Prelude to San Jacinto Battle

• After an unsuccessful fight at the Alamo between Mexico and Texas, all the Texans became frustrated by the fact that they still haven’t earned freedom, so the Battle of San Jacinto occurred. That was when Texas earned freedom, and became an official country, which later on joined the United States.

The Battle of San Jacinto

The Attack Plan

A few days earlier, the Texans moved to the San Jacinto monument near Houston because they noticed that the Mexican general Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana was resting at San Jacinto. The Texans then burned down the bridges on both sides of the monument, so there was no escape for the Texans or the Mexicans. The Texans headed out from the tree line and fired to cannons from the center.

End of the Battle

• At the end of the battle, Sam Houston was shot in the ankle but still alive. The Texans started looking for Santa Ana. Once they found him, all the Texans wanted him to be killed. Sam Houston wanted him alive so the Mexicans will not get angry and start another war. After Santa Ana’s surrender Texas officially became a country.
