ReportMy issues relate to Acrobat X Pro downloaded and installedthrough Adobe Application Manager. Anyway, I have been on thephone yesterday with a Tech guy from Adobe (nice guy he was too)and he got me to deactivate (through Photoshop) then start upAcrobat and activate again using my Adobe ID. This seemed to workUNTIL I log out and back into Windows 7 ... this morning Acrobat didthe same thing (shut down after about 10 seconds) I had to repeatthe deactivate/reactivate license process again. Is Adobe aware ofAmrita's advice and will this apply to the type of installation/license Iam using? I will keep you informed. It would be good if we the usersand Adobe the providers work together to resolve this sooner ratherthan later...

ReportIn my case, I toggled write permission, commented (#) alllines mentioning adobe.com, and was able to pick up where I left off.I had previously deactivated the license through Photoshop; I wasable to sign in after the hosts change, then activate, then license, then cycle through photoshop/illustrator a couple times and finallyacrobat.

Reportjmacougar ...did you do a reinstall since you did thedeactivate and reactivate last month...otherwise there is no way thiscould repeat. The workaround gives you a permenent license ofAcrobat. Unless you have blocked internet access....please check yourhost file settings.

ReportUmmmm... It didn't last for me. I had to repeat the processafter another 30 days! --- just how do YOU define 'permanent'?! Again... Protecting yourselves from criminals at the expense of yourpaying customers is something you should be ashamed of! This isnot the first time I've had to deal with activation issues with Adobesoftware!!! (It's at least the third time!) And it's insulting andinexcusable to do this to your paying customers!!

ReportI am sorry that you had to repeat it....we can do a connectsession if you want so that I can figure out the problem at your end.

But the workaround is going to let you use acrobat forever unless youhave blocked activation or else maybe you have reinstalled the suiteagain. By permenent I do mean permanent which is as long as youhave the product on your machine.Let me know your timezone and we can sync up.

ReportThe last time this happened I ended up uninstalling andreinstalling the entire Design Premium Suite before finding thissolution. Yesterday's occurrence was a little different in that I had aPDF open. Acrobat locked up and then shut-down while I wasscrolling through pages. I tried to re-launch and nothing. Rebootedand still nothing. Deactivated and reactivated and it worked again. My machine was connected to the Internet the entire time.

Hei! Today same thing happened to my desktop Win 7 64 machine.Acrobat X pro just disappeared while I was reading pdf and didn'tstart again. Deactivation and activation helped. Just over a week agoI had to do that process last time. I did follow both times AmritaChakrabarti's workaround. After all, it don't seem to be very "foreverwithout trouble"-trick... Pekka Nurmela

Neitherthis solution nor any of the myriad others on the web work for anylength of time on my Windows 7 64 bit machine. Acrobat stoppedlaunching at the 30 day mark, and while I can get it to start with thissolution it always fails again within days. I would think a company the size of Adobe would be embarassed

And yesthis happened to me, although because of system crash my 30 dayclock didn't start until June 26. My question is why if Adobe has had my email and registration forthe last 15 years, they couldn't send out an email to all registeredusers alerting them in a timely fashion to their problem that theycouldn't fix. This only cost me an hour hunting for a solution because alot of mycollegues were further up the food chain and had to gnash theirteeth for days trying figure out the issue.

No I didnot. Only thing I've had to futz with in recent memory was your fixfor my Acrobat not launching. Which I repeated yesterday to get itfunctioning again. So, honestly, I have no reason to think it won'thappen again in 30 days. My hosts file: # 127.0.0.1 localhost# ::1 localhost That's it.

2.Launch a regular CS6 product other than Acrobat orFlash Builder (for example: Photoshop, After Effects,Premier Pro, InDesign, Flash Professional, Illustrator,Dreamweaver.) I don't have any of these products. I only have Acrobatstandard. I checked my hosts file and don't have anyentries. Is the only option to reinstall? If so, I need toprovide my IT department with my license number. How do I get that if I can't open the application?

I amhaving the same issue on Windows 7 x64. I purchase CS6 Design andWeb Prem from Adobe's website and everything has been workingfor a while and it seems that after the last update, or it may havebeen about 30 days Adobe Acrobat no longer opens. my otherAdobe products such as PS and Dreamweaver work just fine. I haveinstalled the latest updates, nothing is in my hosts file, I haverepaired Acrobat, I have removed and re-installed Acrobat, and noneof this has worked to resolve this issue. This needs to be addressedASAP - I paid for this software so I should be able to use it!!!!

