Home Learning

In Year 5, we will set homework mostly on Google Classroom as well as in

homework books. Homework will help your child retain information

taught in the classroom as well as increasing their general understanding

of concepts taught.

English – Homework will relate to the unit of work for that week. We

expect a high standard of writing, the same as we would expect in a

lesson.

Maths - Activities given will be based on the unit of work taught that

week.

Reading –For the children to progress in their reading, we expect them

to read daily for at least 30 minutes. Please write a short comment in

their reading log to communicate to us how they are reading at home.

Spellings - Weekly spellings should be practiced at home daily using the

Read, Write, Look, Cover, Check strategy.

Speak Up! - A poem will be given to be learned off by heart at the

beginning of each half term. These will be performed in an assembly

each half term.

In Autumn 2, we will take part in a creative

project called the Enterprise Week where our

children will become more entrepreneurial. We

will design and make an item to sell at our

Winter Bazaar, Winter Wonderland. This

project covers all of the curriculum topics so

the children learn a wide range of skills.

R.E/PSHE

R.E. - We will be exploring how inner forces

effect how we feel. We will also learn about how

Christmas is celebrated around the world.

PSHCE – We will cover the topics ‘New

Beginnings’ and ‘Say no to Bullying’

Educational Visits

We will be visiting Tate and Lyle in November. Some children will also

have the opportunity to visit the House of Parliament.

In December, children will have the fantastic educational and cultural

opportunity to experience the magic of theatre while simultaneously

developing their learning in literacy, literature, creativity, issue-based

learning and citizenship.
