On July 17, 2017, the College received awards from The Indus Foundation in two categories, namely, Best Student Services and for being the Best Emerging Educational Institution.

On August 15, 2017, Ms. Shagufta Kazi, T. Y. BMS., was awarded the Best NSS Student Volunteer for the year 2016-17, by the University of Mumbai at the District level. She is also awarded a scholarship of Rs. 4250/- for the best meritorious girl student from amongst the National Service Scheme unit of the University of Mumbai.

RECOGNITIONS

Dr. Meeta Pathade was invited as a resource person to address the Research Cell members at Gurukul College on July 19, 2017.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMS

This academic year the orientation programs to all the students were conducted in their respective classrooms. Powerpoint presentations were prepared with optimum information to be made available to the students.

On July 8, 2017, in the College auditorium, a Parents Teachers Association meet was organized to orient parents of the Third Year students about the course of work College will be undertaking to ensure their ward’s better results at the University examinations. Also guided them about how they can ensure students study on a daily basis. On August 12, 2017, a Parents Teachers Association meet was also organized for the parents of the first and second year students.

YOUTH FESTIVAL Our College was chosen as the venue by the University of Mumbai to partner in hosting the Selection round of the “50th Inter – Collegiate Cultural Youth Festival”, in the category of Performing Arts. The event was held on August 19 – 20, 2017.

Mime Mimicry

Our students won in this elimination round and entered into the next round of the competition in the events of Folk dance (performing arts) ; Rangoli and Collage (fine arts)

IQAC

Monisha D’costa was deputed to attend a One Day Workshop on Syllabus Revision for S. Y. B. Com. / BMS organized by the IQAC of SVKM’s Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics in collaboration with the University of Mumbai, on July 4, 2017.

On July 13, 2017, Dr. Venkataramani, who has been a member of the NAAC Peer Team, for assessing Colleges and Universities, was invited to conduct an orientation for the Management of the College and the IQAC members regarding the conduct of various kinds of audits which are a pre-requisite for the quality assurance process. This was one of the major agenda in IQAC meet conducted on the day.

Re-constitution of the IQAC To ensure more efficient functioning of the IQAC, it was re-constituted with effect from June 2017. Mrs. Renita Vazirani was appointed the IQAC Co-ordinator; Ms. Kainath Keshwani was nominated to be the Alumni Representative; Ms. Vaishnavi Kadam, S. Y. B. Com. (BBI) was selected the Student Representative from among other students through a round of interview. And through a voting process among the teachers, Mrs. Netra Thakre and Mrs. Deepti Sadvelkar were appointed the teacher members of the IQAC.

DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES

Department of Mathematics conducted remedial lectures from June 27 – July 3, 2017, for students attempting the ATKT examinations in the subject.

On July 5, 2017, the Department of Accountancy conducted a briefing lecture on GST to all the staff members.

On July 8, 2017, the Department of Accountancy, organized a One day Study Tour to Silvassa. The students visited Rivon Manufacturing Company. There were in all fifty-five students who participated in the same.

Department of Business Communication organized a Story writing competition ‘Words for Worms’ on July 20, 2017. In this activity twelve words / phrases were given to the students and they had to accordingly develop a story of around 300 – 350 words, on those lines.

Department of Foundation Course organized a Poster making competition on July 21, 2017, in classroom C-302 on the topics - Disasters (Manmade / Natural) and Seven Emotions.

Department of Computers conducted a Guest Lecture on ‘Financial Independence’, on July 29, 2017, in the Conference room. The speaker was Mr. Gaurav Khemka, Assistant Vice President, SBI Funds Management Private Limited

Department of Economics conducted a Quiz competition on August 2, 2017. Department of Management conducted a Quiz competition on August 5, 2017. Department of Economics conducted an Essay writing competition on August 16,

2017, on the topics – Demonetization in India / GST: One Tax One Nation. On August 22, 2017, the Department of Library conducted a Bookmark making

competition to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, more well known as the Father of Library Science.

Department of Commerce organized a Quiz Competition on August 23, 2017

ALUMNI

On July 9, 2017, the Alumni committee organized an Alumni Meet. Thirty eight alumni attended the meet, in which they discussed about the activities to undertake during the academic year. They also discussed about their proposed contribution to the College

An Alumni Orientation Program was conducted in all the third year classes on July 21, 2017. This is to encourage students to join the Alumni Association on completing their Graduation. In the orientation, the students were informed of the benefits of joining the alumni association. Around nine alumni members visited the classes and addressed the students.

