One of the least known and most vital roles in support of international civil aviation is that of the Aeronautical Information Services (AIS). The AIS is the department established in the Air Navigation Services Division of the JCAA which ensures the flow of information necessary for the safety, regularity & efficiency of national and international air navigation.

There are very few AIS personnel in Jamaica.

Currently, there are only 8 trained AIS personnel in Jamaica capable of carrying out all or some specific tasks and functions of the AIS.

All relevant information has to be made available in a timely manner and within

internationally specified time frames and deadlines.

There is no room for error !!!

Errors can contribute to accidents and incidents which may be detrimental to

aviation safety, regularity and efficiency.

Our information and publications should be available and accessible to the relevant aviation operators and interests.

AIS has to constantly liaise (electronically and/or verbally) with local and international entities to ensure the smooth flow of information to/from the rest of the world.

The JCAA and the AIS are mandated to operate within ICAO (International Civil Aviation Authority) specifications, standards and recommended practices. If these rules are not adhered to, then sanctions and/or penalties can be brought against us.
