The Summer Music program has been awesome so far. We have around 20 students who have chosen to take either guitar, piano or a bit of both. Since some of the theory and technique that I would like to teach can be a little bit dry we have been learning the concepts through musical games and simple classics like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “Frère Jacques”. I have asked the students to think of songs that they would like to learn and have received such requests as “Country Roads” by John Denver and “Back in Black” by ACDC. With these songs in mind we can develop the technique required to play them. A couple of the students have even been writing their own little songs, which is a great way to learn how musical notation works. I am having a great time teaching, it’s fun but it is also beneficial for me in becoming a better teacher. I still have room for more students so if anyone is interested they can call BDSS 780 372 4074.
This summer we have kept up with our Summer in the Park and Summer Reading Programs every week. They have been a success already this summer and the kids have been having the best time. We started our Summer in the Park program with bubbles the first week and then on to sidewalk games. From there we went into a Frisbee frenzy and water games. Everyone had tons of fun with these activities and others at the park. In August more fun weeks are to come with new games and even the imagination playground. Our Summer Reading Program has also been so much fun. The theme this year is WILD and we have taken the route of wild animals from around the world. The first week we stayed in Canada for Beaver and Moose crafts and games. Then we travelled all the way to the South Pole where we became Penguins for the day. We then travelled to the Desert and Jungle where we played with snakes and giraffes. Coming in August we will be visiting the rainforest, the ocean and Aus-tralia. Plus a revisit back to all the wild places we went to. Come out Wednesdays at 1-3pm at the school playground for Summer in the Park and come out Thursday 1:30-3pm at the Library for our wild fun for our Summer Reading Program.
The Summer Literacy programs are well underway with 42 kids signed up for our Math and Reading liter-
acy programs. The kids have all been working hard to improve their skills in both of these areas. Every-
one works hard in the half hour sessions with lots of fun math games and reading passages. We person-
alize each program to fit the individual’s strengths and struggles. There are still spots available for these
programs, if you are interested in these programs please call BDSS at 780-372-4074 to sign your kids up.

Thank you Sheila MacMillan for another beautiful plant for our win-dow sill! We love it! We also received a new storage shed in our yard and can retire the plastic one that had one door broken. Thank you to the Town of Bashaw, Mur-ray, Peter and Dillan for all your help!! Janessa Heck has been busy completing many projects for us around the daycare and preschool. Thank you! Although it was a very busy month for all of us on the Bashaw Ag Board Karen knew the importance of this day and made it happen anyways. It was a great turn out and a great success! Bashaw Rodeo and Chuck Wagons-June 25 & 26
We have wrapped up the FCA Rodeo and All Pro Canadian Chuckwagon & Chariot Races for 2016. Despite some struggles with the weather the week before and Saturday of the rodeo the Bashaw Ag Society feels that it was a successful weekend. We would like to send out a HUGE Thank You to our many Volunteers and Board Members that helped over the weekend, our sponsors and the Community of Bashaw and surrounding area for coming out to support the event. Our Volunteers and Board; A lot of hours and hard work went into ensuring that everything ran smoothly; not only over the weekend but leading up to the event. Without all of you there to help out in different areas the rodeo and wagon races would not have been possible. Contestants, Stock Contractor and Spectators all were impressed and happy to see this back. Rain and Shine you were all there and pitched in – this ensured that everything ran smoothly and successfully. Our sponsors; without your support we would not have been able to bring this event back to our Town. Your generosity, when we find ourselves in a down turn of the economy, was greatly appreciated. This proved that this event is something that we need to keep having and growing with over the coming years. The Community and surrounding Area; Thank You for coming to support the Rodeo, the Wagon Races, the dance and the Pan-cake Breakfast on Sunday morning. Rain and Shine you were there in the stands cheering on our Rodeo Contestants and Chuck-wagon Teams. We are looking forward to next year!
