AdBlue® BY HOYER – FOR A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT!
HOYER-GROUP | AdBlue®
2
On the following pages, you will find comprehensive information about the AdBlue® fuel, a product per-haps insignificant at first glance, but for which there are numerous important criteria for proper use.
In order to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOX) and particulate matter and to meet regulatory requirements for pollution control, most engine manufacturers for trucks, cars, agricultural equipment, the construction industry and the shipping indus-try have decided on the SCR catalytic converter (Selective Catalytic Reduction) as solution for after treatment of exhaust gases – this is where AdBlue® comes to use.
AdBlue® doses are mixed into the exhaust gas stream; the product is heated and splits into ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2). When the nitrogen oxides from the exhaust pipe in the catalytic converter chemically react with the ammonia, the polluting NOX molecules in the exhaust stream are changed into harmless nitrogen (N) and water (H2O). Via SCR technology, the nitrogen oxide emissions are reduced by up to more than 90 %.
AdBlue® is a synthetically produced 32.5 percent urea solution. The product is clear as water, non-toxic, environmentally friendly and easy to handle. AdBlue® is a registered trademark of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA).

The most cost-effective solution is filling your ap- proved tank system with bulk product in your depot. To ensure the purity of the product, AdBlue® is trans-ported in bulk form only in specially approved and tested tankers.
This ensures that the strict requirements of ISO 22241 are met. The tank made of stainless steel, as are all other components that come into contact with AdBlue®. All hose materials and dispensing materials are also made of durable tubing. Our AdBlue® tankers are naturally equipped with cali- brated dispensing units.
The AdBlue® IBC system (Intermediate Bulk Con-tainer) is the ideal supply for operators of smaller fleets or vehicles with low mileage requirements. These containers have a capacity of 1,000 liters and are only available as sealed return deposit containers.
To empty it, specific pump systems are required. Thanks to a special Tri-Sure-System, complete emptying is ensured. For very low annual consump-tion in agriculture and the construction industry, the 210 liter drum is the perfect solution for the vehicle fleet.
Most public fueling stations in Germany have AdBlue® dispensers, but they were built exclusively for the refueling of commercial vehicles. For the refueling of cars and smaller commercial vehicles, we have an innovative product portfolio in our product range: AdBlue® in small containers.
THE OPTIMAL TYPE OF PACKAGING FOR YOUR AdBlue® NEEDS!

AdBlue® tank systems were developed to meet the needs of corporate and city/community fueling stations or public fueling stations. The tank systems are equipped with discharge units, heating, fuel level and leakage sensors as well as a hose reel to meet functional as well as economic desires. Tank systems are available as calibratable
and non calibratable versions – depending on the application.
AdBlue® fueling systems protect the stored material against heat as well as cold. All tank sys-tems are approved by DIBt.
AdBlue®-TECHNOLOGY FROM HOYER – STORAGE, DELIVERY, ASSEMBLY, CONSULTATION!
AdBlue® IS A DELICATE PRODUCT. FOR STORAGE, THE FOLLOWING SHOULD BE OBSERVED: · AdBlue® is ideally kept between 0 °C to +30 °C · AdBlue® must not be exposed to direct sunlight
and should be stored in a cool place · AdBlue® has a crystallization point of -11 °C,
therefore AdBlue® must absolutely be stored in a freeze proof location
· AdBlue® must be protected from dust, to avoid contamination
· Observe AdBlue® storage in accordance with ISO 22241
· AdBlue® must be analyzed before reuse after prolonged storage in seasonal machinery
· AdBlue® must ideally be drained from seasonal machinery in danger of frost, because at low freezing temperatures the reservoir may burst due to expansion.
· AdBlue® may only be stored in approved containers, since decomposition processes of non-suitable containers lead to contamination and catalytic converter damage may occurr.

