P r o f i l e o f T e c h n i c a l E x p e r tEngr. Moh Shew Chong graduated from University of Stratchclyde, Glasgow, UK, with BSc. in Electrical &

Electronic Engineering (1st Class Honour) in 1980 & was presented with the IEE Prize Award for his outstanding academic

performance. He began his engineering career at the National Electricity Board (NEB), Ipoh, followed by 7 years of service in

NEB’s training institute (ILSAS) in Bangi. As a Training Engineer, he was involved in identifying training needs, development &

conducting training courses for engineers. These courses covered design & construction of LV/HV overhead lines, aerial

bundled cables (ABC), underground cables, substation equipment, cable fault location & testing, & distribution relays &

protection.

From September 1990, Engr. Moh was transferred to the Distribution Engineering Department, in Tenaga Nasional Berhad

(TNB). He was entrusted with the task of evaluating & recommending new technologies & methodologies to further enhance the

reliability & efficiency of the distribution supply system. He had introduced several transient outage reduction techniques for

33kV overhead lines, new design of HV aerial bundled cables (ABC) to mitigate premature failures, new concept on mechanical

protection of underground cables, VLF (Very Low Frequency) testing & Partial Discharge Mapping of cables in TNB.

In March 2003, Engr. Moh was appointed as the Chief Engineer of TNB Distribution, Selangor responsible for the planning,

construction, operation & maintenance of the 33/11kV electricity supply infrastructure in Selangor. From 2005 till his retirement

in 2008, he was promoted to be the Chief Engineer (Region 1), which covers the States of Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur,

Selangor, Putrajaya/Cyberjaya, Negeri Sembilan & Johor.

Engr. Moh had once served as the Secretary for the ASEAN Technical Working Group on Standardisation. He had also actively

participated & presented many technical papers in international conferences such as CIRED, CICED, CEPSI, AFRO-ASIAN, &

Distribution 2000 during his working career.
