EXPLANATION OF ADAPTATION PROCESS

• Indeed the nature and process of adaptationwhich include both physiological andpsychological aspect of training not yet derivedcompletely. Whenever any sportsman participatein sports training or competition in which musclesof the body are made to contract throughexercises or movement as per the demand of thebody in relation to particular sports. Thiscontinuous act as movement needs more energywhich is produce by carbohydrates, proteins andimmediate requirement of the energycarbohydrates is the main source of energy.

Page 3: Adaptation process

When movement / exercise continue for quitelong period there is decrease in the energysubstance take place. For the fulfillment ofthis energy requirement metabolic processtake place in the body as a result of whichsome compound chemical produce out ofwhich one of the chemical compound isknown as lactic acid. As the physical exerciseare performed comparatively for more time

Page 4: Adaptation process

the amount of lactic acid increase in the musclewhich causes fatigue in the body. If we are able toprovide a correct ratio of recovery during trainingwhich helps to control the quantity of lactic acidin the muscle and gradually one passes throughthe limit of fatigue. In this context it may beunderstood that recovery is directly related withthe result of fatigue.

LOAD AND ADAPTATION

During the sports training and competitionthe load is given in the form of exercises ofmovements as per the demand of the body inrelation to the particular sports or event. Therefore the process of demand createdisturbance in the Psycho- Physiological stateof the human body. To overcome this problemall the structural and functional parts actstogether to regain the normal condition of theorganism.

Page 6: Adaptation process

When the process of loading continue for alonger time specially in days then thestructural and metabolic changes take place inthe human body.

The continuous acts of exercises / movementslead to tolerate the more loads as a result ofwhich adjusting to the external conditions theperformance capacity increases. This waytackling of load is termed as adaptation.

Page 7: Adaptation process

Adaptation :-

Adaptation may be define as the adjustmentof physical and psychological functionalsystem accomplished under the influence ofexternal load, to a higher performancestandard and the adjustment o the specificexternal conditions. The physical andpsychological adaptation is the similar processwhich brings about changes in the functional, biomechanical and structural changes in thehuman body.

LAWS/ RULES/ CONDITION OF ADAPTATION

There is direct relationship between the loadand adaptation. This relationship is governedby certain laws which are called as laws ofadaptation which are explained as under :-

Optimum load leads to better adaptation - Theload should be given as per the capacity of anindividual because if the load is lessadaptation will not start similarly if the load ishigh recovery process is delayed.

Page 9: Adaptation process

1. Correct proportion between load and recovery

Better adaptation always needs themaintenance of correct proportion betweenload and recovery. There should be properrest between training sessions. Due tohetrochronocity the various organs of thebody recover at different pace hencecomplete rest may be provide at the end of aweek.

Page 10: Adaptation process

2. Adaptation is the faster in beginners incomparison to trained sportsman

for the better adaptation in case of beginnersthe load should be given in linear from whereas for trained sportsman it should be given asper the individual capacity.

Page 11: Adaptation process

3. Exposures to new and inhabitable exercises leads to faster adaptation -

If a sportsman expose to new and inhabitablespecific exercises the adaptation process willbe faster among trained sportsman.

Page 12: Adaptation process

4. Specific load leads to specific development

In case of trained sportsman load given in thespecific exercises suitable for the particulargame leads to better adaptation process.

For e.g. If we want to improve the speed ofbasketball players, than the load should begiven in the form of specific exercises with theball.

Page 13: Adaptation process

5. Correct proportion between load tolerance and training load

It is true that if the correct proportionbetween load tolerance and training load ismaintained then the performance willimprove gradually which will leads to betteradaptation process.

Page 14: Adaptation process

6. Adaptation is not permanent through training load

There are various stages of the competitionthe preparation for the competition throughtraining load not lead to stable adaptation ifthe training is stopped the load will adapt atlower level if the training is continue then theadaptation process will also improve.

Page 15: Adaptation process

7. For optimum adaptation maximum load is essential :-

Stable load does not lead to any

improvement in adaptation process

therefore for the optimum level of

adaptation 2-3 times in a year the

maximum load should be given.

Page 16: Adaptation process

8. Adaptation is faster if perfect ratio between intensity and volume is maintained :

For the faster adaptation if the volume is

high intensity should be low similarly if

the intensity is high volume should be

low.

Page 17: Adaptation process

9. Continuity in training and load factor :

• Once /twice load given to a player does not lead

to any kind of adaptation process. Hence training

should continue for so many days and load

should be given regularly as per the capacity of

the sportsman.

