advance product news 2/2015 | Digitalization in Industry
Digital Enterprises
On the way to Industrie 4.0
been practicing systematically for years. This approach goes
far beyond digital security measures, as it also means imple-
menting physical defense strategies. Optimally combined,
the physical and digital measures provide sustainable pro-
tection against the growing threat of cybercrime.
The new IEC 62443 standard and the IT Security Act that was
passed by the German federal government are good guide-
lines for putting such strategies into practice. Structured
security mechanisms, from password use to continuous
monitoring, enable secure and individualized adaptation to
the protection requirements of the digital factory.
Siemens supports users with a three-stage service to achieve
maximum protection for industrial automation plants: assess-
ment (stage 1), execution (stage 2), and management (stage 3).
Security system assessments focus on analyzing weak
points, gaps, threats, and risks in general. The execution
phase includes security training, developing the corre-
sponding strategies and procedures, and implementing
technical security measures. Continuous monitoring of the
implemented measures and detecting and resolving inci-
dents are the main activities in stage 3.

Manufacturing companies can only increase their
efficiency if they support the digitalization of their
processes throughout the entire product and pro-
duction lifecycle and interconnect them closely. The many
variants must thus already be digitally reflected in the
product design phase – that is, within the software itself. For
example, it must be possible to smoothly and easily exchange
product data between the product lifecycle management
(PLM), manufacturing execution system (MES), and automa-
tion software. This requires new software architectures that
have the necessary interfaces and enable data exchange.
Siemens is pursuing this goal with the Digital Enterprise Soft-
ware Suite, using software, communication systems, and
security concepts and solutions, as well as digital services,
to address all four cornerstones of the digital transformation
of industrial processes.
Defense in depth – protecting the digital factory
The networking of industrial machines, plants, production
units, and factories increases the pressure on operators,
systems integrators, and automation specialists to protect
the digital factory from threats. This can be achieved with
the concept known as defense in depth, which Siemens has
Industry currently faces the
challenge of increasing product
individualization and, thus, of
having to offer products withmore variants, while also
keeping unit costs at the same
level. This feat is only possible
with an end-to-end digital value
chain. However, digitalization
also creates the need to protect
production plants and know-
how.

Siemens Cloud for Industry
Open cloud platform for digital service business
Siemens Cloud for Industry is an important part of Siemens’
Digital Enterprise strategy. Clients include machine manu-
facturers that are able to use the platform to develop and
offer new digital services. Thanks to the readily available
machine data, they are able to monitor their machine fleets
all over the world for service purposes and to reduce
downtime.
The new Connector Box of the open Siemens Cloud for
Industry platform plays a key role here. The Connector Box
is a Simatic IPC-based cloud gateway that enables easy and
secure capture of machine and system data and their trans-
mission to the cloud. Data from the controls and drivesystems of a wide variety of suppliers are captured and then
Digitalization has found its way into many industries
and sectors. It increases efficiency and helps in
optimizing processes. Siemens offers products for the
entire lifecycle – from the planning phase to service
and maintenance.

made available for evaluation on the platform, which uses
SAP HANA Cloud Platform technologies. In the future, this
functionality will also be integrated into the Siemens port-
folio of industrial communication products. Thanks to pow-
erful web services for analysis, such as Visual Analyzer and
Fleet Manager, users can assess and optimize machine and
system states. They can also use Siemens Cloud for Industry,
which is designed as an open ecosystem, to develop web ser-
vices themselves. These can be used as a foundation for their
own digital services, such as predictive maintenance, energy
data management, and resource optimization.

