DESCRIPTION
The goal of the Project is to transform a selected urban poor community, which is located on a 3.2 ha site in Payatas, into a sustainable and viable community with greatly improved quality of life. The immediate objective is to support an ongoing pilot effort to implement a complex set of physical, social and economic interventions using an integrated on-site approach. The synergy thus derived from this development model is expected to effectively address the multidimensional nature of the urban poverty typically found in the Payatas or other urban neighborhoods of Manila. The Project has five components: (i) revolving fund for bridge financing; (ii) site development and housing construction improvement fund; (iii) lifelihood and microfinance program fund; (iv) community-based health insurance; and (v) education, training on waste management, and people-to-people exchanges. The Project will target 525 families of which 425 to the Golden Shower Homeownders' Association, Inc. (GSHAI) and 100 are victims of the Payatas garbage-slide tragedy and will be accomodated on the project site.
