Adding and Subtracting Matrices

To add or subtract matrices, you must first enter them in your calculator. To do

this:

1. Press Matrix and the left arrow, so that EDIT is highlighted in the matrix

window.

2. Press 1 to edit matrix 1.

3. Here you enter the size of the matrix – number of rows first, right arrow,

then number of columns.

4. Press the down arrow to enter each value in the matrix.

5. Press the number of each value and enter.

6. Once all values are entered correctly, press MARTRIX and the left arrow.

7. Press 2 to edit matrix 2.

8. Again, enter the size of matrix 2 – number of rows, right arrow, then

number of columns.

9. Press the down arrow to enter the values of each entry.

10. Once the matrix is entered, press 2nd, QUIT.

You may now add or subtract matrices assuming they have the same number of

corresponding entries.

To add:

1. Press MATRIX 1 + MATRIX 2 ENTER

2. The values displayed are those of the resulting matrix.

To subtract:

1. Press MATRIX 1 – MATRIX 2 ENTER

2. The values displayed are those of the resulting matrix.

You can add or subtract as many matrices as you want. Always remember to

enter all values with corresponding letters using the directions above before you

try to add.
