Horseback Riding at Hacienda Aventura The horseback riding tour offers a more intimate view of the landscape and the lush mountains of Guanacaste. During the tour guests have the chance to view monkeys, iguanas, tropical birds, and other wildlife up close.

Guests ride with a guide through the pastures and mountain trails up to a lookout peak, where they have a beautiful view of the area and the Pacific Ocean. Mountain Bike Tour The “Pura Aventura” Mountain Bike tour is ideal for people in need of a challenge for half a day. We have a variety of bike trails that travel through a 1,400-acre farm into the gorgeous mountains that are sure to provide a great work out and make you be in contact with nature. On the bike tour you will splash through creeks and have the opportunity to view native plants and wildlife. Guaitil Pottery Outside the busy town of Santa Cruz, there is a very small and unique establishment that sells beautiful pottery the same way the pre-Columbian Chorotega Indians created their goods. Hand wrought pots, jars, dishes, and urns painted with natural earth-based pigments before being fired in a stone kilns and polished with natural glaze. Your guide will take you around and explain the history of Costa Rica’s native Indians and their traditions, as well as their culture. You will notice how the traditions and culture of the native Indians is still exercised today. Art and souvenirs are available for purchase.

Shopping & Walking in Tamarindo On the way to Tamarindo Village, the closest town to The JW Marriott, the route passes through small villages, cattle farmlands and awesome views of the close mountain range covered with tropical dry forest. During the journey your destination expert will brief you on important local information. Later at the Downtown Boulevard participants will visit several arts & crafts stores, art galleries and some local designer stores that sell beautiful and the most authentic batik and tied dye beach clothes produced locally. ATV – Mountain Tour This mountain tour is considered one of the most exciting trips across the dry forest of Guanacaste region. The ride will take you by little local villages where you can learn about the rural life and find new sights. This is a good opportunity to spot the wildlife and be in contact with nature. Palo Verde National Park (Half Day) Located near the quaint village of Filadelfia, Palo Verde National Park forms part of the Tempisque River basin. It protects very important habitats of the tropical dry forest and is home to many species of mammals, birds, amphibians and wildlife. As you cruise up river, you can spot a fabulous array of wild birds and various creatures, such as howler monkeys, green iguanas and coatis. The park is a bird watcher’s paradise, and provides shelter for a great diversity of bird species. The boat ride at the Tempisque River is where our naturalist guide will point out birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals that make their home at one of Costa Rica’s largest crocodile sanctuaries.

Jungle Boat Safari at Palo Verde National Park & Hacienda El Viejo.

Palo Verde National Park is set on the Tempisque River basin. It provides shelter for a great variety of bird species. The boat ride on the Tempisque River is one of the best bird watching tours in the country. As you cruise along the river, you will spot a fabulous array of wild birds and a myriad of creatures, such as howler monkeys, green iguanas and coatis. The park comprises 14,100 acres of tropical dry forest, protecting a wide variety of wildlife, lakes, grasslands, and woodlands. It’s a bird watcher’s paradise!

For lunch, you will then be taken to an early 1900’s historic landmark and Hacienda, named El Viejo. Surrounded by sugar cane plantations in the town of Filadelfia, you will enjoy a very traditional and delicious meal.

Rincon de la Vieja National Park

Enjoy an exciting day of hiking through the bountiful Rincon de La Vieja National Park with an experienced naturalist guide. During this nature hike you will be neighboring the main entrance of the most visited Rincon de la Vieja Volcano section “Las Pailas”. During the hike witness hot boiling mud fumaroles, steaming rivers, and mini craters. The trekking will take you through virgin cloud forests, and small waterfalls. The hike may be challenging. We offer shorter hikes within the park that includes visits to waterfalls and mud fumaroles. Lunch will be served at the “Cañon de La Vieja” Restaurant.

Corobicí River Floating (Class I & II) The gorgeous, soft flowing Tenorio River, a tributary to the Corobicí River, is perfect for people of all ages! Bird watchers will enjoy the lush vegetation of the tropical forest along its banks. Howler and white-faced monkeys, coatis, iguanas may be easily spotted. Buena Vista Eco tour (4 in 1) At the base of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, Hacienda Buena Vista is a charming family ranch comprising of 4,000 acres, with 60% of the land covered with primary forest. Colorado Canyon Zip line Adventure & River Tubing The zip line adventure tour is an adventure like no other. You will experience great heights and thrills as you fly over the canyon of the Colorado River. After some instruction you will zip line from platform to platform on steel cables feeling the adrenaline as you take in the panoramic views of the forest, the canyon and the nature surrounding you. You will also walk across a hanging bridge and fly over the trees. The zip line provides 9 lines and 14 platforms crossing 8 times the Colorado Canyon with a total length of 3630 feet. Once the zip line tour is over, all participants will descend the class I and II rapids of the Rio Colorado Canyon. Each person will be provided with a life jacket and helmet.

Zip line Adventure & Colorado Canyon River Kayaking The zip line adventure tour is an adventure like no other. Participants will experience great heights and thrills as they fly over the canyon of the Colorado River. After some instruction you will zip line from platform to platform on steel cables feeling the adrenaline as you take in the panoramic views of the forest, the canyon and the nature surrounding you. You will also walk across a hanging bridge and fly over the trees. The zip line provides 9 lines and 14 platforms crossing 8 times the Colorado Canyon with a total length of 3630 feet. Once the zip line tour is over, all participants will descend the class I and II rapids at Rio Colorado using a special type of soft kayak called ducky, a modified type of 2-person inflatable kayak. Borinquen Zip Line & Ecotur Located on the slopes of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, Borinquen is a charming cattle hacienda that combines working lands and primary forest. It offers many adventures to enjoy the great views of the Guanacaste´s low lands, Pacific coastline and the Volcano. Borinquen is the perfect place for nature and adventure lovers. Its main attractions are the horseback riding, the slot canyon zip line canopy tour, the thermal waters, steam bath, natural spa, and acres of virgin forest and the Mystery Waterfall. This tour is a full-day adventure, beginning with an energizing horseback riding through the farm and primary forest. You will arrive to the first Zip Line platform where you can fly through the jungle, equipped with a harness and accompanied by a naturalist guide while zigzagging an impressive canyon. After an authentic Guanacastecan lunch prepared by the local cocineras, participants will relax at the mud bath, the natural sauna, relaxing spa and thermal waters.
