The organisationThe International Hydropower Association (IHA), formed under the auspices of UNESCO in 1995, is a global non-profit organisation advancing hydropower's role in meeting the world's water and energy needs by:- championing continuous improvement and sustainable practices;- building consensus through strong partnerships with other stakeholders; and- driving initiatives to increase the contribution of renewable energy, especially hydropower.

IHA work contributes to addressing sustainability concerns over water and energy, including the problems of climate change. IHA has consultative/observer status with the various United Nations programmes and international agencies working in these areas. This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated professional to contribute to the core mission of the Association, advancing sustainable hydropower. The Sustainability Specialist will play a key role in developing, advancing and implementing an array of pathways for the Association's sustainability initiatives, building on the work of the IHA-led Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Forum (HSAF).

The Sustainability Specialist will closely work with the IHA Executive Director and Programme Director, and will often collaborate with the Association's Business Director, Policy Analyst, and Communications Officer.

The Sustainability Specialist will:Assist in the development of implementation pathways for the Protocol;- Drive, under the direction of IHA management, the next phase of the Protocol including field applications, development of training materials, training, and knowledge management;- Develop and implement a strategy on capacity building on hydropower sustainability;

- Be involved in working towards standard development and a verification system;- Re-launch the IHA Blue Planet Prize;- Be involved in negotiations with and reporting to partners and donors for all sustainability related activities;- Contribute to IHA's policy work and communications strategy by covering sustainability related areas, including delivering IHA's input into relevant policy processes, events and documents; contributing to IHA reports and briefing documents; and coordinating internal and external events and strategic meetings.

Director, Capacity Development

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supports 166 countries around the globe to eradicate poverty.

As the United Nation's preeminent development agency, UNDP is seeking applications from highly qualified candidates for the senior position of Director, Capacity Development, based in New York.

The Director will be responsible for leading UNDP's global engagement and advocacy on capacity development, while integrating theory and field evidence into practical applications for transformational change of institutions.

With capacity development being a fundamental element to ensure that progress is both sustainable and nationally owned, the Director will ensure effective integration of capacity development throughout UNDP's work with particular focus on the Millennium Development Goals and Climate Change.

The Director of the Capacity Development Group is expected to manage a team of innovative policy experts in New York and six regional centres.
