satisfaction scorecard, an excel workbook for analysof data and a form for recording positive outcomes oclient satisfaction evaluation.

Workshop during which 19 community representative5 managers of local hospitals, and 4 administrativestaff of the Bamenda Health District were trained onthe administration of scorecards to clients of publichospitals and the analysis of the resultant data usingtools developed for this purpose. Communityrepresentatives were appreciative of the YHYSinitiative and the tools which they said will facilitatetheir job of holding managers of public hospitals toaccount.

4 persons with firsthand experience of malpracticestaking place within public hospitals have been

recruited and trained and are providing YHYS withreports of malpractices taking place within publichospitals.

Seven (7) educative radio spots have been producedand are being broadcasted over the local media toeducate the general population about their rights,including what they should do when they are notsatisfied with quality of services they receive in publihospitals. These include 3 pidgin audio dramas.These 3 audio dramas have been broadcasted 15times each so far over 3 major local radio stationsnamely (Foundation Radio, Radio Hot Cocoa andAfrique Nouvel FM)

5 (five) live interactive radio talks have been held sofar during which over 700 persons have called in toshare experiences about issues they face in publichospitals. These talks have served as information ricforums during which the population actively participaby sharing their opinions and ideas about how thequality of services in public hospitals can be improveupon.

Workshop during which 4 religious leaders and 10

 journalists were trained on their role in health

governance, health reporting and theevaluation and ranking system for publichospitals. Their engagement in using theirrespective media to educate the population ontheir rights in health governance was alsoenlisted. 

162 client satisfaction questionnaires administered topatients in 5 public hospitals in May 2012. Data usedto rank the performance of the hospitals and resultsdisseminated using local radio, Facebook atwww.facebook.com/yourhealthyoursay and during a

Although not initially planned, AFCIG has created a Facebook page for the YHYS initiative atwww.facebook.com/yourhealthyoursay . Through this page over 100 persons are following the project online,denouncing malpractices in public hospitals and exchanging useful information on improving the quality of servicesin public hospitals. Twitter is also being used similarly. This allows other partners to contribute to the disseminationof findings, denounciation and showcasing by sharing posts and tweets.

The tools developed for the evaluation and ranking of public hospitals were presented to the Delegation of publichealth. The delegation has indicated her interest in advocating for the adoption and use of these tools in healthcenters all across the North West Region once successfully tested in Bamenda 2 Subdivision.

2) What have been the main challenges of your project to date? What, if any, adjustments have you made toyour original business plan in order to overcome the challenges and meet your objectives?

Challenges: Adjustments:

Computer illiteracy: all community representatives haveno computer skills. This rendered the process of trainingthem on the analysis of data from scorecards administeredto clients of public hospitals extremely challenging.

More education and sensitization of the population is

It is proposed that YHYS puts at least one computerat the disposal of the Bamenda District HealthService for the training of CommunityRepresentatives on basic computer skills and for usesubsequently for the analysis of scorecards.

To create greater impact in terms of mass education and sensitization of the public, ‘Your Health, Your Say’ shall be enlisting the support of the Development Marketplace to negotiate with national TV stationsto broadcast an educative documentary to be produced by ‘Your Health, Your Say’.
