Macromedia Dreamweaver now known as Adobe Dreamweaver is the software used for web development.

Adobe Dreamweaver is a

proprietary web development tool developed by Adobe Systems.

among professional web designers. * The latest version is Adobe Dreamweaver

CS6.

HISTORY OF DREAMWEAVER In October 1996, Macromedia decided to create a new web page editing tool.

Kevin Lynch led the effort, spending several months assembling a small team and talking with web designers about the challenges they faced building websites with current set of tools.

Based on this customer insight, Kevin wrote document called the ‘19 Dreams’ about what an ideal web editing tool would do.

Therefore, the project was called ‘DREAMWEAVER’.

O Integrated CMS Support: One of the features of Dreamweaver is its Integrated CMS support. CMS stands for Content Management Systems. CMS support that is featured in Dreamweaver allows us to access any and all webpage related file.

Intelligent Coding Assistance: Dreamweaver makes it easy to write clean code. Dreamweaver comes with PHP code hinting that allows us to learn about popular PHP methods and functions.

Comprehensive CSS Support: Dreamweaver allows us to display the CSS box model without needing to know how to code CSS manually.

Editing: It features a good mix of visual editing and textual editing which works well for both the Web Author and one has XHTML experience.

For creating static or dynamic websites from a very simple four page sites to a complex full corporate mega site with databases and animation.

It is used for making an array of graphic and web design software.

It can also be extended with Dreamweaver Extensions” to customized add to tools and features.

USES OF DREAMWEAVER IN MULTIMEDIA

Dreamweaver can be used to insert multimedia objects like:

Adding sound: Several different types of sound like MP3, WAV,MIDI etc. can be added to webpage with the help of Dreamweaver. The audio control will not be shown in Dreamweaver. All files are inserted as plug-ins and are represented inside Dreamweaver.

USES OF DREAMWEAVER IN MULTIMEDIA

Adding Video: Videos can be added to web page in different ways and formats. Videos can be downloaded to user or it can be streamed so that it plays while it is downloading. The video formats commonly used are AVI,MPEG & MOV. The most common streaming formats for transmission of videos are RealMedia, QuickTime and Windows Media .

• Shockwave Movies: Shockwave, the Macromedia standard for interactive multimedia on the web is a compressed format that allows media files created in Macromedia Directory to be downloaded and played by most popular browsers.

O FTP Tool bar: Manages the uploading and downloading of files.

Using Dreamweaver Creating document: A new

document can be created using Dreamweaver.

USING DREAMWEAVER Editing Page Properties: Pages can be

edited using these properties. From page properties screen, default text, link and background properties of the pages can be edited.

USING DREAMWEAVER Formatting Text: Default text

formatting should be defined on the page properties Windows.

Creating a Table: Table allows us to layout content and display content in a grid structure. Tables can be created using Table Window in Dreamweaver. Table structure should be displayed below the heading.

USING DREAMWEAVER Inserting an Image: Before the image can be

added, the page needs to be saved. The image will be placed where the cursor will be located. When the image is clicked, the Properties Panel will display the properties for the image.

USING DREAMWEAVER Creating Links: The links can be

created in Dreamweaver using hyperlink window. First, the text is created and that text is made into a link using hyperlink window.

Other additional formatting can be done.

Changing Link Colors: Link Colors and style properties can be modified here.

ADVANTAGES OF DREAMWEAVER

It can manage and update websites effectively.

It is easy to upload using FTP.

Users of Dreamweaver can customize the look of software to match their requirements.

DISADVANTAGES OF DREAMWEAVER It has a retail price about $600 which is hundred of dollars more than similar programs.

It has a confusing interface that may seem intimidating to new users.

It requires 1.8GB of hard drive space.

Blogs can’t be made using Dreamweaver and neither can things like Wikis.
