A.ADMISSION POLICY

1. Number of Seats:

The administration of Sharif Medical and Dental College, Lahore admits total of 100

MBBS and 50 BDS candidates of the following three categories from all parts of the world on

merit amongst their own category. The tuition fee rates of each category are different.

i. Local Pakistani candidates (85 MBBS and 42 BDS seats): born, raised and

educated in Pakistan

ii. Overseas Pakistani candidates (10 MBBS and 5 BDS seats): Children of 

expatriate Pakistani families; carrying Pakistani passports who have passed the Higher 

Secondary examination of a Pakistani Board, or its equivalent, as a student of a school

located overseas.

iii. Foreign Nations candidates (5 MBBS and 3 BDS seats): Carrying foreign

 passport who have passed the pre-medical F. Sc. equivalent examination from outside of 

Pakistan.

The candidates who have passed ( i ) Pre medical F. Sc. with Physics, Chemistry,

Biology and English with minimum of 715 / 1100 marks (without marks of Hafiz e

Quran) or ( ii ) Qualifications Equivalent to pre-medical F. Sc. i.e. A Level and

American High School with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. Such

candidate should submit Equivalence Certificate of IBCC (Inter Board Committee of 

Chairmen) along with a complete official transcript of the results. or 

A candidate, who has appeared in F.Sc. (Pre-Medical) Part-II or Equivalent

Examination and awaiting result must submit/provide ( i ) F.Sc (Pre-Medical) Part-I

attested Marks Certificate and ( ii ) a certificate issued by the Head of the Institution

where he/she is admitted stating that he / she has appeared in F.Sc. (Part-II) or 

Equivalent.

3. Submission of Application:

Candidates (Local and overseas Pakistani) who have been declared successful having

60% marks for admission in medical colleges by University of Health Sciences, Lahore should

submit their applications duly completed in all respects on prescribed form obtainable from

college secretariat along with a processing fee of Rs. 500/- (Local) and Rs.700/- (Overseas) in

the form of cash/pay order in favour of Sharif Medical and Dental College, Lahore. Foreign

nation’s candidates should route their applications through the Pakistan Embassy in their 

country and send an advance copy direct to college secretariat, Sharif Medical and Dental

College Lahore along with pay order of US $ 50 as process fee.

4. Procedure of Selection:

All applicants are short-listed within their own category by Admission Board, SMDC,Lahore. Final selection is made strictly on merit considering marks in Matriculation / Equivalent

Qualification, F. Sc. / Equivalent Qualification and MCAT with great care and decisions are

made in accordance with a defined procedure. The selection decisions are final, irrevocable and

non-negotiable. The college authorities are not bound to explain the reason for their decision to

the applicants, their parents, guardians, relatives or friends.

5. Confirmation of Admission:

The list of selected candidates is displayed on the college secretariat notice board and

internet with the direction to pay the college dues within a specified date. The confirmation of 

admission is only on payment of College dues. If the college dues are not paid within due dates,

the name of the defaulting candidate will be stuck off from selected list and that seat will be

offered to the next candidate on the waiting list.

Besides the annual college dues, University of Health Sciences dues ( i ) university registration

fee (Rs. 10300/-), ( ii ) academic and administrative charges (5.5% of tuition fee), ( iii ) Pakistan

Medical and Dental Council registration fee (Rs. 500/-) and Pakistan Red Crescent Society

contribution Rs. 50/- are also payable.

2. Detained Students: 

A student who fails in all subjects (100%) in both annual / supplementary examination

and have to study for an additional year to appear in university examination will pay full

tuition fee for the session. Those who fail in less subjects will pay fee according to the

  percentage of subjects they have to study to appear in university examination.

Examples: those who have to repeat one out of three subjects will pay 35% of the total

tuition fee and those who fail in 2 subjects will pay 70% of the total tuition fee).

C. PAYMENT OF FEES

1. Tuition fee and other charges:

i. payable in advance before the start of the academic year.

ii. payment in cash or installments not accepted.iii. paid at Habib Bank, Campus Branch by a notified date by deposit challan

obtainable from Account Section, Sharif Medical and Dental College, Lahore.

2. All figures quoted in the fee rates are subject to charge without notice.

3. Admission and tuition fee once paid are not refundable.

4. The dates for payment of the fee are firm and are notified in the beginning of year on

notice boards.

5. The college administration does not take responsibility of sending reminders to

 parents/guardian to pay the college dues.

6. Parents are requested to pay college dues (Tuition fee and funds) before the due date.

Delayed payment of college dues after the due date carries:-

i. A fine of Rs. 50/- per day for the first 30 days and Rs.100/- per day for next

30 days.

ii. Non-payment of fee after 60 days of due date (without valid reason) the name

of student will be struck off from the college rolls and readmission on college roll is

after payment of readmission fee of Rs.25,000/-.

7. Students will not be allowed to appear in university examination unless all dues are fully

cleared prior to the examination registration deadline of the university examination.

D. HOSTEL CHARGES

- Additional New Hostel Buildings are under construction and expected to be completed in

December 2010.

- Availability of hostel accommodation is subject to vacancies at the time. Priority is given

to female candidates from outside Lahore.

- Hostel charges are paid in advance on a six-month basis.

- Hostel Charges are as follows:

• Hostel Security Rs. 20,000/- (Refundable at the time of leaving hostel)

• Monthly mess charges Rs. 5500/- per candidate.

• Rent Rs. 3000/- per month along with separate charges for electricity and

servants.

• Use of electricity appliance like fridge, air-conditions, iron etc. requires prior 

 permission from Principal, SMDC, Lahore subject to additional electricity charges.

E.CODE OF CONDUCT

Cheating, social misconduct or infractions of College rules, stealing, willful destruction

of College property, use of physical force against other students, patients or staff, use of drugs,

 possession and use of weapons, inciting disturbances and strikes, repeated absence without

  permission from classes, clinics, laboratories will be referred to the College Disciplinary

Committee which after investigation will recommend appropriate action. It may result even in

dismissal of student from the college roll.

Students are expected to attend all classes, demonstrations, practical and clinical teaching

sessions. Attendance records of every student are properly maintained by the respective teaching

departments and students’ affair section of college secretariat and a copy of students’ attendance

record of each trimester is posted to parents/guardian for their information and feed back from

them.It is mandatory for the students, as per College and University of Health Sciences rules

to have at least 75% of the total class attendances to be eligible to appear in University

 professional examinations. The admission forms of those students whose class attendances are

less than 75% of the total are not forwarded.

Students should not expect grant of leave of absence during working days except in case

of an emergency. All leave applications must be addressed to Principal in writing for sanction.

Students are expected to take care of College / Hospital property and any damage caused

will be charged in full to the students/parents.

The College is not liable for any loss of valuables during a student’s tenure at the Sharif 

Medical and Dental College, Lahore. Students are requested to safeguard their own belongings.
