When I watch my son playing video games, he has a certain amount of “lives” available. If things go haywire, he can take advantage of another life, or maybe just start the game over. In real life, we only have one life to live. Even so, sometimes we feel like we need a “do over.” The good news is that we serve a God of second chances. That’s a wonderful thing, because we have all missed the mark! (Romans 3:23) Yet, God offers us an opportunity for a “do over.” Not only will he FORGIVE us, but he will also RENEW us! In Romans 12:2, the Apostle Paul encourages us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Now, how exactly do we go about renewing our minds? This is not some kind of self-help program! No, it’s actually more about letting go of self and allowing the Holy Spirit to work in us. That’s where Peniel can play a role. We offer an opportunity to come away from a hassled and hurried world and take some time for renewal. There are plenty of good reasons to come to Peniel—great fellowship, food, fun activities, excellent music, and the joy of long summer evenings. But, there is nothing more important than the renewal offered by God! No matter what our stage of life, and no matter where we are in a walk of faith, God has a desire to share more of Himself with us. But, it is up to us to decide if we are going to accept his offer. God will not impose himself on us. That’s what Peniel is all about; creating opportunities for people to spend some quality “face-to-face” time with God so we can become more like Him. That is why we’ve been coming to Peniel for 124 years now. I invite you to join me in seeking a personal renewal this year. I’m asking God to change me and renew my mind! He can do that for all of us! Lori, DJ, Courtney, Josh and I will sure look forward to seeing you at Peniel this year!