Simatic controller portfolio
The right kind of automation
for every application
All the controllers in the Simatic portfolio offer optimum en-
gineering efficiency in TIA Portal and comprehensive diag-
nostic options, can be networked with different communi-
cation technologies, and have an innovative design for easy
installation. They also have integrated functions such as
Security Integrated, with know-how and access protection;
Technology Integrated, with functions such as motion con-
trol and PID control; and Safety Integrated, with commonhardware for standard and safety requirements.
Furthermore, Simatic Controller are the innovative solution
for every individual range of applications. The Basic Control-
ler Simatic S7-1200 is particularly suitable for small machines
that face cost pressure and that require high precision and
networkability. The Simatic S7-1200 communicates e.g. via
Profinet, Profibus, AS-Interface, IO-Link, and CANopen.
Remote solutions are also possible with telecontrol. The first
controller with a compact design on the market, the S7-1200
is available as a failsafe version as well.
The Advanced Controller Simatic S7-1500 satisfies speed and
communication requirements, as it is clocked and uses theMedia Redundancy Protocol (MRP). This makes it suitable for
midrange to high-end machines and plants. Thanks to its
high storage capacity and speed, it has enough power to
meet future demands.
The Distributed Controller is used in distributed architectures
and series machines that have little space available – for ex-
ample, small switching boxes. It is based on the powerful
Simatic S7-1500. The Distributed Controller can be extended
with the I/O modules of the Simatic ET 200SP.
For the first time ever, the compact Simatic ET 200SP Open
Controller combines the functions of a PC-based software
controller with visualization, Windows applications, and cen-
tral I/O modules in one compact device.
The Simatic S7-1500-based Software Controller is operated
independently from Windows and thus guarantees high soft-
ware availability.

Siplus CMS1200 for Simatic S7-1200
Monitoring mechanicalcomponents
LOGO! CMK2000
Flexible building
communications
With the new LOGO! CMK2000 communication module,
LOGO! 8 can be easily used as an intelligent controller in the
KNX building automation system. The communication mod-
ule is linked to LOGO! 8 via Ethernet, which means that the
entire hardware set-up of the LOGO! can be used with KNX:
24 digital inputs, 20 digital outputs, 8 analog inputs, and
8 analog outputs. Inexpensive standard sensors and actua-
tors can be connected to these LOGO! inputs and outputs.
Integrating LOGO! into a KNX system makes projects more
flexible. Up to 50 communication objects can be configured,
irrespective of the input and output points. LOGO! applica-
tion programs run independently from KNX. It is also possi-
ble to process signals from KNX sensors and control actua-
tors from the KNX system. In the KNX system, LOGO! can beused as a master or a slave to synchronize time and date.

To increase plant availability and therefore productivity, po-
tential error sources must be detected early as a preemptive
measure and be taken into account when drawing up the
maintenance plan. The Siplus CMS1200 condition monitor-
ing system is now available for the Simatic S7-1200 to mon-
itor mechanical components. Significant changes – for ex-
ample, as a consequence of wear and tear – can be detected
early, and problems can be remedied as they arise, before
they can cause any more damage.
As part of the Simatic S7-1200, the condition monitoring
system is integrated into the automation group with the
TIA Portal engineering framework. Four IEPE vibration accel-
eration sensors and one rotational speed sensor can be
connected to one SM 1281 module of the CMS1200. Up to
seven SM 1281 modules can be used per CPU. The SM 1281
includes the necessary analysis software, allowing the re-
ceived signals to be easily evaluated and saved to the mod-
ule’s own internal storage. The signals can be analyzed
based on parameters, and frequency-selective analysis is
possible for exact damage diagnosis. It is also possible to
record the development of trends.
New features
• Condition monitoring with Simatic S7-1200
• Early detection of mechanica l damage with condition
monitoring in TIA Portal
New features
• Communication module to connect LOGO! 8 to theKNX building automation system
• Configuration of up to 50 communication objects
via KNX
• Abilit y to use LOGO! for time synchronization either
as a master or a slave in the KNX system
The SM 1281 is parameterized and diagnosed based on
parameters in TIA Portal; the frequency-selective diagnosis
occurs via a web browser. If an even more detailed analysisis required, the signals can also be evaluated with the CMS X
diagnostics software tool. This enables the monitoring of
gear units as well, for example.

