STAIRCASE SMOKE EXTRACTION SYSTEMS

A number of conditions must be fulfilled for the SAFETY EXIT system to be effective and practical:

• staircase to be protected by a mechanically supported ZODIC-M smoke extraction system;• staircase to be separated at least by door of grade EI30 and provided with automatic closers

(the staircase must be properly designed and approved by the architect);• a fire safety manual to be prepared for the facility;• a trained security officer's presence to be ensured at the facility – the person must ensure that

the door to the staircase from the fire-engulfed storey is not open after persons on that storey are evacuated (excessive smoke in the staircase will prevent evacuation from lower storeys); the function of the security officer is taken over by the first fire fighter arriving at the scene).

Facilities for which the SAFETY EXIT system is in particular recommended:

The application of the SAFETY EXIT system improves fire safety standard of the building without it being necessary to use additional components of the system and incur any additional financial expenses.

Only after the above conditions are fulfilled may conditional evacuation from the storey above the fire-engulfed storey be permitted.

Additional information:

• ZODIC-M with air supply system adaptable to varying conditions (variable air volume fans);

• complete system (contains all staircase pro-tection elements);

• smaller susceptibility to external factors (wind);

• automatic control of constituent devices and option to control other elements of the sys-tem (e.g. lift shaft smoke extraction, smoke stop lobby air supply, etc.);

• option to interact with other building protec-tion systems (e.g. FAS);

• practical computational algorithm and tech-nical support for designers

Intended Use:

ZODIC systems are intended for low-rise and medium-rise buildings and, under certain condi-tions, also for high-rise buildings, but may also support other spaces (such as lift shafts), for which national regulations require or permit the application of smoke extraction systems.

Primary functions of the ZODIC systems in the building

• fire detection and alarming (automatic)• staircase smoke extraction (automatic)• comfort ventilation – staircase ventilation (optional, manual)

Benefits of using ZODIC systems

• higher human safety level through higher building protection standard• option to extend escape routes in the building (ZODIC is an automatic smoke extraction system

triggered by the smoke detection system)• an alternative to the most effective staircase smoke control systems (so-called overpressure systems).

Certificates and technical approvals:

ZODIC smoke and heat extraction units hold the required technical approvals issued by CNBOP-BIP (Scientific and Research Centre for Fire Protection – National Research Institute) and other certificates.

The systems comply with the laws applicable to smoke extraction systems (Technical Conditions, Article 270(1) and (2), Dz.U. [Journal of Laws] No 75, item 690, as amended):

• smoke-free staircase below the fire-engulfed storey and quick smoke venting after its supply has been cut off,

• appropriate compensation ensured through continuous supply of external air.

Effective and efficient staircase smoke extraction

ZODIC systems are complete units for smoke and heat extraction from staircases. Ensure suitable level of human safety and appropriate conditions for evacuation, fire suppression and rescue activities.

The systems are based on research conducted in actual fire conditions ("Safe Evacuation" project – www.bezpiecznaewakuacja.pl).

Moduł zasilająco-sterujący MZS

Stacja pogodowa SPZ*Umożliwia automatyczne zamknięcie klapy dymowejlub wyrzutni ściennej, gdy system pracuje w funkcji przewietrzania i wystąpi opad atmosferyczny lub silny wiatr.

(lub klapa dymowa z listwami pomiarowymi CSD-1-L) Służy do odprowadzenia dymu na zewnątrz budynku.

Zbiera i przetwarza sygnały z wszystkich elementów systemu oddymiania – steruje systemem w funkcji

zarówno oddymiania, jak i przewietrzania klatki.

Elektrotrzymacz drzwiowy ETD*Utrzymuje drzwi w pozycji otwartej. Po wykryciu pożaru

drzwi zostają zwolnione automatycznie, by mogły się zamknąć i wydzielić strefę pożarową tj. klatkę schodową.

Zespół nawiewny ZNZ(lub wentylator nawiewny)

Służy do dostarczania powietrza kompensacyjnegodo klatki schodowej.

Ręczny przycisk oddymiania POZ

Wyłącznik wentylatora WWZSłuży do wyłączenia mechanicznego nawiewu powietrza na klatkę (przycisk do dyspozycji strażaka kierującego akcją).

Przycisk przewietrzania PPZ*Służy do ręcznego sterowania wentylacją, tj. przewietrzaniem klatki schodowej.

Sygnalizator pożaru SO, SA, SAO*Sygnalizuje obecność pożaru wewnątrz budynku za pomocą światła, dźwięku i informuje o wykryciu pożaru.

Czujka dymu CDZPrzeznaczona jest do wykrywania dymu.

Służy do uruchomienia systemu oddymiania oraz sygnalizuje stany pracy systemu.

Overall features of the ZODIC-M system with mechanical air supply support:• smoke extraction through forced mechanical flow of air through the staircase,• SCD-1-L smoke damper or CDH-F-L wall exhaust louvre as a smoke-extracting component (devices with metering panels),• air make-up by mechanical air supply to the staircase in its bottom part (AFC fans or ZNZ air supply units with variable exhaust flow rate),• limited impact on smoke extraction efficiency of natural events driving the air and smoke flow (owing to the application of mechanical supply).

Overall features of the ZODIC-G gravity system:• smoke extraction from the staircase by using natural flow of air from the chimney draught and

thermal stratification of smoke during a fire event,• SCD_1 smoke damper as a smoke-extracting component installed in the staircase floor slab,• air make-up by automatic staircase door opening, or opening with a CDH wall intake louvre.
