NEVER smoke or light fires near theengine.ALWAYS stop the engine and allowit to cool before refueling. Avoidoverfilling and wipe off any fuel thatmay have spilled.ALWAYS move the unit to a placewell away from a fuel storage areaor other readily flammable materialsbefore starting the engine.NEVER place flammable materialclose to the engine muffler.NEVER run the engine without thespark arrester screen in place.

Never make unauthorized attachmentinstallations.

Avoid using or storingthis unit in a wetenvironment. Water onthe cutters may enterthe gear-case anddamage your unit.

Always wear eye, ear, andhand protection whileoperating this unit!

Always wear close-fitting clothing. Gloves offeradded protection and are strongly recommended.Do not wear clothing or jewelry that could getcaught in machinery.

Always keep proper footing and do notoverreach. Maintain your balance at alltimes during operation.

Use extreme caution whenoperating near fences orelectric wiring.

Never cut metal objects orwire with the blade.

Never operate thisunit if the safetyguard has beenremoved ordamaged!

Never allow children to use theunit. Avoid operating nearbystanders.

Always stop the engineand install the blade coverbefore moving to anotherwork site, and maintain afirm footing while operatingor carrying the trimmer.

Always stop theengine beforeremoving branches ordebris from thecutters! Never allowthe cutters to contactbuildings or otherhard objects!

Never operate this unitat full throttle no-loadrpm!

Avoid cutting large or extremely “woody” branches.Doing so can shorten cutter life, and may alsodamage the gearcase.

Always operate withboth hands firmlygripping the unit.

WORK SAFELY!

IMPORTANT!Mix only enough fuel for your immediateneeds! If fuel must be stored longer than30 days and oil with fuel stabilizeris not used, it should first be treated witha fuel stabilizer such as StaBil™.

Filling the Fuel Tank

1. Place the trimmer on a flat, levelsurface.

2. Clear any dirt or other debris fromaround the fuel filler cap.

3. Remove the fuel cap, and fill the fueltank with clean, fresh fuel mixture.

4. Install and firmly tighten the fuel cap.

WARNING!

Minimize the risk of fire!

■ Always allow the trimmer to coolbefore refueling!

■ Wipe all spilled fuel and move thetrimmer at least 10 feet (3 meters)from the fueling point beforerestarting!

■ Never smoke or light any fires nearthe trimmer or fuel!

■ Never place any flammablematerial near the engine muffler!

■ Never operate the engine withoutthe muffler and spark arrester inplace and properly functioning!

Mixing Fuel

CAUTION!

This engine is certified to operate on a50:1 mixture consisting of unleadedgasoline and ISO-L-EGD or JASO FCclass 2-cycle mixing oil only. Use ofnon-approved mixing oils in catalystequipped units can lead to excessivecarbon deposits.

CAUTION!

Some types of gasoline containalcohol as an oxygenate. Oxygenatedgasoline may cause increasedoperating temperatures. Undercertain conditions, alcohol-basedgasoline may also reduce the lubricat-ing qualities of some 2-cycle mixingoils. Never use any type of gasolinecontaining more than 10% alcohol byvolume! Generic oils and someoutboard oils may not be intended foruse in high-performance 2-cycle typeengines, and should never be used inyour Shindaiwa engine.

■ Use only fresh, clean unleadedgasoline with a pump octane of 87 orhigher.

■ Mix all fuel with a 2-cycleair-cooled mixing oil that meetsor exceeds ISO-L-EGD and/or JASOFC classified oils at 50:1 gasoline/oilratio.

Examples of 50:1 mixing quantities■ 1 gallon of gasoline to 2.6 oz. mixing oil■ 5 litres of gasoline to 100 ml. mixing oil

Oil is a registered JASO FCclassified oil and also meets or exceedsISO-L-EGD performance requirements.Shindaiwa One is recommended for usein all Shindaiwa low emissions egines.Shindaiwa one also includes a fuelstabilizer.

Llenado del tanque decombustible

Starting Procedure

2. Set the throttle trigger to the “fast idle”position by performing the following:

a. Depress and hold the throttle lock, andthen squeeze the throttle trigger.

b. Depress and hold the “fast idle”button.

c. While depressing the fast idle button,release the throttle lock and throttletrigger.

4. Operating the throttle will automati-cally disengage the fast idle setting.

■Siempre se debe de evitar cortar setosque tienen más de 1,3cm (1/2 pulg.)de diámetro.

4. Carburetor fuel mixture adjustmentsare preset at the factory and cannot beadjusted or serviced in the field.

1. Loosen the knob located at the topcover and remove the cover.

2. Remove the spark plug lead from thespark plug.

3. Loosen the four 5 mm bolts located atthe top of the recoil housing andremove the cover.

4. Loosen one 5 mm bolt located at thetop of the cylinder cover and two 4 mmbolts located at the bottom of thecylinder cover and remove cover.

5. Loosen two 5 mm muffler bolts andremove the muffler.

6. Loosen two 4 mm bolts at top of themuffler and remove the tail plate.

WARNING!

Never operate the unit with a dam-aged or missing muffler or sparkarrester! Operating with missing ordamaged exhaust components is afire hazard and could also damageyour hearing.

7. Remove the spark arrester screen andclean with a stiff bristle brush.

8. Remove the muffler from the engineand inspect the cylinder exhaust portfor carbon buildup.

9. Reassemble the muffler in the reverseorder of disassembly.

Long Term Storage

Whenever the unit will not be used for 30days or longer, use the following proce-dures to prepare it for storage:

■ Clean external parts thoroughly andapply a light coating of oil to all metalsurfaces.

■ Drain all the fuel from the carburetorand the fuel tank.

IMPORTANT!All stored fuels should be stabilized witha fuel stabilizer such asSTA-BIL™ , if oil with fuelstabilizer is not used.

To remove the remaining fuel from thefuel lines and carburetor and with the fueldrained from the fuel tank:

1. Prime the primer bulb until no morefuel is passing through.

2. Start and run the engine until it stopsrunning.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until the enginewill no longer start.

■ Remove the spark plug and pour about1/4 ounce of 2-cycle mixing oil into thecylinder through the spark plug hole.Slowly pull the recoil starter 2 or 3times so oil will evenly coat the interiorof the engine. Reinstall the spark plug.

■ Before storing the unit, repair orreplace any worn or damaged parts.

■ Remove the air cleaner element fromthe carburetor and clean it thoroughlywith soap and water. Let dry andreassemble the element.

■ Store the unit in a clean, dust-free area.

CAUTION!

Gasoline stored in the carburetor forextended periods can cause hardstarting, and could also lead toincreased service and maintenancecosts.

Where a warrantable condition exists,Shindaiwa Kogyo Co., Ltd. will repairyour small off-road engine at no cost toyou including diagnosis, parts, and labor.
