How to Install Movie Maker 2.6 on Windows 7, 8 and 10

1. How to Add Captions to your videos with Movie Maker 2.6

Special Note: While Windows Movie Maker does not currently provide a feature dedicated specifically to adding captions, it is still possible to add captions to a movie made in Movie Maker using the Title Overlay feature. With this feature, it is possible to adjust the font size, font color and caption positioning, transitions and timings for a movie, video or slideshow. This article provides detailed instructions on how to use the Title Overlay feature to add captions to any project using Windows Movie Maker.

1. After downloading and installing Movie Maker > Click the Movie Maker drop-down menuand choose New project.

2. Click the Add videos and photos button. Navigate to your video and click Open.

3. Open the view menu click the Waveforms button and choose Extra large icons from the Thumbnail size options to see a larger video clip and larger waveform. (this will be important when maneuvering captions)

4. Click on the Home ribbon, start playing the video and stop when there is sound, then finish listening to that chunk of dialog. (about 3 to 6 seconds) Write down that whole sequence. Back up the video to the approximate beginning of the dialog, then click Caption. Any sound that is significant to the viewer needs to be captioned.

5. Type in the text of the 5 seconds of video and adjust the Text duration time accordingly.

6. The text block appears under the film strip and can be moved into place to sync.

7. If the sound is somewhat meaningful to the caption reader and it’s not dialog, place it in brackets.

8. After typing in all the captions, Save project and then Save movie as a movie file or export to One Drive, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo or Flickr.

9. Have fun captioning because….it’s right thing to do!
