HOW IS ADHD DIAGNOSED?

There is no single test used to diagnose attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. ADHD is diagnosed after a person has shown some or all of symptoms of ADHD on a regular basis for more than six months. Health care providers, such as pediatricians and child psychologists can diagnose ADHD. The diagnosis involves gathering information from several sources, including schools, caregivers, and parents. The health care provider will consider how a child's behavior compares with other children the same age.

CAN ADULTS HAVE ADHD?About half of children with ADHD will continue to havesymptoms as adults. However, adults are often more able to control behavior and cover difficulties. These adults may have failed at school, work, or relationships. Many have had multiple traffic accidents. For some adults, a diagnosis of ADHD can bring a sense of relief.
