Open Your Door A Little Wider! Many years ago, I literally used to dread anything church: Mass, homilies, praying the rosary and so on. For me, they were painfully long and offered nothing to me. I couldn’t see the value of doing them. But all that changed when Christ turned my life upside down. He came into my life and completely changed my value-system. My encounter with Jesus was catharsis. I suddenly realized that I was starving of my soul’s food: spending quality time with God in prayer, receiving communion regularly, listening to the word of God, attending retreats, workshops, conferences and serving in the church. Once I started, I couldn’t get enough of these things. “Blessed are those who HUNGER and THIRST for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied”, says Jesus (Mt 5:6). This hunger and thirst became my constant experience. How I wish for a strong hunger and thirst for everything God in our parish community. My attitude before Christ came into my life is typical of many Catholics. The truth of the matter is that, there is apathy in the church. Many people have low appetite and energy for spiritual activities. One of my saddest experiences is to see, in many parishes, the small number of people who turn up for parish spiritual activities outside of Mass. Less then 2% of Catholics attend parish missions, conferences, workshops, novenas, and daily Mass. I must confess that it can be demoralizing to attend these events. Yet, I know that poor attendance is not a sign of rejection of these events, but a lack of spiritual awakening. When people know better they do better. Many are yet to have that life-changing encounter with Christ. Advent is now in full swing. It’s a time of intense spiritual activities in the Church, including prayers, fasting, parish mission, and charitable works of mercy. It is the will of God that everyone encounters his Son Jesus Christ because he is the life of every soul. Jesus himself yearns to come into our lives. As he said, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me” (Rev 3:20). So what does it mean to open our heart? It means, to ask, seek and knock. It means to be disposed to the grace of God through prayers, fasting and charitable works. It means taking advantage of moments of grace such as, prayerful and active participation at Mass, retreats, conferences, bible studies and parish services. It means to deliberately invite Jesus to come into our life. What can you do this Advent season to open your door or make it a little wider for Jesus?

YOUTH MINISTRY MINISTERIO JUVENIL
I feel like I have been through a triathlon! My body is sore and weak, I ache in places I didn't even know existed, but once again we had another amazing retreat with our teens! I am constantly blown away every year when we get back from retreat and see the lives that have been changed by the Holy Spirit during this weekend. I pray that those changed lives stay changed and that the temptations of this world and negativity of those around our teens does not damage what our teens went through. It is so hard to keep the fire alive when you come back from a retreat, especially for teens going right back into the thick of school and friends. One of the things we really focused on during the retreat is finding God in our lives and really taking time to look at our own lives and offering up our pain and struggles to God so that we can be closer to him. A huge thank you to our amazing core team for being there to help run the retreat, Steve and Ana for providing amazing music, and to the parents of our teens who brought their teens to our program. Now to sleep and get ready for the next event! Upcoming Events 12/12-Youth Group 12/16 - 1st year class

Shopping mall safety tips It’s easy for kids to get sidetracked with all the sights, sounds, and smells surrounding us at holiday time. It is especially important to monitor your children when taking them through the mall during the Christmas season. If children become separated from you, teach them to look for a “safe stranger” who can help them. For example, a mom with kids or the cash register person can help a child who is lost. Avoid telling children to go to the “manager.” Any adult in a suit, who looks important, can look like the manager to a child. Children must be told never to leave the mall or store to go looking for you in the parking lot. Let them know that you would never go outside or leave until you are reunited -- no matter what anyone else tells them.

Retirement Fund
for Religious
Aging religious need your help. Senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests ministered for years for little to no pay. Their sacrifices now leave their religious communities without adequate retirement savings. Your gift to today’s second collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious helps to provide medications, nursing care, and more for tens of thousands of elderly religious. Please be generous.
Sean generosos.
Please give to those who have given a lifetime. Done a los que donaron su vida.