• Two new buffer modules for increased availabil ity
• Faster commissioning and troubleshooting
Sitop PSU8600
Even higher versatility and availability
The Sitop PSU8600 power supply sys-
tem has been complemented with
more base units, buffer modules, and
additional functions. The 40-A basic
device is now also available with only
one output, and there now are twocompact 20-A versions available: one
with a width of 80 mm and one out-
put and one with a width of 100 mm
and four outputs of 5 A each. If a
fourth expansion module (CNX8600)
is added, the power supply unit can
have 20 outputs. The outputs of the
base unit, as well as those of the ex-
pansion modules, can be set to have
a broader voltage range, of 5 to 28 V,
eliminating the need for external
power supply units for special volt-
ages.
Users can activate and deactivate the
integrated web server easily with a DIP
switch on the base unit, which makes it
easy to read out operation and diagnos-
tic data with mobile devices such as tab-
let PCs, smartphones, or notebooks, aswell as speed up commissioning and
troubleshooting.
Two new BUF8600 buffer modules that
are based on high-capacity, double-layer
capacitors (so-called UltraCaps) allow for
longer bridging times during power fail-
ures. With a load current of 24 V and 40 A,
the 60-mm-wide buffer module buffers
4 seconds, and the 125-mm-wide buffers
up to 10 seconds; the buffer times increase
with decreasing load currents. By integrat-
ing up to two buffer modules into the sys-
tem, buffer times of up to 80 seconds at
10 A load current are possible, which is
usually enough to safely shut down a
PC. The Sitop PSU8600 is the first power
supply unit that can be fully integrated
into Totally Integrated Automation (TIA),
which considerably simplifies projectplanning in TIA Portal and Step 7, as well
as configuration and operation. The inte-
grated Profinet interfaces make available
large amounts of operating and diagnos-
tic information that can be evaluated
with Simatic S7 and visualized in WinCC.
To speed up the integration of user pro-
grams, standardized S7 function blocks
for Simatic control systems and preas-
sembled WinCC faceplates can be down-
loaded free of charge.

advance product news 2/2015 | Integrated Drive Systems
Aservo–geared motor always needs the appropriateconverter to operate. The highly dynamic Sinamics
S120 single- and multiaxis drive and the Simotics
S-1FG1 servo–geared motor are a perfect team not only
because the servomotor, gearbox, and converter are per-
fectly matched, but also because the combination offers
substantial advantages for engineering, commissioning,
and integration into automation systems. With its ample
integrated functionality and scalable number of axes, the
Sinamics S120 can be used for numerous demanding motion
control applications. Tailored solutions for increased produc-
tivity and flexibility can be implemented with high-perfor-
mance individual and coordinated multiaxis drives with
vector or servo control. The electronic nameplate of the
Sinamics S120 and the Drive-Cliq system interface provide
automatic configuration of drive systems, enabling faster
and fault-free commissioning. Thanks to prefabricated
motion connect signal and power cables, the components
can be connected easily and reliably.
Dynamic and precise
The new Simotics S-1FG1 is part of the servo–geared motor
series for dynamic and precise motion sequences that can
be used in a variety of applications, such as palletizers; rack
retrieval systems with lif t, traction, and fork drives; and aux-
iliary drives for conveyor belt systems, metering pumps, orflying saws. With four compact gear variants and finely grad-
uated transmission ratios, it is easy to find the ideal drive for
each application and mounting position. Depending on the
type of gear and size, helical, bevel, parallel shaft and heli-
cal worm gearboxes, with up to 25 transmission ratios, are
available. The servo-geared motors are highly efficient and
have little torque play. The pinion that is plugged into the
motor shaft has a small diameter and therefore allows for a
high transmission ratio in the first gear step. This enables the
use of two-step instead of three-step gears in extreme
ranges.
Integrated approach, greater efficiency
The servo drive system is an integral part of Totally Integrated
Automation (TIA). This means that the customer receives
everything from a single source. The integrated system ap-
proach also means that a great deal of time and effort can
be saved in the engineering and commissioning process, and
automation tasks can be implemented efficiently.

