LNAF general information
Latvian Army consists of 5052 active duty
soldiers in Land Forces, Naval Forces, Air
Forces + National Guard.
Ādaži range is the main training area. There are
couple local significance firing ranges used by
National guard.
GENERAL
INFORMATION
HISTORY
The first evidence about military activities in the present territory of the training ground refers to 20ties and 30ties of 20th century.
It has been used by the Latvian Army artileryunits from 1937 till 1940. The first name was „Gaujas poligons” (Gauja training- ground), area – 10500ha.
From 1945 till 1953 the training ground was used by the division of Latvian red riflemen of the USSR Army 43rd Guard.
From 1953 till 1963 the training ground was used by units of the 24th tank
division of the USSR Army. From 1969 till1993 the motorized riflemen and
chemical defence battalion of the USSR Army were located in the Ādaži
training ground.
In 1994 the Latvian National Armed forces took over the Ādaži training
ground from the Russian Federation.

INFRASTRUCTURE
Since 1999. 150 buildings in the Firing Range territory situated in the Adazi Region are owned by the Ministry of Defence, and are used for the purpose of state defence.

Ādaži Ttraining area is place, where military activities meet nature protection measures.
There are natrure protection regulations issued by MOD, which are included in ATA SOP and is mandatory for each user of ATA.
