Tunisian Mitered Throw

Throw measures 48" x 61".

Materials:

RED HEART® "Super Saver®": 7 Skeins 946 Peruvian Print.

Crochet Hook: 10mm [US N-15] Crystalites® or Luxite® hook (requires hook without a wide thumb/finger grip).

Stitch marker, yarn needle.

GAUGE: Square = 4¼" x 4¼". CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

NOTE: Follow the schematic: numbers refer to working order and letters refer to type of square.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATION: TSS (Tunisian Simple Stitch) = insert hook under next vertical bar, yo and draw through keeping loop on hook.

SQUARE A (Full Square beginning a diagonal row)- Row 1 (Right Side): Ch 21, pick up a loop in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across – 21 sts. Row 1 Return: Yo, draw through first loop, [yo, draw through 2 loops] 8 times, yo, draw through 4 loops – center cluster made, [yo, draw through 2 loops] 9 times – 1 loop on hook. Row 2: Skip first vertical bar, [TSS] 8 times, insert hook under center vertical bar of cluster and draw up a loop – mark this loop, [TSS] 8 times, TSS working under both vertical bars of final st – 19 sts. Row 2 Return: Yo, draw through first loop, * yo, draw through 2 loops *; repeat from * to * until 2 loops remain on hook before marked loop, yo, draw through 4 loops; repeat from * to * to end – 1 loop on hook. Row 1 Return: Yo, draw through first loop, * yo, draw through 2 loops; repeat from * until 3 loops remain on hook; yo, draw through 3 loops – right cluster made and 1 loop on hook. RED HEART® “Eco-Ways®” 3 skeins each, 1615 Lichen A, 3314 Chamois B, 3523 Asparagus C and 3360 Mushroom D.

Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9]. Yarn needle.

GAUGE: Rounds 1-3 = 4" in diameter. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the specified gauge.

Stripe Sequence Work 1 round with A, 2 rounds with B, 3 rounds with C, 2 rounds with A, 3 rounds with D, 2 rounds with B, 3 rounds with C, 3 rounds with D, 1 round with A, 2 rounds with D, 4 rounds with B, 2 rounds with D, 4 rounds with C, 2 rounds with A, 1 round with B, 2 rounds with D, 3 rounds with C, 3 rounds with A, 2 rounds with B, 1 round with D and 1 round with A. Work these 47 rounds for Stripe Sequence.

Afghan measures 52½" x 64½".

Materials:

RED HEART® "Super Saver®": 2 Skeins 931 Seagrass A, 1 skein 320 Cornmeal B, 2 skeins 505 Aruba Sea C, 3 skeins 631 Light Sage D.

Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10]. Yarn needle.

GAUGE: Rnds 1-2 = 3" square; each block = 7" square. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

To Change Color in Dc: Work last dc until 2 loops remain on hook, with new color, yarn over and draw through last 2 loops.

BLOCK (Make 63): With A, ch 5; join with a slip st in first ch to form a ring. Rnd 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, [ch 2, 3 dc in ring] 3 times; hdc in top of ch-3 to join and form last ch-2 space. Rnd 2: Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all over hdc, [ch 1; (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all in next ch-2 space – corner made] 3 times, ch 1; join with a slip st in top of ch-3. Fasten off A.

Afghan measures 44" x 58" Materials:

RED HEART ® "Soft Yarn": 4 skeins 4600 White A, 5 skeins 9440 Grey Heather B.

Crochet Hook: 6.5mm [US K-10.5]. Yarn needle.

GAUGE: 10 sts = 3"; 8 rows = 3" in pattern. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. SPECIAL ABBREVIATION: Trcl (treble cluster) = [yo] twice, working all on right side of fabric insert hook into same st 3 rows below as last tr and draw up a loop, [yo and draw through 2 loops] twice, skip next 3 sts 3 rows below, [yo] twice and draw up a loop in next ch-1 space, [yo and draw through 2 loops] twice, yo and draw through all 3 loops.

To Change Color in Dc: Work last dc before color change until 2 loops remain on hook, drop color in use, with next color to be used yo and draw through 2 loops on hook; continue with new color. NOTE: Do not cut colors but drop to wrong side when not in use and pick up again as needed.

AFGHAN With A, ch 144. Row 1 (Wrong Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 143 sc. Kids Flower Throw

Throw measures 54" x 54".

Materials:

RED HEART® "Super Saver®": 1 Skein each 722 Pretty ‘n Pink A and 672 Spring Green B; 2 skeins 324 Bright Yellow C, and 3 skeins 385 Royal D.

Crochet Hooks: 6.5mm [US K-10.5] and 5.5mm [US I-9].

Yarn needle.

GAUGE: Motif = 6" across with larger hook. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge. NOTE: After the first motif, all others are joined

while working Joining Rnd 3. MAIN FLOWER-(Make 32 A, 40 C, and 9 B): With larger hook, ch 5; join with a slip st to form a ring. Rnd 1: Ch 3, 15 dc in ring; join with a slip st in top of ch-3 – 16 sts. Rnd 2: Ch 4, holding back last loop on hook, tr in same st as joining, holding back last loop on hook, 2 tr in next dc, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook – beginning cl (cluster) made; ch 5, * holding back last loop on hook, 2 tr in each of next 2 dc, yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook – cl (cluster) made, ch 5; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in top of beginning cl – 8 petals. Fasten off.

Make all the Flowers, then work Rnd 3, joining them together following the diagram.

Rnd 3 (First Motif Only): With right side facing and larger hook, join D in any ch-5 space; ch 3, (3 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) all in same space, * (4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) all in next ch-5 space; repeat from * around; join in top of ch-3. Fasten off.

Joining Rnd 3: With right side facing and larger hook, join D in any ch-5 space; ch 3, (3 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) all in same space; 4 dc in next ch-5 space, ch 1, slip st in corresponding ch-2 space of adjoining motif, ch 1, 4 dc in same ch-5 space, slip st between two 4-dc groups of adjoining motif, 4 dc in next ch-5 space, ch 1, slip st in corresponding ch-2 space of adjoining motif, ch 1, 4 dc in same ch-5 space – one side joined; * (4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) all in next ch-5 space; repeat from * around; join in top of ch-3. Joining Rnd 1: With right side facing, ch 3, dc in ring, ch 2, slip st in any intersection, ch 2, * 2 dc in ring, ch 2, slip st in next intersection, ch 2; repeat from * around; join in top of ch-3. Fasten off.

Work a flower with D in each of the remaining spaces between motifs as follows: With larger hook, ch 5; join with a slip st to form a ring. Joining Rnd 1: With right side facing, ch 4, slip st in any intersection, ch 4, * sc in ring, ch 4, slip st in next intersection, ch 4; repeat from * around; join with a slip st in ring. Fasten off.

Materials:

RED HEART® “Super Saver®” in 321 Gold A, 332 Ranch Red B, 656 Real Teal C, 400 Grey Heather D, 376 Burgundy E, 380 Windsor Blue F and 788 Williamsburg Print G.

Knitting Needles: 9mm [US 13] 24" long circular.

Crochet Hook: 6.5mm [US K-10.5]. Cable needle. Stitch markers. Yarn needle.

GAUGE: 10 sts = 4"; 15 rows = 4" in Stockinette Stitch holding 2 strands of yarn together. CHECK

YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the specified gauge.

Notes: Body of afghan is worked with 2 strands of yarn held together. It is worked back and forth in rows on circular needles until enough stitches have been increased to work in the round. Change to longer needles as is necessary or work with 2 or 3 circular needles at a time to contain the large number of stitches.