Simotics reluctance motor and Sinamics converter
High dynamics,high efficiency
The Simotics reluctance motors are part of the Simotics
GP/SD motor family for converter operation. The change in
the torque of reluctance motors is caused by the standard
Sinamics G120 inverter, which has a special vector control
system for reluctance motors. It can be easily commissioned
with motor codes. One advantage of the highly dynamic re-luctance motors is their energy efficiency: they are signifi-
cantly more efficient in the partial-load range compared to
asynchronous motors with the same power. The low intrin-
sic moment of inertia enables short ramp-up times. Reluc-
tance technology is used primarily in applications with
pumps, fans, and compressors, as well as for conveyor tech-

wear-free, reduce unplanned downtimes of plants and
machines, and thus increase plant availability. Depending on
the types, the hubs of the metal bellows couplings are made
of aluminum or steel; optionally, stainless steel versions are
also available. The metal bellows are always made of stain-
less steel. Due to the true running properties of the cou-

They also have a high power density and low restoring forces,
resulting in only slight bearing loads in the coupled ma-

Backlash-free couplings are the modular interface with reli-
able power transmission between the motor and the drive
machine. They also compensate for offsets between the cou-
pled units. The backlash-free, breakdown-resistant, and vi-
bration-damping Bipex-S couplings are characterized by high
power density and electrically insulating properties that pro-
tect from leakage currents. They enable high positioning ac-
curacy and reduce system wear thanks to lower peak loads
and vibrations. Depending on the coupling size, they are
equipped with hubs made of either aluminum or steel. The
damping properties can be varied with elastomer cam rings
with different degrees of hardness. The backlash-free Bipex-Scouplings have only a low moment of inertia and require lit-

The new Simatic RTU3030C can be flexibly used in a
wide range of applications – for example, in water and
wastewater management, agriculture, or stock con-
trol. For instance, it can be used to detect leaks and monitor
pumping stations and agricultural irrigation systems or to
remotely control the filling levels in tanks. The remote ter-
minal unit is designed for autonomous operation and draws
its power from batteries or a solar panel. Users can access
key process data, such as level, flow rate, fill level, tempera-
ture, and pressure, via mobile communication from remotemeasuring points. The Simatic RTU3030C has a rugged
design and can be used in harsh environments (–40°C to
+70°C). An external protective enclosure with IP68 type of
protection ensures that it will function reliably even in the
event of flooding.
Highly reliable autonomous system
As plants with remote terminals usually extend over vast
areas, there is often no communication or power-supply
infrastructure at the measuring points. The autonomous
Simatic RTU3030C can be operated with up to two high-
performance batteries or one accumulator (which can be
combined with a solar panel). The RTU records the measured
values of the connected sensors and transmits them to a
control center. If necessary, the unit can also be used with a
12- to 24-V DC power source. Any combination of power sup-
plies can be used. The measured values are transmitted to
the control center via mobile communication using the
integrated UMTS modem, with either a secure OpenVPN con-
nection or an encrypted e-mail. The transmission can be
time-triggered or event-driven and can be configured indi-vidually for each process value. The RTU3030C immediately
sends a notification via text message or e-mail if the set
threshold values are exceeded, so that the maintenance staff
can respond quickly. In addition to the communication mode,
the RTU3030C also supports the sleep, update, and mainte-
nance operating modes. In sleep mode, the device requires
less than 2 mW of power, ensuring reliable operation for
many years. Users can switch the RTU3030C to maintenance
mode for servicing, enabling them, for instance, to change
the batteries without losing data.
Easy configuration, flexible connection
The Simatic RTU3030C can be easily configured using a stan-
dard web browser. Users can conveniently change the con-
figuration or update the firmware from a remote location.
With the TeleControl Server Basic software package, the unit
can be connected to the Simatic PCS 7 or Simatic WinCC con-
trol system. It is also possible to connect the unit directly to
Simatic PCS 7 TeleControl or Simatic WinCC/TeleControl with
the IEC 60870-5-104 and DNP3 telecontrol protocols.
Because it supports several telecontrol protocols, it can be
connected to any SCADA system.

