4. Eligibility for Application

International applicants whose parents are not citizens of Korea should meet all of the following

requirements (A and B);

A. Academic Standard

(1) Undergraduate Freshman Application

Those who are graduates (or expected graduates) of high school or those with an equivalent

educational background;

(2) Undergraduate Transfer Application

(a) 2nd year transfer

Those who have completed (or are expected to complete) at least one year (two semesters) in a

degree program at a four-year university or another Bachelor’s degree program;

(b) 3rd year transfer

Those who have completed (or are expected to complete) at least two year (four semesters) in a

degree program at a four-year university or another Bachelor’s degree program.

◆ Important Notes for Eligibility Requirements

▪ Nationality is based on the time of application.

▪ Korean citizen who has dual citizenship cannot apply.

▪ Applicants (and their parents) of Korean origin must submit documents to verify their loss of

Korean nationality.

▪ A Taiwanese applicant with one parent of Taiwanese nationality is classified as an international student

for application purpose

▪ In case that applicant’s parents get divorced, the applicant’s nationality eligibility is determined

by the nationality of legal father/mother (Must submit evidential document to prove the applicant

is in family relation with one of the parent by law).

▪ Sogang University only accepts curriculum of foreign schools legally approved by the country where it

belongs.

◆ Important Notes for Transfer Applicants

▪ Completion: Refers to the completion of required GPA or academic proficiency that the applicant’s affiliated

university holds. Applicant will need to confirm whether or not he or she have satisfied all the conditions

before applying. Admission will be revoked if the applicant turns out to be disqualified for the conditions.

▪ Applicant will need to submit a university policy document (or documents) that states the necessary credit

for graduation, completed semester, and standard of grade calculation of the applicant’s affiliated university.

If the relevant facts are on the official transcript, the applicant does not need to submit the university policy

document(s).

▪ When no clear standard of completion is provided, the criteria below will be applied;

- Criteria of 2nd year transfer: those who have taken at least 1/4 credits for graduate in a degree program at a

four-year university

- Criteria of 3rd year transfer: those who have taken at least 1/2 credits for graduate in a degree program at a

four-year university

B. Korean Language Proficiency

Applicants have to satisfy with one of the followings.

(a) Applicants who have the 3rd level or higher certificate from the Korean proficiency test (TOPIK) or;

(b) Applicants who have completed level 3 or higher of Korean curriculum at Institute of Korean

Education of Sogang University or;

(c) Applicants who have completed level 3 or higher of Korean curriculum at an educational institution

of the university in Korea.

◆ Important Notes for Korean Language Proficiency

▪ Korean Language Proficiency is a requirement for application but is not added to the total score.

▪ Applicant must submit one of the listed certificates proving Korean Language Proficiency within a period of

submitting documents; otherwise the applicant will be disqualified for the admission.

f. Document approving applicant’s Korean Language

- Language test score proving the [Korean Language Proficiency]

- Copy of ID card (applicant, parents)

- Copy of passport (applicant)

- Copy of applicant’s foreigner registration ID card (Residents in Korea only)

- Certificate of Facts Concerning the entry and exit (Applicant who has record of entering Korea

only)

- Certificate of family Relationships (Documents to verify the relationship between the applicant

and the parents)

ex. U.S.A : Birth Certificate/ Japan : Certified copy of Family Register/ China : 居民户口簿)

- Certificate of Loss of Korean Nationality (Applicant and their parents who has lost their Korean

Nationality only)

- Certificate of Finances (More than USD 15,000, Effective for 30 days, Successful Applicants

only)

ex. Bank Balance Sheet, Bank Transaction Report, etc.

7. Optional Documents [Form 3]

a. Certificate of admission from other universities and score reports of recognized tests

(SAT, 高考, IB, AP, baccalauréat etc.) and prize records etc.

b. Certificate of language proficiency test

(English, German, French, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish etc.)

c. Awards received during high school

d. A letter of recommendation

◆ Important Notes for Documents

▪ Those who are accepted to the university and are expected graduates should submit a high school diploma

before the day of enrollment.

▪ Application for admission is received through online only, post is not accepted.

▪ Original documents should be submitted in principle. If they are unavailable, however, copies must be

authorized by the originating institution or by Sogang University before they are submitted.

▪ Put your name and application number on the bottom right corner of all the documents

▪ Documents which are not in Korean or English should be accompanied by a notarized Korean translation.

▪ Family relationship document should verify foreign nationality of the applicant and his/her parents and also

should verify the relationship between the applicant and his/her parents.

▪ In the case of transfer application, the documents from the former school should be submitted.

▪ Those who are accepted to the university should submit an Apostille certificate regarding the official

graduation certificate, official transcript and official certificate of attendance from the country’s government

agency or from the Korean consulate (before the day of enrollment).

▪ Admission will be revoked if the application form of submitted documents(translation included) turn out to

be of false information or if the applicant used dishonest means to be enrolled in the university. Students that

have already enrolled in school will also be revoked if any dishonest means in the process of application is

discovered.

▪ Admission to the university may be revoked before or after the enrollment of the school if the applicant

turns out to be disqualified from an eligibility issue.

▪ All submitted documents will not be returned to applicants.

8. Important notes for all applicants

A. All details recorded in documents should be precise.

If there is any false information on the documents, admission of the applicant may be revoked. Applicants should take full responsibility for any disadvantages due to the mistakes or omissions of the application documents.

B. In the place for resident registration number, fill in the alien registration number. If the alien registration number is not yet given, fill in the blanks as the example below.

(ex: he who is born in 1995. 3. 1 : 950301-5000000/ she who is born in 1995. 3. 1 : 950301-6000000)

C. Domestic contact address should be listed which may get to the applicant immediately. The university is not responsible for any consequences that may result from incorrect contact information on the application or when the applicant failed to receive contact from the university.

D. Applicants who are accepted to more than one university through international admission need to enroll in one university only. If the student registered at two or more universities at the same time, all the admissions will be revoked.

E. If applicant decided not to register for Sogang University, Fee is refunded by Sogang University’s refunding regulation.

F. If applicant decided not to register for Sogang University, must notice Sogang University

admissions office(02-705-8621) before the enrollment. G. After the completion of application, (from the point of settlement) cancellation or the return of

application fee will not be accepted. Applicants who are unable to take the exam due to issues that are not of their own responsibility; natural disaster, disease, or change of the exam date, may get partial or all refund of their application fee by turning in a refund application and other documents. (In the case before the completion of application full refund except commission fee will be given)

H. Admission to the university may be revoked before or after the enrollment of the school if the

applicant turns out to be disqualified from an eligibility issue. I. Omission of required documents is excluded from admission. Applicants may be required additional documents when it is difficult to ascertain a fact through

documents that are submitted. J. Documents that have to be submitted offline can be sent by post or submitted in person at Sogang

University admissions office.

K. Admission will be revoked if the application form or submitted documents (translation included) turn out to be of false information or if the applicant used dishonest means to be enrolled in the university. Students that have already enrolled in school will also be revoked if any dishonest means in the process of application is discovered.

L. If the names on the submitted documents are different, the applicant will need to turn in a document verifying their identification that is issued by the country’s court or the diplomatic office.

M. Admission scores and evaluation processes are strictly confidential.
