NEWSLETTER NO 10 2016 7 APRIL 2016
Lord, help me prepare for the holiday season this year without turning it into a long
laundry list of obligations, deadlines and expectations. As these days of preparation and celebration unfold,
keep me alert to your presence. Make me aware of the chances I have to bring your love to those around me,
especially those most in need. Amen.
How quickly another term has passed and I have enjoyed working so closely with all of the staff, students, parents and families within our school. I hope that all families have a wonderful and enjoyable school vacation. School re-commences on Tuesday 26th April, 2016, at 8:20am. (Children can wear sports uniform while swimming lessons are being conducted. Full Winter School Uniforms are to be worn from the commencement of Week 3, 9th May.) TERM 2 DATES A list of current dates for Term 2, 2016 have been sent home with today’s newsletter. Please check through these carefully and note that these dates are correct at the time of printing this newsletter. Some changes may occur due to circumstances beyond the school’s control. Thank you for understanding. ARCHBISHOP COSTELLOE TO VISIT ST ANDREW’S CHURCH – SUNDAY 1st MAY – 9:00am MASS All children and families form St Andrew’s School are invited to attend the 9:00am Mass on Sunday 1st May with Archbishop Timothy Costelloe. We hope that all families will be able to attend this important event in the school and Parish. FIRST TERM PARENT PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM I hope that all families enjoyed looking through and discussing their child’s workbooks over the last week. It was good to hear about all of the positive interactions that were held and that some children even made goals of achievement, with their parents, for the remainder of the year! SWIMMING LESSONS All families with children in Year 1 - 5 should have paid for their swimming lessons. Swimming lessons commence on Tuesday 26th APRIL, the first day back next term. Please ensure that you are prepared. (Children can wear sports uniform for the first two weeks of school next term due to swimming lessons.)
FREE DRESS DAY – TOMORROW – END OF TERM –GOLD COIN DONATION – When I Grow Up I Want to Be ….. Children are invited to wear appropriate free dress (no thongs or offensive t-shirt slogans, etc.) the theme being “when I grow up I want to be…… for a Gold Coin Donation to Catholic Charities – Project Compassion. This includes nut bars, nut snacks, peanut butter etc. Please remember that our school remains a nut free school to assist in the safety of a number of our students who have severe nut allergies. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
HEALTHY LUNCHES Thank you to those parents / families who continue to provide their children with healthy lunches and snacks. The school canteen also attempts to provide heart health ‘green foods’ with amber foods only being sold on selected days. The canteen also does not sell RED foods at all.

P&F NEWS BULB FUNDRAISER REMINDER All order forms and monies need to be back by Tuesday 26th of April to count towards the fundraiser for the school. All orders will be sent off together and the bulbs will delivered to the school labelled and ready for collection at the beginning of May.
AFL Margin Lottery Congrats to Daren and Luke Ford for taking home the prize last week following the Docker’s 26 point loss to Gold Coast. This week’s Derby on Saturday between the Dockers and the Eagles should give us our next winner. Good luck everyone!
Mother’s Day Stall and Raffle As previously mentioned our very popular Mother’s Day stall will be back during the first weeks back in Term Two. We will be looking for volunteers to help man the stalls so please if you can help at all let us know. We are also busy trying to secure prizes for our Mother’s Day raffle. If any family business would like to donate a prize to the raffle please get in touch with any of your P&F Exec, or leave a message at the school office. As a taster, the following prizes have already been secured for some lucky winners: An overnight stay at the Mindarie Marina Hotel and a gift voucher from The Source Bulk Foods in Ocean Keys. Thank you to both of these local businesses for their generous support of our school. Tickets will be sent home in Term Two.
This year we celebrated Harmony Week by displaying a banner on the fence at the kiss n ride over the week. The year 6 Cultural Ministry was involved in painting the letters of Harmony Week in different flags from around the world.
Students were also encouraged to decorate a leaf that described something about their culture. These leaves were displayed on a large tree in the library.
Harmony Day, 21 March, celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
It is a day for all Australians to embrace cultural diversity and to share what we have in common.
The central message for Harmony Day is that ‘everyone belongs’, reinforcing the importance of inclusiveness to all Australians. Harmony Day, 21 March, celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.
