Adriana Bastos Conforto, MD, PhD

● Graduated in Medicine from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas and specialized in Neurology from the Universidade de São Paulo Medical School. PhD from the Universidade de São Paulo Medical School. Researcher at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. Lecturer and head of the Stroke Group, Clinical Neurology Division, Hospital das Clínicas, Universidade de São Paulo. Visiting professor at Cleveland Clinic.

● Graduated in business administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas, he obtained his Master’s degree in Economics from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas and PhD degree in Economic History from the Universidade de São Paulo. Specialized in Social Security from Harvard University. He held several positions in Brazilian public agencies and universities, and participated in the development of the Brazilian Public Health System SUS, Sistema Único de Saúde. In 1996, he moved to Washington DC to work at the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank, where he took part in several international projects and initiatives related to health care accreditation, patient safety, health economics, health reform, strategic planning and health priorities. Member of international health committees, such as the Patient Safety Committee, coordinated by the World Health Organization and the Joint Commission International.

He is currently Executive Director and Secretary General of the Dutch Topsector Life Sciences and Health, after filling the position of Director of TNO’s Innovation Area Healthy for Life from 2008-2014 and that of associate professor in Utrecht University Medical Center from 1995 onwards. As executive director of the Topsector LSH Foundation, builds together with the Topsector’s governance and with the Ministries of Economic Affairs, that of Education and Science, and that of Health and Welfare sustainable national Public Private Partnership Programs in the life sciences and health and, accordingly, reorganizes stepwise the Dutch LSH Knowledge and Innovation Infrastructure to enlarge its national and international societal, economic and scientific impact. On behalf of the Dutch Royal Society of Physiotherapy he holds a chair in Maastricht University from 2013 as professor in Physiotherapy and physical functioning of people with chronic pathologies.