AdBlue® FOR COMMERCIAL VEHICLES WITH SCR TECHNOLOGY
Any manufacturer offering commercial vehicles with SCR technology in accordance to EURO IV, V or EURO VI standards, requires AdBlue®.
These include in particular · trucks, semis, auto transporters, vans, etc. · Buses of all kinds – from coach to school bus · Pickup trucks · Garbage trucks · Fire trucks · Utility vehicles for passenger transport · Police vehicles, THW and many more
The fueling of these vehicles with AdBlue® is usually done with a separate tank.
AdBlue® CONSUMPTION FOR COMMERCIAL VEHICLES: A generalized statement about the consumption rate of commercial vehicles with SCR cannot be made, since consumption rates depend on varying criteria, such as for example the kind of commercial vehicle, the load, frequency of use, type of journey, head-wind/tailwind, uphill/downhill and more.
All of this has an impact on the amount of consump-tion of the engine and thereby also on the AdBlue® consumption rate. The following rule of thumb can be applied to calculate the AdBlue® consumption:
AdBlue® CONSUMPTION IS ABOUT 4 TO 6 % OF THE DIESEL CONSUMPTION
Example:A truck consumes 17 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers and covers a distance of 3000 km.
17 liter x 3.000 100 km
AdBlue® consumption:4 % x 510 liter = 20,4 liter of AdBlue®
6 % x 510 liter = 30,6 liter of AdBlue®
510 Liter Diesel=
9
In 2014, the Euro VI came into effect also for diesel passenger cars. Since then, more and more cars are equipped with SCR technology. Since September 1st 2015 only vehicles which meet the strict requirement of the Euro VI standard may be registered.
By 2018, the VDA estimates the number of vehicles with SCR technology in Germany to about 5,000,000 vehicles; by 2020 about 20,000,000 cars will be equipped with SCR technology in Europe.
The first vehicles with SCR technology had AdBlue® tank sizes of 15-35 liters. For design reasons, the sizes were reduced to 7 to 15 liters.
AdBlue® CONSUMPTION:For a car, the AdBlue® consumption is currently at about 1 liter/1,000 kilometers. Here the consumpti-on rate depends on vehicle weight, the emission le-vel and driving style as well.
Due to even more sophisticated engine technology in the future, the consumption rate of AdBlue® will increase to about 1.5 liter/1,000 km.
A diesel car with an annual mileage of 20,000 kilometers. That corresponds to a yearly AdBlue® consumption of about 20 liters.
An AdBlue® truck system has an average fill rate of 40 liters per minute. Due to smaller tanks and hose diameters for cars, the filling of diesel cars with AdBlue® from the truck column is not feasible.
For economic reasons, it is generally not worthwhile for public service stations to invest in an AdBlue® car pump.
We have the perfect solution for the refueling of cars with SCR technology: the 5 liter bottle with inte- grated fueling hose or the 1 liter membrane bottle. For consumers with higher consumption demands, the practical 5 and 10 liter canisters with a tap are also popular products.

The European emissions legislation requires con- stant reduction of pollutants in the exhaust gas. This also applies to tractors, agricultural machinery, con-struction vehicles, ships, trains and cars driving on closed off properties – such as for example airports.
Especially in agriculture and construction industry, often high dust conditions occur. Here, special care when using AdBlue® should be taken since the intro-
duction of dust particles can lead to fundamental problems in the SCR system.
We provide you with optimal supply concepts for your business – from the analysis of your fleet to the presentation of concrete solutions, we are your partner!

· with some line materials and thus may not come into contact with these pipes, as it can otherwise lead to decomposition processes.
AdBlue® – OTHER TIPS: · If spilled, clean with water immediately. · Avoid all contact with metals. · AdBlue® can attack paints, concrete and other
materials. · Clean the fuel pump system with warm water
after use. · Do not expose to direct sunlight. · Always keep AdBlue® tanks and lids closed tightly. · AdBlue® freezes at -11 °C. Once it’s been frozen,
it can be used again after thawing. · Only buy products with the AdBlue® name. · Never fill AdBlue® tanks with water or other liquids. · No mixing with other liquids.
REFILLING AdBlue® IN YOUR CAR:First things first: You can refill AdBlue® yourself! Re- filling of AdBlue® is very simple and is actually comparable to the refilling of antifreeze for your wind- shield wiper system. Information on filling of AdBlue® are included in the operating manual of your car. Today You can use the practical Hoyer-AdBlue®-refill bottles to pour the product directly into the AdBlue® tank.
When refilling AdBlue®, always ensure the highest cleanliness. When refilling AdBlue® from a storage container, under no circumstances should used die-sel containers, jerry cans or oil cans be utilized. Even the smallest residual amounts of fuels or lubricants damage the SCR catalytic converter. This applies to all vehicles with SCR technology.
IMPORTANT: AdBlue® WILL NOT BE FILLED INTO THE FUEL TANK!
The AdBlue® tank has its own opening. This may be located in the engine compartment, in the trunk or near the fuel tank, depending on the model. If in doubt, please refer to the instruction manual of your vehicle. After the refilling of AdBlue®, you need to turn on the ignition switch, till the onboard computer registered and confirmed the AdBlue® refilling. In some cases, this may take several minutes. After that, restart the engine and the error message will disappear. Of course you can also have AdBlue® refilled in authorized work-shops. However, this is quite costly.
IMPORTANT TIPS FOR HANDLING AdBlue®
AdBlue® WAS FILLED INTO THE DIESEL TANK OR DIESEL WAS FILLED INTO THE AdBlue®-TANK – WHAT TO DO? · On no account should you start the engine! · The vehicle must not be moved! · The product mixture must be immediately
sucked out or let out! · The tank must implicitly be cleaned!
SHOULD THE ENGINE HAVE BEEN STARTED, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: · The catalytic converter is extremely contami-
nated by mineral diesel fuel. Therefore, the functional capability must implicitly be examined by a specialized company.
· The product mixture circulates in the system and can cause serious damage.
· AdBlue® is a urea solution that reacts
