And what happened when Saul became Paul? Prior to the Damascus road Saul used the methods of F/F/C and had no qualms doing so because his picture of God was completely in harmony with this methods. After the Damascus road, PAUL talked mainly about love and freedom. What changed for Paul was not the externals: he still read his OT, he didn't change his day of worship, he still went to synagogue, and right on down the list. What changed for Paul was his picture of the kind of Person God is in character. He now believed God to be precisely like Jesus. God doesn't beat up his enemies, he washes their feet and forgives them as he dies. And now he read his Bible in a different way; he looked at the law in a different way and saw that all God really was asking was that we love one another. But fundamentally, every change for Paul was based on a different picture of God.