Ifigured out why Acrobat wouldn't start for me. I also had Acrobatreader installed. There is some kind of conflict between Acrobat Proand Reader. Once I uninstalled Reader, Pro starts up without aproblem.

Next try - clear cache, restart computer andtry to reactivate the progam. It would have been nice if Adobe hadadvised customers - I have wasted so much time on this and eventhough I know my way around computers I have to admit that I

haven't kept up with the technology and a lot of the inner workingsare pretty foreign to me these days. Surely you shouldn't need aComputer Sciences degree to be able to use Acrobat? Just saying ...And now I've discovered that it deactivated ALL my registeredAdobe software and I cannot reactivate any of it ... I mean you are****** me, right? I just spent a fortune (that I didn't have) on theseprograms and now I have to get some technical geek to go throughmy computer so that I can get it all happening again? SERIOUSLY????Not Happy ...

ReportI'm seeing this failure with Lightroom on my Mac. Fortunately, ten seconds with Instruments told me what was wrong. Instead of doing product registration correctly using a privilegedhelper, they try to write files directly into /Library as the currentlylogged-in user. Unfortunately, the permissions for /Library keepgetting tightened down (because apps should specifically *not* bedoing what Adobe is doing!), and thus the folders their installerscreate no longer inherit a group writable bit for the admin user inMountain Lion and newer (or maybe even Lion and newer). To fix this problem, run Terminal, and type: sudo chmod g+w "/Library/Application Support/Adobe/XXXXX" where XXXXX is the name of the Adobe app (in my case, Lightroom),then press return. Redo your registration, and it should "just work",but you *must* be logged in as an admin user. Otherwise, you'llhave to set the permissions even more permissively. If that doesn't work, you can figure out what file Adobe's app isfailing to write (without producing any user-visible errorshame onyou, Adobe, for not checking result codes and telling the user whatfile your app failed to write, not logging the error in the system log, etc.) as follows: 1. Run the app that's causing problems. Get as far as the screenwhere you enter your serial number.2. Run Instruments (part of Xcode) and choose the "File Activity"template.3. Click the pop-up menu that says "Choose Target" and choose theAdobe app in the "Attach to Process" submenu.4. Click the record button, then enter your admin password whenprompted.5. Switch back to the Adobe app and enter your serial number.6. Look at the list of files and find the one where the file descriptor islisted as -1. This is the descriptor that you get when a file cannot beopened for any reason.7. Fix the permissions on the folder that contains the file, or addmissing folders, or whatever, as needed to make it so that Photoshopcan write to that file.

ReportAmrita - thanks, this has been very helpful. One additional note being that in my case, I wasn't asked for theserial number on re-activation. I was a little concerned at first as Ihave a volume licensing account and a Creative Cloud license underthe same Adobe ID but having checked with Adobe Support thecorrect license was used to re-activate the software. And Acobatworks again!

ReportWell, this is just astonishing. Here it is December 10, onemonth after I installed CS6 and today I'm having the same problemwith Acrobat like everyone else. Just quits upon launch. And Adobewas apparently unable to fix this. This thread started back in June!I tried to delete cashe.db and that worked for a moment, but now it'sback to the crashes. The $1000 I spent on this upgrade are the worst investment I evermade. Nothing works better than in CS3 and a lot works far worse, like this unbelievable drag.I should charge Adobe my hourly ratetrying to solve this problem that would actually be theirs to solve.

ReportRunning Win7x64 Ultimate and Acrobat X Pro v10.1.8. Had thesame problem where it simply wouldn't open. I think there was anerror a few days ago, though I quickly dismissed it, and now it justwon't open and no error appears. Thanks to one of the posts, I wasdirected to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AdobePCD\cache\cache.db. I ranamed it to cache.db.bak and Acrobatlaunched fine. It told me that it was a trial version with 32,768 daysremaining (nice trial) though it gave me the option to enter the serialnumber, which I did, and now all is well. Thank heaven for Google.

It took care of Acrobat that wasnot opening and I couldn't open pdf either. Thank you!! And I hopethat this won't become an issue that we have to deal with every 30days:-)Once again, thank you.
