PureSport FactsPureSport™ was developed by Dr. John Ivy, Professor of Kinesiology and Health Education at the University of Texas.

His PureSport Workout and PureSport Recovery nutritional formulas are designed to enhance the human body’s performance during and after strenuous athletic activity.

PureSport Workout replaces lost fluids and electrolytes. It delivers fuel during exercise for more energy and improved performance plus the added protein enhances recovery.

PureSport Recovery has been formulated to aid recovery after exercise by accelerating the replacement and storage of muscle fuel and helping muscles to repair.

PureSport Workout - Train StrongerDehydration is one of the major causes of poor performance in athletes. A loss of 2% body weight due to dehydration can cause a decrease in performance of 8-10%. Combine this with the depletion of muscle glycogen and performance can drop by as much as 50%.

UsageThe table below illustrates the amount of PureSport recommended per hour of exercise according to body weight and exercise intensity. For best results, PureSport Workout should be consumed chilled in the hour preceding the start of the session and then periodically during the workout at intervals of 15 to 20 minutes. Environmental conditions should also be considered as exercise intensity will increase with increased temperature and humidity. In a recent survey we discovered that 9 out of 10 athletes started training sessions in a dehydrated state, leading to decreased performance.

PureSport Recovery - Recover Better Failure to provide the body with the building blocks to refuel and repair muscles from hard training can have a detrimental effect on an athlete’s ability to perform at their peak. An ability to back up, maintain training load and poor adaptation to the training stimulus can also lead to poor performances on competition day.

Refuelling muscles within the first 20mins post exercise has been shown to provide the greatest benefit to athletes’ recovery. Delaying this by even 2hrs means the body could take up to 72hrs to recover.

PureSport Recovery helps the body get into the recovery zone quickly to bounce back better after strenuous physical activity. It promotes recovery after exercise by accelerating the replacement and storage of muscle fuel (glycogen) both in the affected muscles and the liver. competition - Race FasterEntering the competition arena, for events lasting 30 minutes or longer, with less than 100% fuelled muscles can mean two things – reduced performance and disappointment.

One of the prime goals for all athletes in the days/week prior to competition is to ensure maximum GLYCOGEN stores both in the muscles and liver. Glycogen is the muscle fuel of choice for the body to perform intense exercise over an extended period of time. Glycogen is primarily formed from the breakdown of the carbohydrate you eat which is converted into glucose and stored in the muscles and liver.

Through training the body learns to better utilise fatty acids as an energy source sparing glycogen for when you need it most – picking up the pace, surging hills and finishing fast. Through regular training and sound nutrition, the body learns to store more glycogen so you can be stronger for longer.

To ensure Glycogen levels are at their maximum, use PureSport Recovery after each session in the days/week leading up to your event. PureSport Recovery taken immediately after these sessions allows the body to overcompensate and store the maximum amount of glycogen possible. PureSport’s unique blend of carbohydrate and protein ensures that quality carbohydrate is delivered to the muscles used in your training session.

It is important to note that muscle glycogen cannot be used to maintain blood glucose levels. Therefore as the liver is depleted of glycogen, the body will become increasingly hypoglycaemic (low blood sugar) inducing fatigue and decreased performance.
