Advert Analysis
By Beth Oliver
Green DayThis is a magazine advert for Green
Day’s single ‘Wake me up when
September ends’.
The font matches the genre of the band
which is punk/rock. The font is also
known as the band’s brand identity. The
image in the background looks like it is
from a gig or a concert which would link
in with the genre. The lead singer is
clearly shown in the last third of the
advert; this promotes the band and the
lead singer. The main colour
scheme/house style is black, white and
red. Black and red are commonly
associated with this genre of music.
The advert contains all the information
any one who was interested in the
band’s CD would need; e.g. Information
about the single and the upcoming
album. As well as images of what the
CDs will look like, so it makes it easier
for people to spot when looking for them.
RihannaThe main colour scheme for this advert is grey, white and red; this could suggest something dark or sinister, as these colours aren’t normally associated with mainstream music or this artist. The main image is of the artist, this promotes the artist, as well as adds to the spooky, sinister feel of the advert (mise – en – scene). The name of the artist is in a clearly displayed in a bold white font on a black background; this again promotes the artist. Some of the tracks are in red which makes them stand out against the white background. This advert would stand out in a magazine because of the black and white effect and the direct mode of address (eye contact of the artist).
