e What I recognize first are Orange Trees in Janu-ary, later on Lemon and Palm Trees. In additi-

on I can run around in a sweatshirt, which adds up to a tropical overall feeling. The location of this city, in the back of the Taurus Mountains, makes snow impossible.

Even in wintertime – a sunny city on the Mediter-ranean Sea. What else is there to say?

d „Orangenbäume im Jänner“ ist das Erste das mir auffiel. Später kommen noch Zitronenbäu-

me und Palmen dazu. Das ganze bei Pulloverwar-men Wetter und tropischem Feeling, der ideale Ort um vor dem Winter zu flüchten. Die Lage der Stadt hinter dem Taurusgebirge macht Schnee un-möglich.

Auch im Winter eine sommerliche Stadt am Mit-telmeer – was ist da noch zu sagen?

tr İlk farkına vardığım şey Ocak ayındaki Portakal Ağaçları ve sonrasında Limon ve Palmiye Ağaçları olmuştur. Ayrıca tropik bir hava eşliğinde özetlenecek bir havada uzun kollu t-şirtüm ile koşabiliyorum. Şehrin konumu, Toros Dağlarının arkasında yer aldığı için kar yağma olasılığını çok ama çok aza indiriyor hali ile.

Akdeniz’de yer alan, kış zamanında bile güneşli bir şehirdir bu şehir. Daha başka ne söylenebilir ki?

e Adana is famous for a spe-cial sort of Kebap: obviously

“Adana Kebap“. However, it is also known for various pro-ducts made of sesame seeds, such as Halva and Tahın.

Next, they produce Şalgam here in Adana. This is a drink made of red beets and it’s taste reminds me a bit of salad dres-sing. People drink it with a meal or in combination with Rakı. It might sound pretty weird and also tastes that way, but to be honest, I started to like the homemade Şalgam from Adana’s Mums.

d Die Stadt ist berühmt für ihre spezielle Art Kebap zu-

zubereiten: „Adana Kebap”. Weiters kennt man Adana für all die Süßspeisen aus Sesam, namentlich Halva und Tahın.

Außerdem produzieren sie hier Şalgam: ein Getränk aus roten Rüben, dass mich sehr an Salatdressing erinnert. Ge-trunken wird Şalgam entweder zum Essen oder in Kombinati-on mit Rakı. Es mag zwar sehr merkwürdig klingen und die ersten Male auch ähnlich selt-sam schmecken, aber ich muss gestehen, dass ich dem selbst-gemachten Şalgam hier sogar etwas abgewinnen kann…

tr Adana şehri kendisine has bir kebap çeşidi olan: “Adana Kebap”ı ile meşhur bir şehirdir. Fakat kebabın yanında susamdan yapılan Helva, Tahin gibi çeşitli gıdalar da mevcuttur.

Ek olarak Adana’da yoğun bir biçimde Şalgam üretimi de olmaktadır. Kırmızı havuçtan yapılan ve bana biraz salata sosunu andırır. İnsanlar şalgamı ya yemeğin yanında içerler ya da rakı ile karıştırırlar. Adı kulağa da garip gelen ve tadı da garip olan bu şalgam, dürüst olmak gerekir-se Adana’daki annelerin/teyzelerin yaptığı elyapımı şalgamları sevmeye başlamıştım.

e Adana is criss-crossed by a water canal system, coming

from an artificial lake. It is also close to the Mediterranean Sea and only a one-hour ride away from Mersin and other touristic beaches.

I can highly recommend a Tur-kish breakfast near the seaside, on the way to Mersin…

d Adana ist von einem großen Netzwerk an Wasserka-

nalsystemen durchzogen, wel-che von einem künstlich ange-legten Stausee kommen. Weiters liegt die Stadt nahe am Mittelmeer, nur eine Stunde entfernt von Mersin und ande-ren Stränden.

Türkisches Frühstück an der Küste mit Meeresblick, ist mehr als empfehlenswert…

tr Adana yapay bir göle uzanan su kanalı sistemi çaprazı şeklinde yer alır. Ayrıca Akdeniz’e son derece yakın olup ve Mersin’den ve diğer turistik sahillerden sadece bir saatlik gidiş mesafesinde yer alır.

Mersin yolu üzerinde denize yakın bir yerde Türk kahvaltısını sizlere şiddetle tavsiye ederim.

tArihe In the old part of the town

centre you can find (right next to “Ulu Cami”) a “Mini-Pa-radise”. It is located in an old Islamic school (Medrese) with a wonderful garden.

Palm Trees, Lemon Trees, Ro-ses and Berries; it is hard to be-lieve that it is winter right now.

