The CalAmp Energy Management & Control package includes everything a utility needs to deploy an eective load-control program, leveraging existing assets while providing a future-proof path forward with CalAmp’s Energy Gateway Unit.

CalAmp’s Energy Gateway Unit (EGU) allows utilities to manage demand response, outage monitoring, power quality monitoring, load monitoring and theft/tamper detection. EGU allows Utilities to manage their peak loads by remotely cycling electric devices such as HVAC, water heaters, electric heat, irrigation pumps, and to oer customer engagement services with the support of Zigbee devices like Smartplugs and thermostats.

The EGU is based on a two-way communications architecture allowing the aggregation of multiple smart energy systems into one system. The Gateway and associated CalAmp’s Device Mgt (Colt ) provide a congurable system for advanced load control, and supports Cellular or Paging communications.

The EGU mounts to the outside of the customer’s home or commercial/business building, providing a communications gateway and allowing control of multiple loads, such as air conditioning, strip heat, hot water heaters or pool pumps. The EGU can measure and report the exact load prior to curtailment, providing granular verication of the load reduction. The EGU allows executing cycling proles with congurable shed times and duty cycles running for any duration. Control events can be interrupted. In addition to controlling Direct Loads, the CalAmp EGU supports communications with Zigbee enabled devices on the Home Area Network, such as Smart Thermostats. Finally, the EGU reports detailed metrics including voltage, current as option and active power on a near real time basis.

• Cost eective two-way remote controllable & programmable (with Cellular version)

• Visual indicators as option

• Full Remote test functions

• Local override and opt-out-Secondary Option

• Devices can be pre-programmedper customer specications with CalAmp remote management tool

• Verizon Wireless Network

• Cellular Power Provider Functionality

• Events in progress may beinterrupted with a smooth ramp-out across the population of devices

• Monitors, measures and veries(MM&V) actual load curtailed

• Two-way, near-real timecommunications

Key Benets

• Overrides of the current schedulecan be performed at any time with a temporary command

• Reports issued to the utility on adaily basis with verication that the device has operated as commanded

• UL listed

• Staggered on and o times

EGU FeaturesApplications

• Electric Vehicle: EGU has two way cellular communications to receive signals from the electric utility.Allowing the utility to relieve electric demand or allowing homeowners to charge an electric vehicle now or later, may reduce electric rates.

• Commercial & Industrial: EGU is ideal for factory and commercial load control applications. Thetwo-way RTU gives the plant manager the opportunity to reduce load or have specic equipment shut o for a duration selected by the utility.

• Participation in Utility Demand Response and Load Control Programs: EGU allows both homeand commercial customers to participate in a wide range of Utility or ISO Demand Response Programs by automating equipment or load shutdown and monitoring and verifying load drops to maximize participation and revenues.

• Access and control devices from remote locations: EGU provides customer access to controldevices from remote locations providing exibility managing load control, peak usage and overall energy usage and spending.

Zigbee• Radio: IEEE 802.15.4 compliant ZigBee

• Band: 2.4 GHz, supports 16 Zigbee channels

• Smart Energy Prole V1.0, upgreadable to V2.0

Cellular• EVDO Rev A Dual-Band 800/1900 MHz with

fallback to CDMA 1x Rev 0 and CDMA 1xRTT

Security• VPN (SSL V2, TLS v1) SSH server, SCP, SFTP

Certication• FCC Part 15; UL; Applicable Carriers.

General Functions• Size: 9”H x 8”W x 4.5”D

• Equipment Control: up to 4 120V/240 VAC NC relays;