Sinema Remote Connect centrally manages the tunnel con-
nections between control center, service engineers, andinstalled plants using virtual private networks (VPNs). VPN
tunnel connections are based on OpenVPN standard certi-
ficates and encrypted with up to 4,096 bits. Access to
machines can be granted from one centralized location with
the management platform’s easy user-management func-
tion. Participants can be activated or blocked manually, so
that plant operators also always have full control over who
accesses their company network.
An additional advantage of Sinema Remote Connect is its
protocol-independent communication. This allows users to
employ different applications for remote maintenance – for
example, the Simatic Step 7 programming software – as
soon as the connection to the machine has been established.
The machines are connected to the management platforms
via wireless communication, DSL, or existing private network
infrastructures. For this purpose, Siemens offers a compre-
hensive portfolio of industrial routers from the Scalance
series – for example, the Scalance S615 and the Scalance
M876-4 mobile wireless router. The routers can be easily
configured via Sinema Remote Connect with an autoconfig-
uration interface.

advance product news 2/2015 | Industrial Communication
With its new V13 Sinema Server soft-
ware release, Siemens is simplifying
the monitoring of industrial networks.
All Profinet and Industrial Ethernet
devices within a network are automat-
ically detected and can be visualized
in a web browser. Version 13 can also
directly read out information from
S7-300/S7-400 Simatic controllers and
connected Profinet devices. This ensu-
res that the maintenance personnel
always has a clear overview of device
conditions and connections.
Sinema Server V13
Efficient monitoring of industrial networks
The device data can be evaluated with
SNMP (Simple Network Management
Protocol) or using Profinet mechanisms
by directly accessing devices. This
allows for precise and non-proprietary
evaluation of device identification data
and diagnostic data. The obtained net-
work diagnosis can be seamlessly
integrated into HMI/SCADA systems
by using OPC and web mechanisms.
To prevent future errors, the collected
data can be saved in a long-term
archive and can also be subsequently
displayed in reports. The overall status
of larger networks (up to 100 servers
with up to 500 nodes) that are moni-
tored by several servers can be cen-
trally displayed using the Server Over-
view function. Changes to network
components are automatically reported
to the user in an event e-mail, allowing
the recipient to quickly respond to pos-
sible errors or eliminate current errors.
Scalance S615 security module
Flexible protection for automation networks
The new, cost-effective Scalance S615
security module protects industrial net-
works and automation systems against
unauthorized access. With its five Indus-
trial Ethernet ports, different network
topologies can be protected via firewall
or a virtual private network (VPN), and
security concepts can be implemented
in a flexible manner. The user can con-
figure individual firewall rules for up to
five variable security zones. The two
security measures – firewall and VPN –
can be combined based on individual
security requirements. The automatic
configuration interface allows easy
integration into the Sinema RemoteConnect management platform for con-
figuration. Scalance S615 has several
configuration, management, and diag-
nostics options, with WBM (web-based
management), CLI (command line in-
terface), and SNMP (Simple Network
Management Protocol). Used as a DHCP
(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
server and client, the device can be
used in any VLAN (virtual LAN) security
zone. The new security module has a
key-switch function at the digital input
for the controlled establishment of a
tunnel connection.
The security modules of the Scalance S
series have been especially designed to
meet the requirements of automation
technology – for example, a rugged
design for industrial environments,
easy installation, and a redundantpower supply for minimum downtime
in the event of failure, plus the option
to exchange devices quickly with a
C plug.
New features
• Automatic detection of Profinet
and Industrial Ethernet devices
• Network condition transpa rency
for simplified monitoring
• Readout of information from
Simatic Controllers
New features
