How many people should ittake to run Tisbury’s Carnival?
More than the three who, un-til yesterday, were the only onesdedicated and brave enough tokeep this wonderful local cele-bration alive. Now at least there

nival Committee at The SouthWestern, Tisbury, proved howfew of us really care aboutmaintaining one of Tisbury’smost important occasions. Weall love to go to the carnival butdo not realize how much time, effort and gumption is neededto pull off such an event.
To many, it is something to
be ‘hands on’ involved with asTisbury Carnival Committee. So, it is time for a change if youwant to see Tisbury Carnivalalive and well and kicking.
Tisbury Carnival is lookingfor fresh ideas, helpers, support-ers, donations from businesses, advertisers, promoters, andandsponsors. Talk is cheap, so youwill physically need to becomeinvolved with your own ideas tomake them work. This is the funpart of it!
The Valley News report-
help Tisbury Carnival surviveand prosper. See if you can dothe same. even by returning tro-phies which are loaned only fora year, back to Valley News tosave money and avoid having tobuy new ones.
You, and your families in Tis-bury and from neighbouringvillages, will miss Tisbury Car-nival if it stops!

No stonewas leftunturned
By Ace Drummond
When a beautiful old bridgeover the river at Teffont Eviaswas nearly on the point of col-lapsing and needed raising, the skills and ingenuity of lo-cal stone mason Robin Evanswere called on.
After carefully dismantling, thisimportant listed bridge, stoneby stone, he had to painstak-ingly restore the individual sec-tions which needed replacing. The basic structure had to bestrengthened and most of itsconstruction refurbished.
Diligence, as well as plentyof patience and determination, was needed before Robin couldreturn this wonderful piece of lo-cal history to its former glory.
Robin explained that, althoughhe could carve and shape stone
such as - and these are all wordstotally alien to me - copings, cor-bels, and mullions, he preferred
which meant he covered all as-pects of stone work, includingquarrying, sourcing and match-ing, wall building, inside or out, pointing and re-pointing, repair
even intricate patios. One day he might be renovat-
and the next, re-building a wallof an old farm building.

If you need help with any stonerelated problems, you can con-tact Robin on 07979 513096.
Like his fore-fathers, Robin isa true craftsman, with a hugeknowledge of working with stone– It is his life! He is proud of thereputation he has earned locallyover the last decade and the
