There are three main types
of ADHD: Hyperactive-
Impulsive, Inattentive, and
Combination. The diagnosis
for the certain type depends
on what symptoms the
individual shows the most of.
One with the hyperactive-
impulsive type may show
certain impulsive behaviors
including interrupting and
be disorganized and
forgetful. They usually are
distracted easily and have a
difficult time following in-
structions. A person with
the combined type would

ADHD is diagnosed by a licensed health professional . There is a series of tests
that must be done to ensure the child is diagnosed correctly. The symptoms
should be present in at least two settings before being diagnosed. The AAP rec-
ommends any child with academic or behavioral problems with symptoms suggest-
ing ADHD by screened.
Diagnos i s o f ADHD
ADHD can be treated in 3 ways: learning coping skills, behavioral training,
and medication. These can help reduce the symptoms; however ADHD can
not be treated. Also the parents and school teachers should help work
with the student to ensure that his or her needs are being met. Almost
half of the people with ADHD usually "grow out of it" or have lesser symp-
toms by the time they are adults, although some show no change.
