    cHildHood pastand prEsEntChildhood is universal; however,no two childhoods are the same.Family life, education, wealth,war, health and cultural inuencesshape the experiences ofchildhood. This tour highlightsten objects that reect Britishchildhood over the past 300

    years ranging from 18th centuryswaddling bands to 21st century

    computer games.

    talKs for studEntsA selection of talks, led by amember of our education team,are available for student (post 16)groups studying CACHE, history,post-graduate teacher trainingand NQTs. Sessions can bebooked on the following themes:Childcare and the VictorianNursery (30 minutes); Childrenin Sickness and Health (30 or 60minutes); How Children Learnin Museums (90 minutes); andLearning Outside the Classroom(30 minutes).

    tHE VictoriancHild at HomEDuring Queen Victorias 64 yearreign, enormous changes occurred

    to the lives of children broughton by new education and labourlaws. This tour compares the livesof children from the early andlate Victorian periods as reectedthrough childrens fashion,furniture, and playthings. Thedolls house collection provides asnapshot of Victorian family lifeand shows the impact of socialand technological changes onthe growing middle classes.