PREPARATION FOR COMPETITIVE EXAMS Through the Department of Accountancy and Mathematics, a new and novel initiative was undertaken at the College with teachers training student on Quantitative Aptitude hence

preparing them to appear for competitive examinations after their Graduation. The course commenced on July 10, 2017. Topics covered so far are Permutation and Combination ; Number System ; Average ; Probability ; HCF and LCM and Percentages. FORMATION OF THE STUDENT COUNCIL On August 3, 2017, the elections were held for appointing the General Secretary and the Students’ Council for the year 2017 -18. Ensuing which Shagufta Kazi, T. Y. BMS was elected the General Secretary ; Gunjal Tandkar, T. Y. BMS was elected the Assistant General Secretary ; Rahul Rajbhar S. Y. B. Com. was elected the Deputy General Secretary and Sapna Kumavat, F. Y. BMS, was elected the Assistant Deputy General Secretary EXTRA – CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

On June 21, 2017, the International Yoga Day was celebrated on campus, with a lot of students gathering in the auditorium for a long yoga session, driven and guided by the Chairman of our Institution.

The Cultural Committee of the College organized a Talent Week from July 24 – 28, 2017. In this a variety of inter-collegiate competitions were conducted, as mentioned below :

Cooking (without fire)

Mehendi Rangoli Cartooning Collage Poster making

Winners will be awarded with certificates and medals at the annual prize distribution ceremony.

Teachers and the members of the Student Council were present on August 15, 2017,

for the flag hoisting ceremony conducted on campus.

RESEARCH & PUBLICATION

Sunita Bhuiya was deputed to attend the ICSSR (WRC) Sponsored National Workshop on Research Methodology in Social Science organized by Gokhale Education Society’s College of Education and Research, held during July 31 – August 5, 2017.

Shivangi Sharma's paper was presented and published in absentia at the National Seminar on, “Enhancing Employability through Effective Communication & Life Skills”, organized by the Department of English, M. L. Dahanukar College of

Commerce, on July 8, 2017. The research paper was titled, “Enhancing Employability through Effective Communication & Life Skills”.

SPORTS

Department of Sports screened the movie ‘Sachin’ on July 19, 2017, in all the classrooms to motivate the students to increasingly take up sports activities in the College.

Department of Sports arranged for the second year students to be taken to watch live the ‘Ultimate Table Tennis’ tournament on July 30, 2017, from 6.30 – 10.30 pm. College organized for the transport of students from College to the venue and return.

A group of fourteen students emerged in the Top 20 in the Marathon race of the University of Mumbai held on August 29, 2017.

NSS

On June 20, 2017, the NSS unit of the University of Mumbai conducted their planning

session for the academic year 2017 - 18, on our College ground. A total of fifty- eight participants from around twenty-six Colleges attended the meet. In the meet were discussed activities to be conducted in the year along with the budgeting of the same.

The unit conducted a paper bag making activity on campus, where the volunteers prepared four hundred and fifty bags from unused paper and newspapers, during August 12 – 16, 2017.

The NSS unit of our College undertook beautifying the campus by making it greener and more environment friendly by planting lily around the campus. This was undertaken on August 15 & 28, 2017. A total of ninety plants were planted (45 in each day).

The NSS unit of our College organized the First term Mini Orientation for the registered student volunteers on August 4, 2017.

A workshop on Dengue and Malaria was organized for its volunteers on August 12, 2017, in the conference room. These workshops orient the student volunteers about the symptoms, effects and precautionary measures towards the diseases and enable the students to spread the word of caution and awareness to the larger community.

The NSS student volunteers were invited to the World Peace and Harmony Conclave on August 13, 2017 at Worli.

PATUCK LIFE SKILLS FOUNDATION

The degree section unit of the Patuck Life Skills Foundation organized in the

auditorium, on July 29, 2017, an orientation program for the proposed ‘English Speaking Course’. The course will be delivered by experts from the Sujaya Foundation.

On August 1, 2017, the College entered into an MoU with Sujaya Foundation in which it was agreed that the College will facilitate and provide space for the conduct of the Certificate course while the expert resource persons will be provided by Sujaya Foundation.

The three month program begun from August 7, 2017.

BMA

On June 2017, the institutional membership of BMA was obtained. On August 5, 2017, the BMA conducted a meet for the formation of their Student

Council. Two students from our College Placid P. Mendonca, F. Y. B. Com. / A and Subodh S. Mhatre, S. Y. B. Com. / B were selected to be a part of the BMA Student Council out of a total of 10 members.
