Mentoring• A process by which an experienced and

empathetic practitioner in good standing (mentor) influences the growth and refinement of a protégé’s professional and personal life.

• Requires mutual voluntary participation and collaboration between the mentor and the protégé.

• Intended to cultivate the working processes, career success and job satisfaction for both the mentor and protégé.

Preceptors• Preceptors function as clinical educators,

providing education in a clear and concise manner, yet remaining open and respectful.

• Their objective is to improve the existing skill set, and create a positive change in the work culture.

• Time limited, with transition of responsibility • Preceptors require additional instructional

skill-sets that transcend the traditional clinical knowledge and abilities.
