PROGRESS UPDATE PLAN FOR NEXT MONTH / WEEK (Including Possible Contingency Plans If Problems Anticipated)

Mon W/B 01/09/15(Detailed Weekly Summary)

This week we planned and discussed different ideas for the music video and created a mind map for them. We wrote down props, mise en scene, artists and narratives that we could explore with different songs.

Next week I am going to analyse a song by an artist to practice for the song we choose for our music video. We are also going to create story boards for the music video and decide which one we are going to use, along with planning out different camera shots/movement.


This week I analysed song lyrics by ‘Stone Roses- Bye Bye Badman’ to practice looking at ways I could create a music video from metaphors and certain lyrics within the song. This helped me analyse the song we have chosen for our music video ‘Hasley-hold me down’.

On Monday I am going to collect images from videos and pictures for the mise en scene to help me visualise the music video better. I am also going to analyse the lyrics for the song more in depth and write down ideas.


I have started gathering images for my mood board of ideas for the music video, and I have also created a word document of shots and editing techniques and mise en scene in the music video. Then I began incorporating Laci’s repertoire of elements into my planning that I used for the music videos, ‘Girls aloud- call the shots’ and ‘Radiohead- . After that I created my blog.

Next week I am going to go out into town and film test shots for the video, to gather inspiration for the main footage.


This week we planned our video for with mood boards and a story board, and filmed the footage on Thursday. We went into Manchester and Affleck’s and shot various types of test shots.

We are going to attempt to contact Halsey manager to see if we can have permission to use her music


This week we contacted Halsey manager to ask for permission, he hasn’t got back to us at the minute. We also began learning about genre theory for postmodernism.

Next week we are going to plan our digi pack analysis and begin to design the first draft of what we want it to look like.


This week we gathered information digi pack analysis and began to design a draft example of what we want our Digi pack to look like.

Our plan for next week is to start writing our mind map essay.


This week we started writing out mind map essay. We also went out and filmed some practice footage on the location in town and different shots- high angle, low angle, close-up, mid-shot, long shot and establishing shot.

We are going to begin to design the poster for our advert on the album release.

Next week I am going to refine my ideas for the advert poster and start to create my digi pack designs as well.


I began to edit the digi pack design ideas, to see what we could use for it, which I made 2 designs and I am now working on my main design. I have also completed the poster for the music video, creating different designs and refining them.

We are going to start filming small shots for our music video to see how it will work, using the photography studio.

Mon W/B26/10/15(Detailed Weekly Summary)

This week we went into the studio and filmed some practice footage of the matches and projector to look at double exposure.

I am going to upload the footage to my blog and select shots we could use for the video footage.


I selected the shots that we could use for the video and then began to film different scenes to see how and what we could use it the scenes for. After that I created another story board with the test shots on them.

We are planning on filming our video in relation to the story board we created, using the information we gathered from the test shots.


We are filming small shots for our music video, using the information we gained from doing the practice shots in the photography studio last week. We shot them in the bath to represent the characters innocence and the fact that she is trying to cleanse herself from the bad things she’s done. We also started to learn more about postmodernism- narrative.

Next week we are uploading the footage we took onto premier pro where we are going to edit the shots and refine what we need to do the week after.

Mon W/B 23/11/15(Detailed Week Summary)

We uploaded the footage and were able to edit the videos together to form an introduction. Now we are planning to film more shots for the video in town to create more of a narrative taking into account the stereotypical views of teenage girls to fit the narrative.

Next week we are going to plan more shoots for the bath shoot so that we have enough shots that we can crosscut to creating a narrative enigma.


We began to film Holly in the bath, filming at different angles and using the natural light from the window to light the set. It was difficult to get clear shots of the subject because of the camera and its lens wasn’t that good of quality than the cannon, due to it being a cropped frame using a prime lens of 35mm.

During lesson next week we are going to upload the footage and see how we can use it within our video so that it flows and doesn’t look out of place.

This week we worked on exam preparation for mock week – revision. Learning about section A and section B and also refined the shots we took of Holly in the bath gathering a variety of different camera angles that we can play around with during post.

Next week I will be revising for mocks and planning on what we can film the week after.


Mock week On Monday I will be planning different questions I can ask out target audience to see what type of videos they like and what they think makes an effective music video.


I created a survey to hand to students to answer, asking them a variety of question relating to the editing, photography and their overall opinion of music videos. I did this using survey monkey; an online survey site that allows you to collect and collate results.

Next week I will be collecting result in order to analyse


This week I analysed my results and found that there was a mixed response from our target audience- I found that most of the people asked like pop, rock and house music which is stereotypical of this age group, and only a few picked alternative. Due to the song we picked being alternative/indie genre we understand that this genre has a niche audience and so the survey supports this fact.

We are going planning on what we are going to do during the holidays and I am going to start designing and drafting logos for my ancillaries.


This week I began designing logos and panning for the Christmas holidays. We are going to go and film in town and gather some shots of Afflecks where the robbery will be.

Next week we are going to put together the footage we took from town using premier pro.


This week we learned more about the theorists in section B of the exam along with piecing together and planning what footage to film next, referring to our story boards.

I am going to upload the footage taken in the bath and see where we can it in.



Throughout the week we learned about the theorists and how to answer section A of the exam. The second half of the week was devoted to coursework and so were able to include some of the shots taken in the bath that we shot at the weekend.

From Monday we are planning on creating a list of shots for our next shoot during the weekend.


On Monday we created a plan for our next shoot and are going to go back to town to refine the shots we took.

Next week we are going to refine the bath shots again and film some of the symbols we want in the video to make our narrative clearer.


This week we are planning on filming more footage in the bath of the symbolism of the words written on the cards in the bath. We are doing this so that the audience has a better picture of character one’s thoughts and feelings during the video.
