interface makes

these machines ideal for a mixed fl eet installation

where users will fi nd themselves instantly familiar with

Ricoh’s simple intuitive interface. The colour operation

panel is brightly lit and has intuitive menu systems that

make operation simpler than that of most competitor

machines.

Accessibility Features

The new MFPs are designed to be used by wheelchair

bound operators and operators with visual impairment.

The touch-screen panel has large brightly lit icons

and can be tilted for easy viewing. Printer drivers are

compatible with screen reader technology. The Colour

Barrier-Free Management feature, selected via the

printer driver, enhances colours so that they are more

easily distinguished by people with colour weaknesses.

Paper trays can be opened and toner replenished with

one hand. By installing a single deck paper feed unit,

the operating height of the machine can be reduced.

The scanner unit of AD models can be desk mounted to

improve access for chair bound operatives by installing

the Scanner Accessibility option. The scanner unit of

SPDF models cannot be desk mounted but ADF Handle

option can be attached which makes it easier for chair

bound operatives to open and close the scanner unit of

SPDF models.

Customisable Home Screen

The home screen of the MFP can be customised. A

corporate logo can be inserted at the upper right corner

of the screen and the desktop customised to include

preferred function icons. Individual users can also

create their own personal home screens* to include a

programme shortcut which automates a frequently used

operation.

Intuitive Menu

The menu system is intuitive and easy to use. Even

seemingly complex tasks like producing booklets and

magazines are made easy with press button selection.

A button on the right of the control panel switches the

colour display to a simplifi ed setting allowing users

with visual impairment view menu options machine

MFP Web Browser (option)

Using the optional MFP Web Browser*, users can

browse external websites and print out the displayed

page directly from the operational panel of the MFP.

Webpage addresses can be registered as bookmark

icons on home screen. Using this feature, users can

print Google maps, e- tickets and coupons without

needing to access a PC/Mac.

It should be noted that this feature does have some

limitations. Because of the way they are compiled, some

web pages cannot be displayed within the web browser

and web pages consisting of multiple frames cannot be

printed. Unfortunately it is not possible to ascertain in

advance which web pages are supported and which are

not.

AirPrint Support enables users to print directly from

i0S 4.2 supported devices such as iPhone and iPad

to the new MFPs. In the wireless mode iOS devices

will automatically locate supported devices. E-mails,

photographs, web pages and other documents are

easily printed without need to download print drivers or

make a physical connection with the device.

Layout and Booklet Printing (support for Mac OS)

Layout and booklet printing is supported in Mac 0S and

Windows environments. Using this feature it is possible

to save paper by presenting large documents such as

multi-slide PowerPoint presentations in a compact

booklet format. Multiple pages are automatically tiled

and paginated by the MFP and printed ‘N-up’ (2 in 1 or

4 in 1) in booklet format.

Colour Scanning

The new models are confi gured ready to print, copy and

scan. Afi co MP C3002/C3502SP will scan documents

in full colour at speeds of up to 51 originals per minute

and Afi co MP C4502/C5502SP will scan documents

in full colour at speeds of up to 67 originals per

minute. Documents can be forwarded to email, saved

to the integral document server or to another network

location.

Drop Out Colour

This new feature enables users to screen out colour

when scanning. This enables users to remove

information such as handwritten notes from the

document before storage or reproduction. As well as

cleaning up the appearance of documents, this feature

will enhance OCR capability improving the eff ectiveness

of electronic document management systems.

WS Scanner

WS Scanner is a new feature compatible with the WSD

(Web Services for Devices) protocol introduced with

Windows Vista and continued with Windows 7. The

feature allows users to pre-confi gure scan settings at

their PC and scan documents to PC using the specifi ed

settings without having to change scanned parameters

at the MFP.

High Compression PDF

Conventional scanners have diffi culty maintaining

a balance between fi le size and image quality. The

Afi cio range uses High Compression PDF for single

and multipage documents with the optimum fi le size

determined by the scanner depending upon the ratio of

image to text. Generating compressed PDF fi les reduces

network traffi c, particularly if printed using PDF Direct

Print.

Encrypted PDF Transmission

PDF documents scanned to email or saved to the

document server or to another network location can

be encrypted and password protected to ensure

they are read only by the intended recipient. This

feature will appeal to companies and department

handling confi dential documents such as new product

information, contracts and personal data.

