My Beloved Children,

I wish you all a very joyful Coptic New Year celebrating the lives of our precious

martyrs whose bloodshed remains as a powerful testimony to our Orthodox

Christian faith. Martyr means witness, and there are seven forms of witnessing to

our faith. These include by word, action, prayer, fellowship, endurance, service,

and martyrdom. Share with everyone the word of salvation. Let our actions and

behaviors be a witness to Christian virtues so that others may clearly see the light

of Christ shining through us. Pray for others that the Holy Spirit will pierce the

hearts of non-believers. Pray for them and those who have drifted from the truth.

Strengthen fellowship with one another, especially in the church (1 Corinthians

14:24-25). Be different. Let love bond us together, sharing meals in the spirit of

simplicity. Be of the same spirit and mind (Philippians 2:2). Serve one another in

the spirit of love. That is Christianity—serving and helping others, “among whom

you shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:15). Be like the good Samaritan

(Luke 10:25-37). “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a

drink” (Romans 12:20; Proverbs 25:21). Endure persecution with patience. “By your

patience possess your souls” (Luke 21:19). Finally, be prepared to witness even

unto the shedding of one’s blood like our martyrs. The Lord’s disciples and apos-

tles did not possess much in material resources, but they had a fiery zeal to wit-

Thanks be to God for another quarter of blessings in helping our brethren in need.

2018 Resurrection Project (13 different poor areas in Egypt) $86,243.00 was

spent.

4,383 sets of new clothes for children

7,925 kilos of meat

2,030 chickens

2,625 families received grocery items (butter, sugar, rice, cheese, tea, oil, and mac-

aroni)

1,650 food bags distributed

100 sets of bed sheets for widows

Bathrooms/toilets – H.O.P.E. provided the funds to build 33 bathrooms in a very poor village in Samalout.

Each bathroom costs the equivalent of $171 USD.

Needy marriages – 16 needy marriages in Deriout were each helped with a washer and refrigerator. Each set

was $256 USD.

Widows Program – Through the social service program under H.H. Pope Tawadrous, H.O.P.E. was able to help

support a group of 85 widows with $5,000 USD for another quarter.

Farmers Support – H.O.P.E was able to help support 20 needy farmers and their families to help them in their

day-to-day needs and with food for the Resurrection Feast.

Summer Trips – Generous donors funded the annual summer trips for 25 orphan girls and 40 handicapped

children from Meet Ghmr. These trips and activities greatly improve the well being of the individuals, thank

God!

Security Project – H.O.P.E. initiated and fully supported the first phase of a security project in Egypt carried out

by the Security Committee of the Papal Office. By the grace of God, the Southern Diocese contributed

$181,716.00 to purchase 56 walk through metal detectors and 202 hand held metal detectors/scanners that

were distributed to numerous churches in Egypt as an effort to combat terrorism.
