When and Why Add a Date

Dates are added to all monographs in all formats

Dates are not added to serials Dates create unique call numbers

for different editions of a work Editions sit next to each other on

the shelf in chronological order

Special Circumstances

Conferences Add the date of the conference to the

call number, not the date of imprint

Multipart Works Add the date of the first or earliest part

Photocopies or Facsimile Editions Add the original date plus the work

letter “a”