Integral Document Server

The new MFPs are equipped with a 190 GB hard disk

drive. The document server can be used to store up to

3,000 documents / 9,000 pages. Documents can be

scanned directly to the document server or received by

fax, email or IP transfer. Regularly printed documents

such as expense sheets can be saved in the document

server and printed on demand, eliminating the need to

hold pre-printed stock.

Search and Preview

Documents in the document server can be searched

by fi le name or by thumbnail. The thumbnail feature

can also be used to preview and confi rm it documents

content. Previewing scanned documents allows

users to check the appearance of scanned data

before transmission, eliminating potentially costly or

embarrassing errors.

LDAP Addressing

With LDAP support (Lightweight Directory Access

Protocol), uses are able to select email and fax

addresses from the control panel of the MFP. Fax

numbers and email addresses are updated automatically

from LDAP servers. Users can search for fax numbers

at the MFP control panel. Addresses can be searched

by name, email address, number, company and

department name.

With the addition of the fax option, the new models

become communication hubs, capable of scanning a

document in less than a second and transmitting it in

just two seconds. With the addition of the G3 option,

the new MFPs can support three fax lines. Adding fax

functionality can help when presenting total cost of

ownership savings since the page cost is lower that

than of a stand-alone fax machine.

Internet Fax

With the addition of the fax option, the new models

can be used as internet faxes. Faxes can be transmitted

to, and received from, other internet faxes using T.37

internet protocols for reduced transmission cost and

faster transmission speeds.

IP Fax

With the IP-Fax feature, users can send faxes to, or

receive faxes from, any IP-Fax machine connected to

the same network using TCP/IP protocol. Senders use

the IP address to specify the destination machine, or the

alias number when using the gatekeeper. User can also

send faxes to the G3 fax machines connected to PSTN

via the VoIP gateways.

No email server is required as IP-Fax communicates

with the destination fax machines that are connected to

the same network directly. The transmission speed is

higher than using G3.

LAN Fax

The LAN Fax feature allows users to transmit fax

messages directly from PC without need to print out

and re-scan the fax document, reducing the number

of steps taken to send a fax and increasing desktop

convenience.

Remote Fax

Using the Remote Fax function, users can send or receive

fax documents via an Afi cio MP C3002/3502/4502/5502

not confi gured with a fax option by sharing the fax option

attached to another Afi co MFP on the same network. This

feature saves money by reducing the initial investment

for fax options and eliminating the running costs of

maintaining multiple fax lines.

Paperless Fax

Inbound faxes can be routed directly to email,

safeguarding document security and ensuring that

important documents are not overlooked. Inbound

faxes are converted to TIFF format and saved to the

integral document server or forwarded as an email

attachment to nominated recipients. When saved to the

document server, an e-mail notifi cation and URL is sent

to the nominated recipient. The fax can be opened in a

standard web browser by clicking on the URL.

Network Ready

All models are supplied with an Ethernet network

interface card and can be connected directly to a wired

network for shared use as a network printer/scanner.

Additional network options include a wireless interface

which supports the latest high-speed ’G’ standard

and WPA security. There is also a gigabit Ethernet

interface option which provides ultrafast wired network

connectivity.

Mail to Print

Mail to Print is a new feature that enables users to send

an e-mail with attached data directly to a postscript

enabled MFP for printing. This feature will prove useful

in environments where use is made of handheld smart

phones. Using Mail to Print, messages and attachments

received on a smart phone can be printed directly to the

Afi cio MFP without need to open them on a PC.

PDF Direct Print

PDF Direct Print enables PDF documents to be printed

directly to a postscript enabled MFP. Although PDF

fi les are relatively small, when processed they become

larger and can place unnecessary load on the network.

A 325 kB PDF fi le can, for example become a 2.18 MB

print fi le when printed using a standard Windows driver.

Using PDF Direct Print documents are processed by the

MFP rather than the PC, reducing network traffi c and

releasing computer resource.

IPDS (Host) Printing

A genuine IPDS option, unique to Ricoh, enables Afi cio

MP C3002/3502/4502/5502 to print host data such

as invoices and statements directly from IBM AS400 /

iSeries mainframe systems. With this option, the new

machines can be used to replace dedicated line printers

as well as more conventional imaging devices such as

standalone printers, copiers, faxes and scanners.

IPDS (Intelligent Print Data Stream) is a page

description language generated by mainframe computer

systems. Other printers handle IPDS data streams

by converting them to a language which the printer

understands. The conversion process can lead to errors

and may slow the print process. Ricoh is the only

manufacturer currently able to provide a genuine IPDS

option.

