Acts of Kindness Throughout KS3 this week, in Literacy, with Miss Eastick and Miss Wells, we have explored 'kindness'. We are currently reading the book 'Wonder' written by R.J. Palacio. This book explores how one small act of kindness can make a huge difference to someone's life. Why would anyone want to blend in when they were born to stand out!? We decided to take action and carry out a random act of kindness for our local community. After a manic half term we decided to help keep the local park clean and tidy and go out and litter pick and make sure it is kept a great safe place for everyone to go and enjoy with friends and family alike. Research shows that helping others can be beneficial to our own mental health. It can reduce stress, improve our emotional well-being and even benefit our physical health. This was the first of many of our acts of kindness, as we plan to make other people keep on smiling too, as it costs nothing to be nice! Later that day we stuck random notes of encouragement all around the school and delivered kindness flowers with words of praise for staff members. Watch this space for what we do next and remember in a world where you can be anything...be kind. Lower Site Visit the Knife Angel Key stage 3 visited the famous Knife Angel sculpture 11th February 2020. The Knife Angel is a 27ſt sculpture craſted out of 100,000 knives that have been surrendered to police forces across the country. It is also known as the Naonal Monument against violence and aggression. Alongside seeing the sculpture, we were kindly given the opportunity to meet Alison Madgin, who presented a beauful presentaon about her 18-year-old daughter Samantha, who was sadly stabbed to death in 2007. In the legacy of her daughter, Alisons created a campaign called Samanthas legacywhich is an organisaon to help tackle knife crime and support families. She hopes her campaign will help steer the next generaon in Newcastle away from violence. Key stage 3 visited the famous

Knife Angel sculpture 11th

Angel is a 27ft sculpture

Alongside seeing the sculpture, we were kindly given

the opportunity to meet Alison Madgin, who presented

a beautiful presentation about her 18-year-old daughter

the legacy of her daughter, Alison’s created a campaign

called ‘Samantha’s legacy’

which is an organisation to

Because we believe in being 'Kind Calm and Honest' at Trinity Academy, this term Group 5 have been learning a lot about how to be kind to others. During one of our Art lessons, we began by giving each other compliments. It made us all feel so fantastic to hear the amazingly kind and honest things people had to say about us. We used these comments to create self-portraits to express ourselves.

Kind Calm and Honest Inside Out | Mental Health

In Group 4, our topic this term is Inside Out; Mental Health. We learned all about the Zones of regulation and incorporated this into a game of Twister.

For every colour, we had to mention something from that zone of regulation. E.g. If we landed on blue, we had to say a time that we felt bored. We then had to give a solution; something that we did to get into the “green zone”. All learners thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted to continue to play after the lesson had finished! We had to do a cool down as we all felt that we had been using muscles we didn’t even know we had!

Spring Newsletter 2020

Trinity Lower Site Library

Our school library has had a ‘mini makeover’ and opened for the learners and staff to use in January 2020. We have a small team of learner librarians who look af-ter the library and help staff and learners locate specific books.

The lovely soft sofas and cushions make the library an oasis of calm and tranquillity where learners can go to enjoy reading a book, complete class work or work in small groups to complete research or topic work. The learner’s really enjoy going to the library as a class and having stories read to them.

Learner voice has been an important factor in how the library is used and following their suggestions; we will soon be holding meditation, yoga and relaxation sessions in here. Another request from our librarians was for some librarian badges, these also will be arriving soon.

An important job for our librarians is to help teaching staff source ‘topic boxes’. These comprise of a variety of books both fiction and non-fiction which are linked to the specific topic being taught. They also work on a rota basis to ensure the library looks as amazing as it did the first day it was open. I must say it looks fantastic and I am really proud of the hard work our librarians do to keep it this way.

Please feel free to ask one of our librarians to show you around our library next time you visit school.

Geology Rocks

This term group 1 have been learning about different types of rock. They have been drawing various images of volcano's and labelling the types of rock such as; metamorphic, Sedimentary and Igneous. Group 1 plan on inspecting and experimenting on different types of rocks. They will learn what different types of rock are used for and what they look and feel like. The whole group have thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to learning more about Geology.