The biggest mosque of the town impresses with 6 mina-rets (which is unusual, since normally there are only 1, 2, 3 of those). The best place for ta-king pictures is (almost kitschy at sunset) the bridge in front of it. This bridge might also be the oldest, Stonebridge in the world that is still in use.

d Im alten Teil des Stadtzent-rums findet sich ein Minia-

tur-Paradies (gleich neben der „Ulu Cami"). Am Eingang der da-zugehörigen Medrese (alte Is-lamschule) streifen einen Pal-menblätter.

Im Garten gibt es Zitronen-bäumchen und Blumen – un-vorstellbar für mich, dass es Jänner sein soll.

Die größte Moschee der Stadt beeindruckt mit 6 Minaretten (ziemlich ungewöhnlich, denn normalerweise sind es „nur” 1, 2, 3) Der beste Fotoplatz befin-det sich auf der Brücke davor, bei Abenddämmerung! Von ebenjener Steinbrücke wird angenommen, sie sei womög-lich die älteste noch begehbare Brücke der Welt.

tr Şehrin eski bölümünde küçük bir cennet bulabilirsiniz veya karşılaşabilirsiniz. Ulu Cami (en büyük ve böylelikle bulması son derece kolay)’nın hemen yanında muhteşem bahçeli eski bir İslam Okulu (Med-rese) bulunur.

Palmiye Ağaçları, Limon Ağaçları, Güller ve Dutlar; kışın bunların bulunması benim için son derece inanılmaz bir şey.

Bölümün en büyük camisi 6 minaresi (1, 2,3, minarelileri görmek son derece normal iken 6 minarelisini görmek çok da normal değildir) ile etkilemektedirler. Fotoğraf çekmek için en uygun yer (günbatımında son derece garip olan) köprünün önüdür. Bu köprü dünyadaki en eski taş köprülerinden biridir.

tArSuSe Not far away from Adana is

the historically important city of Tarsus. The “Cleopatra Gate” and the “Paul’s Church” (devoted to the apostle Paul) have made Tarsus popular.

It is an ancient settlement that once stood under the reigns of Babylonians, Assurans and Per-sians. Today it is full of historical sights like Hamams, churches and mosques.

d Unmittelbar in der Nähe von Adana liegt die historische

Stadt Tarsus. Das „Kleopatra Tor“ und die „Pauluskirche“ (eine dem Apostel Paulus ge-weihte Kirche) machten Tarsus berühmt.

Es ist eine uralte Siedlung, wel-che einst unter der Herrschaft von Babyloniern, Assyrern und Persern stand. Heute ist sie vol-ler historisch wichtiger Gebäu-de wie Hamams, Kirchen und Moscheen.

tr Adana’dan çok uzakta olmayan önemli bir tarihsel şehirdir Tarsus. Kleopatra Kapısı ve Paul’un Kilisesi (Havari Paul’a adanmıştır.) Tarsus’u önemli kılmaktadır.

Babiller, Asurlular ve Perslerin hükümranlığı altında antik bir yerleşme olmuştur. Bugün hamamları, kiliseleri ve camileri ile birlikte son derece önemli bir ören yeridir.

very spontaneously in Adana and even brought me to her family's place where we spent a lovely weekend. With the com-panionship of Yaşar and Rocio they showed me the city and the towns Tarsus and Mersin.

From Orange Trees to Rakı with Şalgam and breakfast at the seaside, as well as a trip though a cave and my first camel in Turkey – it was only possible be-cause of you.

d Spontan nahm mich Özge Yılmaztürk in Adana auf und

brachte mich sogar zum Haus ihrer liebenswerten Familie. Ge-meinsam mit Rocio und Yaşer zeigte sie mir die Stadt sowie Tarsus und Mersin.

Von Orangenbäumen über Rakı mit Şalgam bis hin zu Frühstück mit Meeresblick und Höhlen-spaziergängen, habe ich alles ihnen zu verdanken.

Ganz großes Dankeschön an euch, ehlich, ich kann es gar nicht in Worte fassen!

tr Özge Yılmaztürk beni Adana'da önceden hazırlık yapmadan ağırladı ve harika bir haftasonu geçirdiğimiz ailesinin yerine götürdü. Yaşar ve Rocio'nun eşliğinde Mersin'i ve Tarsus'u gezdik.

Portakal ağaçları, rakı ve şalgam, deniz kenarında kahvaltı keyfini yanı sıra mağara turu ve Türkiye'de ilk deveye binişim..bunlar sadece senin sayende mümkün olabildi. Gerçekten ne kadar teşekkür etsem, kelime-ler yetersiz kalır.
