Wai Kru CeremonyAssumption University’s Wai Kru Ceremony isorganized annually at the beginning of eachacademic year, on a Thursday in September.

The meaning of Wai Kru is for students to payhomage and express gratitude to their teachers.Assumption University is in high support of thisfine Thai tradition. The ritual of the Wai Kru isseriously performed making the ceremonymeaningful for both sides - the teachers and thestudents. The Student Organization and 56academically outstanding students werehonored and awarded by Rev. Bro. Dr. BanchaSaenghiran, Rector Magnificus, for their socialresponsibility and high achievements.

The ceremony was presided over by the RectorMagnificus and well attended by Rev. Bro. Dr.Prathip Martin Komolmas, President Emeritus,Rev. Bro. Dr. Amnuay Yunprayong,Vice Rectorfor Moral Development Education, senioradministrators, faculty members and allfreshmen.

The Opening of Pan Am International Flight Training Center (Thailand)

September 24, 2014 marks an importantmilestone in aviation training in Thailand as ANAHoldings, NOK AIR, and Assumption Universitysigned an MOU for trilateral cooperations of the threeshareholders in aviation trainings for students andinterested parties/individuals with the new simulationflight training center named “Pan Am International FlightTraining Center (Thailand)” situated in AssumptionUniversity Suvarnabhumi campus.

With the capital amount of B270 m and 15-year project duration, the Training Center will start itsoperation in October 2014 onwards. Key objectivesof the Pan Am Flight Training Center (Thailand) include:(1) to support a practical training for AeronauticalEngineering students, (2) to position as a top flighttraining center in AEC, and (3) To initiate and maintaineffective collaboration and cooperation with NOK

AIR, ANA Holdings, and Pan Am Thailand forsuccessful professional training in aeronauticengineering programs at the Faculty of Engineering,Assumption University.

At the opening ceremony, President ofAssumption University Rev. Bro. Bancha Saenghiranf.s.g. PhD delivered a welcome speech, followed bycomments from Piya Yodmani, Deputy CEO of NOKAIR, and Gary Anderson, CEO of Pan Am Thailand.

English for All By Learning Support Center

Learning Support Center, Student Affairs offered a 7-week English Communication Skill DevelopmentProgram with the name “English for ALL by Albert Laurence” for 6 years. The objective of the program is todevelop confidence in English communication and to encourage and support self-directed and lifelong learningthrough the 7 steps to English Proficiency among AU freshmen.

This year ‘English for ALL 2014’ started on September 8, 2014. Rev. Bro. Assumption University StudentsWon 2nd Prize Award at Taiwan Forum

Taipei, Taiwan, September 20, 2014.Tourism students from Assumption University ofThailand received the 2nd place award for theirpresentation at the annual Destination MarketingContest held on the sidelines of the 2014 AsianMICE Forum at the Taipei International ConventionCenter. Eighteen schools from six countriescompeted at this prestigious event to promote theirdestination to the meeting industry, emphasizing thetheme of sustainable tourism. The annual event issponsored by the Taiwan Bureau of Foreign Tradeand organized by the Taiwan External TradeDevelopment Council.

Scott Michael Smith, Course Coordinatorfrom Assumption University’s Department ofHospitality and Tourism explains, “ Mr. Tran TanPhu (Thomas) and Mr. You Chan did a fantasticjob representing our University as they promotedBangkok to over 2,000 travel and tourismexecutives.” These future leaders designed and builta trade show booth with limited resources andprepared a presentation that was judged byrenowned event management experts. LievenBertels, Director of the Sydney Festival, who judgedthe competition, said “It was refreshing to seeThomas and Chan approach this project with a levelof maturity that is absolutely on par with leadingtourism professionals. It’s easy to predict a brightfuture for these Assumption University students.”

Prof. Scott thanked the Tourism Authorityof Thailand for having been a big help in supportingAU team to compete with other universities everyyear. “The international composition of our teamadded an extra element this year as Bangkok is ouradopted home. Visitors to our booth wereimpressed as we are not locals but we can proudlypromote Thailand, offering a unique perspective andknowledgeable advice to business travelers toBangkok”, added Scott.
