Working with Contacts and Prospects
It is useful to have contacts stored within Lawware, in order to quickly find details or to automatically insert into letters and emails if you are using case management.
You can add contacts either by clicking on the new contact button on the toolbar, or by choosing File, New, Contact from the menu bar.

Adding a new contact is the same as adding a client, the main difference is that that money laundering is not required.
Notice that you can mark this contact as a Prospect, i.e. as a potential client.

The list of Prospects are available from the Shortcut bar.
Including a prospect in Lawware can be useful as you can add contact details and also record letters, emails, etc to a prospect, and then later you can convert them to a client.

Next, you would choose to add an individual or company for the contact (or prospect).

Complete the details (as explained in the guide to adding a client) and save.
Note that the contact or prospect status is shown on this screen and you can amend from here.

Once your contact has been saved, you can link them – either at client or case file level.
Open your client or case file and click on the contacts sheet tab.

To add a contact to the file, you would click on the Options button.

Next, you can search for and select the contact you want to link to the file.

Once you select a contact, you will be prompted to add the details that are relevant for that contact for the case or client.
This data can also be shown automatically on letters if you are using document management.
You can change the data labels by clicking in the fields and overtyping – as shown (if you have permission!).

You will see the contacts displayed in the list with their details.
This now allows you to work with these contacts when using document and email management (more detail on this can be found on the guide for Working with Documents).

If you have added a prospect who becomes a client, it’s very straightforward to change the status.
Open the Prospects details and select the client status.
Select Yes (Client) and save your changes. the record will no longer appear in prospects, but will move to the clients listing.
