•The group worked directly with a charity in which set them the brief to produce a short film on alcoholism and co-dependency, in relation to form the short film had to last a period of 5 minutes minimal.

•They also choose the following ancillary tasks; Poster and Review. The genre of the production is docu-drama.

Page 3: Addiction analysis

•Within the docu-drama there is an evident inside storyline of the main character, a defined narrative.

•In a way we see a man’s road to recovery in which is supplemented with useful facts and advice on addiction and breaking the “stigma”.

•The script to the production is very strong throughout and gives useful factual information about the issues being raised.

•The level of the acting was well performed and professional, in which brought into context the realities of being addicted without acknowledging it yourself.

•This gave the docu-drama an edge in which it was a definitive representation on reality.

•The use of professionals both at the start of the production and the real GP, enforces the seriousness of the production and that the issue is real. He uses technical terms correctly and gives advice on the matter co-dependency.

•The use of editing and effort put in within this field is effective to the production; particularly the use of black and white in white connotes the emotionless and depressing feel to being addicted.

•In addition the Stigma breaking up illustrates the editors technical skills. The use of sound is effective for the production, it is used well throughout to illustrate the mood of the characters.

•The use of colour at point in which the majority of the screen is in black and white signifies that they can help, they are a “shinning light”. In the wider world there is always help available when your addicted. In addition to this the use of make-up for the bruise looks realistic, so a consideration has been put into mise-en-scene.

SO WHAT ARE THE WEAKNESSESOF THE PRODUCTION ?

•In the first shot of the production there is a blurring of the two women around the edges of their bodies in which the green screen has been removed. This could have been reducedby possibly better lighting when doing the interview with the green screen, or paying greater attention whilst editing.

•The credits appear too quick and fast in which it is hard for the viewer to read, they could be slowed down much quicker to give the viewer a chance to read them.

•In addition to this the black borders in which appear with the name of the characters in e.g. The GP, Dr. Peter Cannon are poorly executed and look scruffy.

•Whilst the music is well suited top the production at times it can become repetitive in which devalues the production, it makes the short film drag on in which is a major disadvantage.

•At some points of the production in which the shot compromises of black, white and colour there are a few issues in which make the short film appear unprofessional.

Grey area, lacking colour

Overall I felt that the short film was effective at its purpose. It was very well constructed with the careful thought of script and shot order.

The use of professional actors and a GP generated a professional looking docudrama in which gave an enlightening insight into the co-dependency of addicted alcoholics.

The short film did however have a few flaws too it but all were minor. Particularly the credits let the production down most and the group had not paid too much relevance to this, they appeared too quickly.

In conclusion the short film gave myself a good understanding of the quality of the production my group will need to match. Of this production I felt that I was mainly able to address the importance of acting and that by using actors in which they know what they are doing can be a major strength.
