Automatic Emergency Descent Objectives
Background:- 7 Memory Items to be done within short time and 7 Actions to initiatethe descent: Possible way to reduce pilot workload.- Reaction time is a key element to save all passengers, the crew and theA/C if a depressurization occurs.
Objective 1: To assist Emergency Descent Procedure To ease procedure execution.

Objective 2: To provide a “Last Safety Net” To cover depressurization without crew reaction (TUC* in cruise = 9 to 15s);
Based on automatic Arming and Engagement.
 To ease procedure execution. To cover most common scenarios of emergency descent with crew in the loop.
Based on a sequence of 2 Actions.
*TUC = Time of Useful Consciousness
AED maneuvers
Vertical maneuver• A descent at VMO/MMO – 5kts
to the maximum between 40NM MORA or 10,000ft
Max(10.000ft,40NM MORA)

Lateral maneuver• A right lateral offset of
2.75NM to get free of traffic (except if initially in HDG mode)
Max(10.000ft,40NM MORA)
No Autopilot control laws impact

[4] Once “Clear of Conflict” audio sounds, TCAS mode disengages and a reversion in V/S mode occurs. ALT mode is armed and the aircraft is guided towards the AFS-CP selected altitude
[5] At any moment, flight crew may manually (re-)arm and then (re-)engage AED (pushbutton + speed brakes).If last safety net countdown criteria are still verified, it triggers and leads to AED automatic engagement after 15 seconds.