The genuine IPDS option enables bi-directional

communication with the mainframe computer system.

The native page description language is managed

at page level for error free production at full engine

speed. Competitor devices, which use fi lters to convert

data streams, slow signifi cantly when printing from

mainframe computer systems and are only able to

monitor print at job level.

Ricoh’s genuine IPDS option supports intelligent mail

barcoding (IMB), the latest barcode system developed

by the US Postal Service. The barcode, which is

generated by the main frame computer, can be printed

onto address labels, direct mail pieces and envelopes.

Other print devices either do not support IMB or require

additional software.

All models are equipped with a VM card. The VM card

can be used to run intelligent embedded software

applications which can be used to automate, streamline

and govern the document workfl ow. The Streamline NX

option, for example, provides the means to authenticate

users, restrict access, record usage and hold print

securely until released.

Mandatory Security Information

The Mandatory Security Information feature enforces

document security by automatically appending security

information to every document produced. The security

information added to documents includes the name or

user ID of the originator, the date and time the job was

printed, the IP address of originating computer and the

serial number of the MFP on which the job was printed.

Quota Setting

Quota Setting allows the administrator to limit the

output of individual users and user groups. By setting

page count and user count limits, the administrator is

able to control the print environment and reduce cost.

Fax output is not restricted. A new Scheduling feature

enables the administrator to set the point at which

individual users and group print quotas are reset.

Banner Page Print

Using the new Banner Page print feature, a job sheet

is printed at the start of the print job identifying the

originator. This feature makes it easier to identify work

in a busy environment, reducing the risk of work being

mislaid or duplicated. The Banner Page includes the

originators username, the date and time of printing, the

originating computer’s hostname and a job name.

IEEE2600.1 Compliant

Suitable for use in secure environments, all models

are equipped with Data Overwrite Security and HDD

Encryption as standard. The new MFPs will undergo

Common Criteria Certifi cation testing (the International

Security standard for IT systems and software) and are

designed to meet the IEEE2600.1 standard, the highest

level of common criteria certifi cation.


Data Overwrite Security overwrites temporary data held

on the MFPs hard drive with random data. The random

data is overwritten twice to ensure that the original data

cannot be recovered. This method of data overwrite is the

USA Department of Defence standard. HDD Encryption

protects information by encrypting the address book,

authentication information and stored documents.

Output Switch Timer for Fax

To reduce the risk that inbound fax messages are

left sitting in a catch tray where they may be read by

unauthorised personnel or inadvertently picked up

along with other documents, the administrator can set

a time schedule for fax output. Inbound fax messages

received overnight or at the weekend can be held in

memory and automatically printed at a predetermined

time.

Eco-Information Screen

To encourage eco-friendly behaviour, an eco-

information screen can be displayed as a pop-up on the

operation panel. The pop-up advises the total number

of pages printed by a user and shows any reduction

they have made in paper consumption through use of

duplex and N-up printing. The pop-up has a free type

area in which the administrator can promote a corporate

environmental message.

Unauthorised Copy Control

This feature enhances document security by preventing

unauthorised copying of confi dential documents. A

text pattern, such as ‘No Copying’ is embedded as a

watermark on the original document. The watermark is

repeated on subsequent copies making them diffi cult to

read. Ricoh MFPs equipped with the Copy Data Security

option recognise the watermark and grey out the copy.

PDF/A and Digitally Signed PDF

PDF/A is a fi le format and ISO standard for the long-

term archiving of electronic documents. The format

locks the document to maintain its originality and

records within the document a ‘Device Certifi cate’ which

identifi es the scanning device. Digitally signed PDFs

are a regulatory standard for electronic invoicing and a

preferred compliance standard for electronic document

management.

Enhanced Encryption Level

Another new feature enables the user to select more

secure encryption algorithms when encrypting

documents saved to PDF. Government and industry

compliance regulations may require the customer to

adopt one or other enhanced encryption level. The

supported algorithms include AES256bit (used by the

US government, NESSSIE in EU and CRYPTREC in

Japan) and SHA-2 (used by the US National Security

Agency).

Bates Numbering

Bates numbering is used in the legal, medical and

fi nancial markets to place identifying numbers on

documents as they are scanned or processed. The new

MFPs enable Bates numbering to be applied as a stamp

by selecting it in the copier/document server menu.

The feature saves time by automating the numbering

process.
