Lewis & Clark Bicentennial events in Kansas,
please visit www.travelKS.com.
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark’s historic
1804 expedition into the newly-acquired western
territory took them along the northeast edge of
what is now Kansas. While here, they camped
at the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri
rivers, held the first court-martial in the Louisiana
Purchase, and observed the American West’s
first Independence Day with the naming of
Independence Creek near present-day
Atchison. June and July of 2004 mark the
bicentennial commemoration of this epic
journey. Join in the nationwide commemoration,
which includes several Kansas towns along the
Missouri River. For more information on
gravity and experience a passion for aviation
that still soars in Kansas.
Get ready for the heart-pounding excitement
of Kansas motorsports. Be a spectator at one
of Kansas’ many tracks and get your blood
pumping. Hear the roar of the crowd collide
with the sound of stock cars, sprints, bombers,
and cruisers zipping around the track. Indy
Racing, Winston Cup NASCAR, and Legend
are just some of the race circuits
that you can find throughout
the state. Make a pit stop you’ll
never forget and fill up on the
fun in Kansas.
The heritage and foun-
dation of the heartland
of Kansas’ many vineyards.
Experience country living
at an operating sheep
ranch or snuggle in and
get cozy at a charming
bed and breakfast. The
