First off, I would like to thank Ms Goh, the principal of Wesley Methodist SchoolIpoh, for giving us her endless support both morally and physically. Also very specialthanks to Mdm Philomena, Additional Mathematics teacher for 5 Grace, for lending ahelping hand to us during the times when we most needed it.

Next I would like to thank my parents for giving me wonderful ideas on how to fill my project work and providing solutions when I face difficulties. Additional Mathematics is one of the compulsory subjects for SPM science stream candidates.All of the students would have to carry out a project work based on a topic given and must besubmitted in three weeks time.

The objectives of carrying out this project are:

To apply and adapt a variety of problem-solving strategies that we had learnt to solvethe projects problems.

Improve our thinking skills. Promote effective mathematical communication. Boost confidence and interest towards Mathematics through solving various type of

problems.

To use Mathematics as a language to express mathematical ideas precisely Stimulate and enhance effective learning. To develop a positive attitude towards Mathematics which makes lessons more fun,

interesting and more meaningful.

Progression : a number of things in a series

In mathematics, there are 2 types of progressions. Arithmetic progressions andgeometric progressions.

Arithmetic progression , sequence of numbers such that the differenceof any two successive members of the sequence is a constant

For instance, the sequence 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 is an arithmetic progression with

common difference of 2.

Geometric progression , sequence of numbers such that the quotientof any two successive members of the sequence is a constant

For example, the sequence 2, 6, 18, 54, ... is a geometric progression with common

ratio 3. Similarly 10, 5, 2.5, 1.25, ... is a geometric sequence with common ratio

After spending countless hours, days and nights during my mid-term

holidays to finish this project work and the sacrifices I had to make in

order for this project work to be a success, I specially wrote this out

for my recent developed love for Mathematics.
