FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT, MR. RANDY PAGE
I Was Managing My World but my World Keeps Changing
We live in a time where the world spins quickly and there are many, many groups
attempting to influence our opinion, habits, and focus. As adults, we may be struggling to
keep up with technology, the digital world, changes in our own lives, and the politics of our
nation. Take a few minutes to think of the information the young people in your life are
dealing with and how they are attempting to process all the information they come into
contact with day in and day out. Here are a few focus points for parenting and guiding
children in our world:
• Engage and discuss current issues and the world we live in with your kids. Your kids
value your opinion and life experiences and you can appreciate their perspective and skills
as well, but only if you take time to connect.
• Think about safety first as you approach issues such as technology, driving, drugs, and
violence with your young person. More than anything in the world, we want our kids to be
safe and caring. Your child will appreciate your caring and will feel a level of comfort
entering into a conversation with you based on caring.
• Acknowledge that all parties involved are doing the best they can with the information
and skills they have acquired. We are all leaning all the time and must be prepared to adapt
to our ever changing world.
• Set limits and stick with your plan. Moderation is a concept that can apply to many
issues that we deal with on a daily basis.
Veterans Day is coming up quickly and Freeman will be hosting a program on the 9th of
November at 9:15 in the South Gym. Please come and join our school and community as
we recognize Veterans Day at Freeman!
Freeman’s second “Community Forum on Digital Safety” will take place in early
December. Look for information on this forum as Thanksgiving approaches. There is
information at this forum for parents and children in grades kindergarten through 12th
grade. If you use a tablet, computer, or cell phone, we have information to share and
welcome a conversation with you and your child.
Be thankful for who you are and all we have! I am thankful for our school and our
communities, as there is so much to be proud of surrounding Freeman Public Schools.
Staff, thank you for all the work you put in and for being willing to do the right thing for
kids every day! Patrons, thank you for your support and for being willing to share your
children with our district. We enjoy them every day and love to watch them grow! I am
also thankful for my family and friends, because I know without them I am nothing but
alone!

STATE EXTERNAL VISIT IN NOVEMBER
Staff and community members have been busy
working towards the Freeman Public Schools
External Visit on November 26 and 27. The
external visit offers our school the opportunity to
show what we have accomplished the past five
years. It is also a time of reflection as we look
towards the next five-year cycle. The purpose of
the external team is to provide an objective view
and professional advice regarding our school goals
and plans. They assist us in reviewing what has
occurred in the past five years and guide us, through
their observations and comments, as we set our
goals and plans for the next five years. A copy of
their written recommendations will be provided to
the school and to the Nebraska Department of
Education.
TITLE 1 READING Title 1 Reading is a supplemental reading
program available to students in Freeman
Elementary. Qualification for Title 1 is determined
by a student’s individual scores on DIBELS, NeSA,
and/or NWEA assessments. Classroom
performance is also a consideration.
Title 1 service supports classroom teaching. It
does not take the place of the lessons in the
classroom; instead, it builds on the skills taught in
the classroom and gives the student more time to
work on the basic skills needed for classroom
success. Title 1 classes meet 15-30 minutes daily
four days a week.
A Title 1 Reading meeting for parents was held
on Monday, October 22. For questions regarding
Title 1 Reading, contact Principal Erin Sieh or Title
1 teacher Teri Nieveen.
FREEMAN FIRST GRADE VISITS PUMPKIN PATCH
First Grade classes from Freeman Public School visited Korner Pumpkin Patch on Friday Oct. 19th in the
afternoon. Jill Jobman discussed with the first graders how pumpkins grow. She read stories to the students about
pumpkins and pumpkin seeds. The first graders learned the smaller the pumpkin the more seeds there will be. The First
Graders went on a Scavenger Hunt to look at all the different kinds of pumpkins on the farm. To end the visit, First
Graders tried pumpkin cookies. We had a great time!!! First Grade teachers are Mrs. Laura Ideus and Mrs. Lisa Riha.
READ FOR THE RECORD 2018 On October 25th, Freeman Elementary participated in Read for the Record. Sponsored by Jumpstart, this is
a day all over the world that people read the same book on the same day to bring about awareness of building
early literacy skills for all children. This
year’s book was Maybe Something Beautiful
by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell.
Elementary classes were paired up to read the
story together. To follow along with the
theme of the book, each student is creating a
tree, house, bird, or flower for an elementary
collage.

JUNIORS, RESERVE APRIL 2ND ON YOUR CALENDARS! All juniors will be taking the ACT on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. This is a state requirement; the ACT is the state test for
juniors. Students are not to schedule appointments or college visits on this date. This is the date designated by Nebraska
and ACT to take the paper/pencil form of the ACT, and there is only one makeup date, April 24. Every junior is required
by the state to take the ACT, with no chance of avoiding it. Freeman Public Schools will be the host testing site for our
students. So, Juniors, keep April 2nd open! More details will be coming.