Page 18: Adaptation process

10. Adaptation leads in duration which isrequired for the structure of training load :

The adaptation process varies from time

to time as per the requirement and

structure of training load.

Page 19: Adaptation process

11. Variation in training means quickphase of super compensation :

It is very difficult to create the phase of super

compensation at the faster rate but variation

in training means create quick phase of super

compensation.

LOAD AND RECOVERY

• RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LOAD AND RECOVERY

• FACTORS AFFECTING RECOVERY

• Intensity of Load : Sportsman recovers fromintensive load because high intensity causesfaster fatigue but after activity the recoveryprocess is faster.

• Volume of load : Sportsman recovers slow fromvolume load. Because high volume causes slowfatigue but after activity it also makes therecovery process delayed.

Page 21: Adaptation process

• Nature of Load : After training load one need torecover from fatigue. This recovery process isfulfilled by production of energy through ATP-CPsystem and depletion of glycogen. ATP systemcaused faster recovery where as glycogen causeor take long time to recover.

• Health : Recovery process is control by centralnervous system which is influenced by thehormonal interaction. Hence the sound health isthe prime characteristics of faster recovery.

Page 22: Adaptation process

Physical Fitness : A physically fit person recoversfaster in comparison to sedentary person. Basicendurance is important factor and specificendurance may help in faster recovery.

• Nutrition : Balance diet containing all requirednutrients are important for faster recovery, aftertraining meal like carbohydrates sodiumpotassium and vitamins taken into liquid form aregood for quick recovery. Similarly meal taken fivetimes a day in fixed time and good eating habitsare considered to be ideal for faster recovery.

Page 23: Adaptation process

Sleep : 7 -8 hours of sound sleep I establishedfact for recover physiologically butpsychological too.

• Daily Routine : Proper daily routine helps toimprove the recovery process. A set routine ofa sportsman in the form of circular biorhythm, if the process is disturbed than therecovery process is affected adversely.

Page 24: Adaptation process

• Total Load : The sum of load given in a day directlyinfluence the recovery process. If the load is beyondthe capacity of a sportsman than the recovery processis delayed.

• Age : Youngman recover faster in comparison to olderone.

• Sex : Recovery process is slower in female incomparison to male.

• Experience : Experience people recover faster andquicker due to the movement quality of a sportsman.

• Climatic Factors : In colder places sportsman recoversfaster in comparison to hot places.

Page 25: Adaptation process

MEANS OF FASTEER RECOVERY

• Training Methodological Means

• a. Macro Cycle : Generally this is the periodwhich is decided into preparatory, competitionand transitional period. During the transitionalperiod after the hard preparatory andcompetition period, the exercises done at lowpace with medium volume are very mucheffective of load dynamics in a macro cycle helpsto prevent accumulation of fatigue.

Page 26: Adaptation process

• b. Meso Cycle : The Meso cycle have a normalduration of 3 – 6 week after each Meso cycle aweek time is devoted for the recovery process.Again low training load is helpful to achievethe faster recovery. In Meso cycle the use ofgeneral exercises with proper adjustment ofload dynamics is also important for preventionand accumulation fatigue.

Page 27: Adaptation process

• c. Micro Cycle : Since the duration of micro cycleis very short i.e. ,about one week hence in thisperiod the recovery can be ensured by doing thefollowing :

• Training load should not remain constant

• There should be variation in training i.e. strengthtraining.

• During this period one or two training session ofabout 60-90 min should be devoted for activerecovery .

Page 28: Adaptation process

• At the end of micro cycle complete rest should be given.

• d. Training Session

• Warming up

• Sequence of exercise and task

• Rest Pauses

• Cool Down

Page 29: Adaptation process

Nutritional Means

• a. Sportsman is advised to take balance diet

• b. After Training session light digesive drinkscontaining carbohydrates, minerals andvitamins are suggested for faster recovery.

• c. Inculcate the good eating habits in fixedtime.

Page 30: Adaptation process

Physiotherapeutic Means

a. Physiotherapeutic means should be selected

carefully with the consultation of experts.

b. Sona bath should not be used more than

twice a week.

Page 31: Adaptation process

Psychological Means

Psychological means are also helpful foraccelerating the recovery process. Thesemeans should not be used during training orjust after the competition but use ofpsychological means between the trainingsessions or just before the sleep are verymuch useful for sound sleep.

Page 32: Adaptation process

c. Physiotherapeutic means

Physiotherapeutic means should be used in

addition to the training means but these

means should not substitute the training

means.
