Education News It is the end of APICS FY2017, it has been a great APICS Education year, hard to believe I just completed my 36th year as an APICS member. It has really been a fun ride meeting so many great supply chain folks. I want to thank all the folks that helped make the education program a success this year. Thank you to Karla Biggs-Gregory our Registrar/Materials Manager whose efforts are priceless. Thank you to our great instructors; Honey Johnson, Bob Abeyta, Joe Grigg, Harry McClintock and Amber Diamond. Thank you to the companies that allowed us to use their facilities for public courses; Hunter Douglas, Community College of Denver and DirecTV/AT&T. Of course

there are a lot of other folks that indirectly help make our programs work as well, thank you to them for their support this year.

We still have two more CPIM courses in May and June. ECO on May 6 & 20 and SMR on June 3 & 10, 2017 and you can still register for these courses through Karla at [email protected] This summer we will begin offering two new on-line courses in coordination with the Lean Design Institute. You will be able to take these courses on line 7 x 24 at a convenient time for you. These can also be taught live with an instructor if requested. Watch for registration information in our Fall Education Information published in July.

Mixed Model Line Design that is about a 10 hour course that focuses on Workflow, Designing the Value Stream,

Changeovers.

In August we should get a look at the new reconfigured CPIM courses. The new program will only have two courses and two exams. Stay tuned for more details as they are available. We will have Fall schedules out in July so you can start planning for lifelong learning! Please let me know if you would like to schedule a discussion about a private APICS course for your company, we can accommodate a variety of formats. It has been my pleasure to be on your Board of Directors this year. I have enjoyed awarding many of you $100 and lapel pin when you achieve a certification, we will continue this program next year. APICS provides five books and an online portal specifically for the CLTD class with all the necessary material and practice tests. There were many participants in the class from different industries and various areas within their companies so it was a great platform to learn from other’s experiences. I walked away with a better understanding of Logistics and how it impacts all areas of the supply chain, as well as the increasing importance for companies to have a well-planned and efficient supply chain. "In late 2010 I became an APICS member and decided to make obtaining my CPIM a personal objective and a

professional development goal. I just completed the series of weekly classes and yesterday, I passed the 5th and final test. I have to give a

lot of credit to the course structure and instruction from the good folks at APICS Colorado Chapter 81 in helping me to attain this goal. I

would highly recommend this program to anyone looking to improve their knowledge in the area of operations management." Nathan

Braddock, CPIM, CSCP, Associate Manager, Materials Management and Logistics, Merck, Inc.

“After recently obtaining my CPIM certification through the completion of all the APICS requirements, I can honestly say it

has greatly broadened my understanding and capacity to function at not only the tactical level, but also the strategic level within the Supply

Chain Management organization. The information and insight provided by the APICS instructors through the learning material is truly

invaluable in today’s complex, global realm of business.” - Brett Horacek, CPIM, CSCP, Supply Chain Manager, Hospira, Inc.

“I'm glad I took the CPIM courses because I don't think I could have passed the exams otherwise. I still keep in

contact with some of the instructors, so my attendance at the CPIM courses is still paying off.” Kevin Morningstar, VP Operations,
